285/75x16 (33") bfg muds (km2) on 16x8 modular rims with standard height suspension they rubbed the rear at full articulation now sorted with a 2" lift they sit inline with the arches. If they were on land rover offset (though lr wheels aren't wide enough) they would be inside the arch but you would loose steering lock and the stops need adjusting to stop rubbing on radius arms.

  2. I've got 285/75r16 BFG MT2's on 8x16 modulars on my 90. They just stay within the arches. They're 32.8" high and 11.22" wide, in theory. The offset on the wheels still gives a decent steering lock.

This is about the widest you can go without wider arches or reduced steering lock. You could get 35/11.50x 16 under the arches but then you run into gearing issues.

  3. To answer the question yes 235/85x16 are fine with a 2" lift provided your on stock offset rims you may get a little rub at full articulation (cured with longer bump stops). As to tyres it's all about what you want to do/like bfg at and the old pattern muds (km1) will last forever and are very good for their respective jobs km2 muds are quiter I think better off road but wear quicker still quite long lasting though.

  4. Kit is purely based on how hard you want to play and whether you play in a group or on your own (we recommend two+). gps is handy if you've never been before or want to go to set positions. A cb is useful but you can live with a phone (you might have to walk for a signal) but No1 must have is a camera for lots and lots of pictures.

P.S. waterproofs and boots it is Wales afterall.

  5. I've been 15 odd times I'm still finding new tracks and never get bored of it you can take anything from brand new to full challenge and both will have just as much fun. I set a photo challenge out for fun some you could do in a mini some you'll need 3 winches take your choice.

  6. Interestingly I have a slightly different slant. I've got to a point on the ibex where it's not going to be finished for a planned trip no matter what I do so I've got a fairly quick project to do as a change of scenery for a while.

The other thing that can work is put it up for sale at a sensible price. If it sells fine if it doesn't your stuck with it so you best get it finished.

  7. Por15 but oddly you will need to let it get a little rusty first or key it really heavily because it doesn't stick to shiney. I did 45's chassis (it had surface rust only) 6 years ago and it could do with re-painting now which I think is pretty good.

  8. that seems rather odd! i would have thought LR special vehicles would have mounted a cage to the chassis.

First way more work to mount to the chassis properly. They were only interested in the occupants not getting dead, longevity was never a concern as they didn't expect anyone to own one after the event.

  9. I love camel vehicles but would never buy one (unless a lottery win came my way) several friends own them and have nothing but trouble. If orginal they have so many hidden problems it's frightening, if rebuilt there's either nothing original left (because it was knackerd) or there so overloaded everything just wears 5 times faster than it should. I did once have a full spec of mods made to 200tdi discos it was a surprisingly short list most the mods were bolt on. Like I said I'd love one but never buy one besides the wife hates the colour don't know what she means baby poo is a fine colour.

  10. I think I get it your saying nick someone's ref tween to suit us then tell non mot trucks these are the regs comply or rick being chucked off site. That way we only need to scrutineer if we feel someone is taking the riddle.

I like that idea (if I've got you right).

    Mike

  11. Once again thank you all for comment on this the whole reason I posted on here was to see if we were missing something or if it really was a case of "yes it has got an MOT" or can we scrutineer that for you.

Some great points have been raised and we as a committee will now look at our options and see what we can come up with. I like the idea of srutineering but I think we need to be careful as to what qualifies someone to do it and who we have that is qualified/can be trained, willing and able to get to all our events.

  12. Last time we looked msa direction I think you needed something like 10 people to run an event. Of late we have around 25 members turn up and 6 marshals (most are committee members) we simply can not afford to run an event with more marshals unless we get more members turn up. But as you point out and this was our impression msa dosen't fit our events.

  13. It's very difficult to run a pay and play day under blue book rules it gets classed as iirc an experience type day or something similar. We have looked into msa but our events don't comply as we're non competitive plus we don't have anywhere near enough people to fill the official roles required.

    Mike

  14. I think we run well organized and controlled events (i would being chief marshal) site speed limit is 15mph and the events are pay and play style so no more commitment than the driver is willing to make. I am hot on speed and seatbelts, people have been turned away because of their truck and evicted from site due to dangerous driving/not listening to marshals.
