  1. Hi All,

As my Td5 is a non started I feel the pump has seen better days, are there any diy on the driveway type tests that I can try...?

    cheers

    Dave..

hi,take the feed pipe off the pump and turn engine with key it should pump fuel out if not could be fault with pump, i think that's how you check it, defender dinky

  2. Do you really need anti-roll bars? They will reduce body roll if you want a more comfortable drive if you do predominantley on-road miles. However, they will kill your axle articulation if you use your vehicle off-road.

I think most people tend to leave them off, to get the best of both worlds.

hi yes i thought about it after i posted it, i will leave it thanks for reply, ;) defender dinky

  3. hi yes you you do need road wheels off and then test it, and just do it to which ever side your working on.

hi,muddy4x4xfar, i have seen something on here somewhere how to test your swivel ball pre loads and i think they used fisherman scale's is that possible if so what would be the correct pressure for the preload, axles are off the motor at the moment complete as i am rebuilding my defender 90, cheer's defender dinky

  4. Just in case, you adjust the preload by changing the shims under the top swivel pin. Taking shims out increases the preload. Look in the Tech Archive if there is more information there.

    Good Luck

hi dave, there was one shim under each side so i put them back as they were, first time for me i'm afraid, :( thanks for reply defender dinky

  5. stick a spring balance on where the track rod joins to the swivel housing. keeping it horizontal and floating. pull the swivel housing unit using the spring balance . it should measure 3 on the spring balance but if its a new seal they sometimes measure just over . thats cause it needs to bed in.

hi, do i jack the corners up and remove wheels on both sides, thanks for your reply, defender dinky

  6. hi i`ve got a 1991 defender with a shot engine which is the 200tdi i was going too replace with the disco 200tdi will it fit straight in with all the defender turbo and down pipes??? also will the bellhouse be the same???

hi,just done conversion i changed evreything engine, gearbox, and tranferbox, the gear lavers sit further back though slightly into seat box, there's a very good thread in archive, :) defender dinky

  7. hi all, just wondering is there any difference between brake disc's front and rear of defender as regards of depth of dish, and can you fit disc's off a defender onto a discovery, only tried it today and found disc off def front went on abit to far on discovery rear and was catching the caliper mount  defender dinky

  8. hi all, now defender 90 1987 is stripped down waiting for galvanizing, decided to strip swivel balls down as seals were leaking followed archive for disco swivel seals, but i only have one bearing in each ball at the top is this normal for defender 90 cheer's defender dinky

Ladies and Gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to thank Mr Retroanaconda for his kind hosting of the files, a major company for providing the means to scan the files, and to present the link to the files: without further ado:

  11. hi all, stripped defender 90 down to chassis ready for sandblast & galvanizing, now, thinking about changing suspension and bushes all the way through, which springs&shocks would be best for me 75% road use 25% off road, at the moment i have standard but it looks as if it's got a lift on it, also what bushes do i need looked on fleabay seen all different colours but which ones would suit my defender 90 1987, note i'm not loaded kids had it all for crimbo ;);) cheer's defender dinky

  12. hi all, just wondering if theres a diagram for body mounts to chassis, anywhere for defender 90 as i am hoping to start taking body off tomorrow right down to chassis and everything else, going to have chassis sandblasted and galvanized ;) :)cheer's defender dinky

  13. I've recently bought a 2001 Discovery TD5 Auto ES and after reading lots here & elsewhere am considering having it remapped to stage 1 (probably by IRB Developments - if I can get Ian to answer my emails......).

But I'm a bit concerned about long term reliability as I want to keep the car for at least 5 years or so. Has anybody here got good experience of several 10s of thousands of miles after a remap?

hi,sorry to but in, is this remapping exspensive thinking of having wife's p38 done very sluggish, i myself have a defender 90 ;):D cheer's defender dinky
