but why not
i still intend on turning upto a event one day on 205 road tyres just for the hell of it
Thats what we have used to set out with in the past "Road pattern too", we do remove the rear towing plow of the RR first though
-
ahh, i woundered what they were for
in truth, the drops wernt steep at all at rd5
(( We all know the drops ant that steep! must be the hard water! that stopped u too quick ))
-
Both he's in the passenger seat of my motor.
Not for long if carry on with the stunt show
-
I keep looking and thinking about it
You'll be ok, the drops an't so steep as the lrs r5 so u should be able to use ur headlights for seeing with not balancing on

When I spoke to sportident, they said all the data is kept on the etag on the car, details are downloaded from the etag at the finish station, and if required a printed receipt of all points visited can be produced for the competitor there and then in seconds. you then download the finish station to the laptop once everyone is back in.All the results are completed in record time and with little human input. But you would need sportident software etc all chargeable and the right bits of there kit to achieve it.
So what is the cost of "borrowing" all this clever stuff

Well it's just two weeks to the final round of the XTC series and entry list looks like this...
Where has all the interest gone
Maybe the competitors who expressed an interest could shed some light.
It would be a shame to loose an event series if it was just a matter of work / vehicle prep ect and not enough time to do it in. Or is it just a non starter from the offset .
Yep, not one single entry
So unless anyone expresses any interest during the course of the next week, I won't bother wasting any more of my time by going to recce the site and that will be the end of that!
Full details and online entry are available HERE

i work with the sport ident system a lot on adventure races, mountain marathons and orienteering events and can vouch for their durability. they are incredibly durable considering the abuse they get (rain, cold, ice, snow, mud, grit etc). a good example comes from a year ago when they were used on a kayaking section of a race. they were put out at low tide and our estimations of high tide were slightly off the mark, they were left submerged in salt water for over an hour and all survived fine. they can also be locked on with a cable through the hole where the tag is inserted to be 'punched' making it impossible to be moved. i have a friend who rents the whole kit out when they're not being used for events in order to cover the cost as they're not cheap as you say. if anyones interested in 'trialling' them for an event he can courier them with instructions etc. PM me if you fancy a go on them.
matt
So i take it the LOG INFO is on the course, and the truck just has a key, if so do u have to go and colect in the data from the course at the end of the day??
-
Well they have to be tougher than the plastic punches used atm! They definatley loose when caught up in a fight with a landy and an oak tree
Don,t get me wrong, i like the plastic pin punches, there simple to use, and pritty cheep too, but after 60 odd events there getting tired, blunt, and some are braking very easily. + the score cards are a pig to read when full of mud, its not too bad being an official at the end ot the day addind them up as my 10 yr old washes them with a sponge in a bucket of water for us, but its the competitor side that has a hard time seeing where the numbers are let alone the little pin holes. Also they can be a Bitch to find to colect in!!!

Thanks,i may just have a borrow soon, just to see how they perform. I have been looking into this and have come up with a custom built system, totally waterproof "100 mtrs", metal and electric don't afect it, 20 yr memory, bluetooth unload / reload and a mental temp range, and apparently a ""indistructable"" casing ?? u just goto get it within about 5cm of the tag.
No plugs to get muddy, no barcodes to scan, and at a resonable cost too. sounds too god to be true don't it! Im taking the robustness boast as a challenge, i think a 2 tonn landy and a big old oak tree with the thing squashed between may be a bit much!! Any body got any thoughts??

at the time the offer was f.o.c
penny dropped an hour later, wire had ripped off the crank sensor
was impressive though....you got to admit
now all paid up for round 6......and so is boothy and saley is making an appearence
should be a laugh
ohhhhhh news flash aswel.....i shed some light on simon ****ty running td5....its now sweet as a nut apparently when he rang me tonight to let me no i was right
damn td5 crank sensors , can anyone see a trend ??
dan, team 42
Cool it will make a change to see Simons truck comming back muddy under its own power, "bless"

Does anyboady no if new teams that have entered will get a doorcard sticker thing ? As ill have to make room
Yep free stickers , just stick em over a dent or summett ,
-
possably, ill get back to you tomorrow.
if i havent got one i can get one easily
dan
Team 14 down to one fuel tank, and it works , engine runs, exhaust fabricated and works too .
-
well you sound in the same boat as me,
ive only got a roll cage that is tacked together
my fuel tank is currently a bucket hanging from the steering wheel whilst my new one is made
all 3 winches are in bits
no cooling what so ever
sump is still off the auto box
no oil cooler to the auto box
no interior or dash
on the plus point i sorted the lockers out today and got the wings bolted and welded back on
does that class as progress
dan
Ur a head of us, we only got 1 x wing ,but we do currently have 2 x fuel tanks, one nice custom one we can fill "but cant empty as no fuel pump" , one huge standard one thats attached to bits of rear chassis that we dont want but has a fuelpump in it and some fuel . At least we can steer without spilling our fuel
-
LRS Team 14, Nowhere near ready, fueltank relocation, rollcage instalation, winch upgraid, chassis mods, new wings & arches, wiring and station wagon to pickup cab, all started, nowhere near finished O and the driver has left the country

the hole thing seems very gray if you know what i mean. think there are some loop holes mind
Unfortunatly the loopholes seem to be in favour of the MSA, "ITS YOUR RESPONSABILITY" which dose beg the question, will they stand by challenge in the event of a accident or claim
-
i thought that was a flaw in the design lol. sounds like were going to need a load of test certificates to do a challenge now
Maybe, maybe not I Stumbled accross a MSA Man over the weekend, had a little chat

Put a circular fairlead in the top of the cage, and a normal (but slightly widened) one at the back of the car. Add a vertical drop-in pin somewhere in line with this rear fairlead (mental strong like). Then take the rope back from the winch, round a snatch block (retained by the pin) and back to the centre of the truck (probably through another snatch block here) then up to the top fairlead and then terminate in a hook as normal.
If you want to winch backwards, remove the pin and extract the snatch block, which will unwind the winch, then take the snatch block out to your anchor point. To winch 'up' or sideways, leave the pin in and just extract the rope from the top as normal. Bob's you're uncle.
Obvious drawbacks, pulling in reverse would be double-line and therefore slower, and your rope won't go as far. Plus the rope would have to be within some kind of conduit probably, to protect it under the tub floor.
Or just have two winches and keep it simple, I dunno!
How about rotating the winch slightly , or putting a rollerfairlead / guid on the front ot it, and running the cable through this first

entry forms in the post, see you guys at holymoorside.
be gentle with me for my first lrs event
dan
-
ill get on the phone tomorrow to see if theres any space left for a little one
so i take it you measure the tyres side to side ?
dan
Depends on which way up you park them, Chillax man, ur biggest problem will be squeesing past simon's truck, as his TD5 seems to be developing a liking for stopping right in the way just as we start
-
has any one competed with 37" boggers yet as mine measure up at a smidge under 36 inch tall, however there sidewall size is bigger.
would i be able to compete as id like to come along to holymoorside as its a right s*** hole but i love it
oh need motivation to get the landy built back up aswel
dan
We have a guage, so if we can squeze it over ur tyre then bingo, ur in.
Bigger problem for u may be the entry space shortage, u need to ask the loverly Heather "lrs entries on the lrs web" if we have a space Say pritty please Failing that try for round 6. Its going to be awsom, we have left the best till last

Having ready the proposed new MSA rules
58.2.4. All vehicles must be fitted with a circuit
breaker which isolates the battery from all
electrical circuits, which simultaneously stops
the engine and which is operable by the driver
whilst correctly seated. K.8 recommended
And section K8 of current blue book says nothing about current rating or method of isolation.
I'm no MSA scrutineer but as long as your winch does not when then main isolator is off then you should be ok (so make sure the solenoids are powered via the main isolator not any additional isolator)
This is the way Boothy and myself do it.
Note that I don't think that factory standard Warn or Superwinches (and possibly others) will comply as they usually take the solenoid power from the main winch power cable but that can easily be fixed.
My understanding of a cut out switch is that it kills ALL POWER AT THAT SINGLE POINT!!!, The MSA don't have to bother with the niggly issues of how this is achieved, nor the fact that there may or may not be a switch suitable, thats the competitors problem, remember its up to the competitor to prove his truck complies!!! not the scrutaneer to prove it dose!! so if mr scrutaneer pops around ur truck with a volt meter, as ive seen in the past, checking for voltage at alternators, coils, starters, ect and he pops it on a winch solinoid, and it stays live, u dont comply!!!so u don't play!. Like i said it's ur responcability as a competitor to comply, so basicly its ur fault u fitted a winch which pulls too much power for a switch "u fitted" and it melts / fails!! . Remember the MSA are basicly"""insurance"", and if u want to be covered by there insurance, u have to play by there rules!!!
