  1. Thanks, but thats about the best bit !! The rear inner wings, rear arches and strangely the rear door lower pillars where the striker plate mounts were all rotten. along with the rear body mounts... I hold my hands up and admit I bought a lemon here !! but there you go. from the rear arches onwards its absolutely mint.
  2. Thanks for your replies so far. It rather looks like I'm going to have to fabricate something up then. Was thinking of patching it but seems a bit of a bodge when I'm replacing just about everything else in the boot area. Andy
  3. That's what I was starting to think, I'm kind of in danger of moving things across just because I know what they cost me..
  4. Ahhhh yes. we haven't actually cut out the floor yet, been to busy rebuilding the in rear sides and wheel arches...
  5. Its the bit with the white plastic things on Im after ??
  6. Hiya ! Ive got boot floor kit with all the cross braces and the sheets either side of the floor. also a new crossmember, the bit I'm after is the bit that the door would shut on ? will try and post a pic
  7. Hi, Am rebuilding the rear of my Disco, wish I hadn't started to be honest. However does any one know where I can get the rear most boot floor piece that has the white plastic bobbins on that hold the rear boot trim/finisher ??? I can try and download a picture if it helps?? Andy
  8. Hi All, My Discos V8 has just let go rather spectacularly.. Haven't had a chance to look at the engine yet but think it will most likely be terminal. Ive also got a nice 300TDI Disco that I bought to use for some long-ish breaks away (thought I might try Spain first then as I feel braver go further afield) If Im honest I don't do as much serious off road stuff as i used to just a bit of P+P and laining bit of a waste really. So The V8 is (was) quite a sorted truck, 4.12 ARB's, All Ashcroft running gear, OME +5 shocks, Scorpian Springs, Megajolt, LPG etc , etc., which was great for all my off road antics but not much good for expedition stuff. So Ive decided to break the V8 but am not sure what parts would be appropriate to keep for the other truck. For instance, I am going to stay with standard tyre size but go with all terrain's so my Micky Thompson muds wont be suitable. I don't need a suspension lift so will sell the Springs, probably go for OME springs but standard hight if they do them, maybe move my X-Springs over, but was thinking of keeping the OME +5 shocks at the rear and the +2" OME shocks at the front. Just because something isn't lifted doesn't mean you cant have articulation ?? The V8 has cranked front arms, DC front prop, would there be any benefit to moving them over ? Maybe fit one of X-Eng's lockable rear anti roll bars ?? Will sell the 4:12 ARB's as I will be on standard size tyres (I've got a set of standard ratio lockers I will probably fit along with the Ashcroft shafts and CV's Am I on the wrong track? or would I be better off selling all the bits and starting again with better suited stuff... Andy
  9. Thanks, do you know what the pipe that goes to the brake vacuum pipe is doing? i guess I would just blank it off at the servo hose?
  10. Sorry the title is wrong ! I meant Near side in the title
  11. Hi All, Well, I've gone diesel as my V8 has rather spectacularly blown up the other week. And this is the first of what I'm sure will be many questions. There is, what would appear to be, a small electric vacuum pump behind the N/S headlamp (where the second battery would sit.) It has 1. A pipe to the air box 2. A pipe to the EGR valve (EGR soon to be removed) 3. A pipe to a brake servo hose What does it do? And is it needed? It looks like the cruise control pump on my V8 but I don't have cruise on the 300tdi Thanks in advance Andy
  12. I run a set of MTZ on my disco. I like them. There good on the road and they haven't let me down in the mud. Cannot. Comment on the noise as I'm used to them. Shame your after 18's as I'm breaking my truck due to the engine letting go the other day Ive got 6. Two of which are new. Andy
  13. Ive spent a couple of week in the Moab, Utah rented a Hummer !! just had the best time. some brilliant off roading and some stunning scenery.. Not an overland trip but was stunning. Andy
  14. Hiya. Thanks for the reply, I'm all up and running now. Turns out the relay I put in to power up the Edis and MJ had a corroded pin on it. It was still clicking so the coil was still working so in my roadside checks I thought it was ok. Took me maybe 5 mins to fix it the next day once I had my meter with me. So always check the simple things first I guess. Andy
  15. Hi all, Well I've broken down and am waiting for a recovery truck Discovery 3.9 serpentine v8 megajolt has been running fine. Fuel pump primes. Plenty of fuel and LPG. Put a spare spark plug in a lead and no spark at all. Car is covered in mud and is hissing down with rain. I only popped out to the shops so don't even have a coat !!! I'm thinking 1. Crank sensor ? But don't know how to test it 2. Spider alarm thing behind the stereo. Don't even have my lap top in the back as I was using at home !! Any ideas ? Poxey car!!! Andy
  16. Yup, I understand what you are saying. The NATO hitch on the back of my Disco can rotate. The ring on he trailer is fixed
  17. Hiya, thanks for you're reply, mine is a drum braked wide track. Will pump some new grease into every nipple i can find and then try the reverse with the wheel chocked thing.. The hand brake works fine, well at walking pace anyway! Andy
  18. Hi all I have recently got myself a sankey trailer and am very happy with it. However, I was having a look around it the other day. It has the round button you push down to lock the brakes off for reversing. I noticed that even when the button was in its normal driving position that the tow ring still cannot be pushed in to operate the trailer brakes. Well by hand pushing it against a wall if you see what I meen? Is this right ? How can / should I check the brakes ? Sorry for any bad grammar but am typing this on my phone Andy
  19. If you use an iPhone there is a great app called LPG locator it works out where you are and gives you a list of all the closest LPG stations, distances are as the crow flies but it does give you phone numbers as well.. Andy
  20. Been out for a longish drive and all would appear to be fine !! will probably give it yet another oil change soon just to make sure all the petrol has been cleared from the oil system... so happy days !! Thanks everyone who helped... Andy
  21. OK. All is good ! No 4 injector is knackered. It meters out for continuity between its body and either of the two pins. so I guess as soon as it gets a +ve it would open up. The LPG relays (i believe) isolate on the earth side of the injector. so even when I disconnected the relays, injector 4 was still getting an earth through its fault so didn't care ! Not being familiar with the switching of the injectors. If they are controlled by their earth then this little bugger would be on all the time !!! and may well be giving a false earth to injectors 268. So I have replaced the injector and the Disco would appear to be good on gas and petrol. Need to do yet another oil and filter change as the oil stinks, once again, of petrol will do that tomorrow. I was convinced today it was the LPG relays as well and even though they metered out OK I swapped them with two new ones but to no avail. Im very quick at changing plugs now !!!
  22. Ive just metered the pins on the injectors for continuity to earth. All the injectors on the problem bank, 2,6,8 have no continuity to earth but my suspect injector shows continuity to earth on both pins. so if they are fed a constant live and switched on their earth that might be my problem...????
  23. OK Then Good news and Bad new.. Good news is, Ive fitted a new fuel pressure regulator Bad news, it didn't fix it Although the day is not completely lost. It runs on gas. I have a question. 1. how are injectors wired ? 2. how are they fired ? My reason for asking is this. After a process of elimination I have worked out ( i think ) that if fuel injector 4 is connected it floods. If i unplug the connector by its lead it all runs fine. (all be it on 7 on fuel) When on LPG, If I unplug all the injectors on the even bank it runs on LPG, if I connect the injectors one at a time it falters when i connect injector 4. If I only connect injector 4 and leave all the others unplugged (even bank only) it falters (the engine) if I plug any of the injector connectors onto 4 it falters. if I plug connector 4 to any other injector it makes no difference I had an idea that the injectors are fired off 1 bank at a time, not individually? i.e. injectors 2,4,6,8 are opened together. so any of the even leads could be connected to any of the even injectors. If this is so, if the lead to injector 4 doesn't open any other injector then It must be good. (conversely any of the other injector leads can open injector 4 and not their own) there is an injector interrupt for the LPG system. It (when the LPG is on) interrupts both the blue and yellow wire and the blue yellow white wire in the footwell area, I didnt install this part of the system but if this has isolated the injectors how is the injector wiring still operating the injectors. Are they fed a live all the time ? and the earth is switched, if so do injectors fail to earth ?? Sorry for all the questions, but if anyone has any thoughts I would appreciate it (or questions for me to answer to make it clearer) Andy
  24. Just a quick update, got the part today but it was wrong. right for the chassis number but wrong for my Disco !! ah well they have the right one and its on its way. Im in Newcastle from tomorrow till monday so will have to leave it for now. will post up when the correct part turns up and Im back home !!! Andy
