    It also grieves me that things like Defender crossmember rebuilds are in the International forum, and not the Defender, or possibly fab forum.

  2. I saw PEN15 on a 500SEC Merc many years ago at the Ally Pally when the motor-cycle show was on, seems one of the GP riders had it at the time.

    I've just bought D15ESL - as a lot of people cant spell diesel, its a bit of fun - D13SEL was about £30K more !!

    Just debating to get P30TRL for the Rangie !!

  3. Cheers Nick - just had the guard off, and the motor and pump seem to turn freely.

    I took that box on top of the motor apart, and the little breaker switch is melted and burned up - proper job.

    Short-circuiting that switch, and it springs back into life :)

    I guess I'll just replace the switch/breaker and see how it goes.

  4. My Clarke compressor has packed up 1/2 way through a rustproofing job <_<

    Its one of these and has been giving sterling service for a couple of years.

    Here is the full spec

    On top of the motor is some kind of overload protection, its got a 16A switch/breaker on it.

    This tripped out a couple of time yesterday, I let it cool, and carried on. The there was a plume of smoke from that box, and the compressor was no more.

    Do I need a new motor, or can that bit be repaired separately ?

    Or is it a sign of a bigger problem :huh:

    I'm not using a motor starter, should I be ? Its just plumbed into a 16A feed from the house at the moment.

    You are in the same boat as me, and are finding the same thing.

    Land Rover don't do a decent LWB family car - well not until you get to the Disco 3 anyway.

    Diesel p38a would come close, but there isn't that much boot space compare to a 110.

    As for the Nissan, they are in the UK - Outlanders or something like that. They look pretty chunky. But I guess they share the same self destruct engine as the Navaro. There is a thread here about it - BullBar CowBoy may have started it.

    What you need is a nice little Izusu Trooper Holden Jackaroo :lol::lol::lol:

  6. This is my old trolley jack, but this wonderful piece of bodgery still gets plenty of use with the Clarke jack - I've got a 2nd longer one, but that does get a little outta control with 2 tonnes on it :ph34r:

  7. I've got that exact one - had it for 2-3 years - its great. Its not too heavy to lift/move. I had a 3 tonne previously and that was a bit of a monster.

    If you are in the habit of lifting a tall Land Rover via the chassis - you'll run out of lift, but under the axles is fine.

    A generic motoring question, that revolves around not being able to read a form.

    The vehicle being taxed, may or may not have been a Land Rover, but even it was its fairly tenuous, and adds little value !!

  9. Well here is my setup. All up it weighs 26kg, I don't think you could do an 8,000lb winch setup much lighter

    Spec is as follows

    • * Warn M8000
      * Reciever Hitch mount from David Bowyer
      * Allbright style solenoid pack
      * 350A Anderson connector and all new wiring
      * Superwinch metal hand controller
      * ~85feet of thick plasma
      * Ali fairlead

    Richard - if you are interested - flick me a PM. It all works 100%, but the motor is nothing special - being a 2nd hand motor from a vapour builder. It works fine, just a regular 2HP jobbie.

  10. Problem wasn’t’ with the trailing arms as much as with the rear ball joint. The ball joint ripped its steel mounting apart (4mil steel plate).

    You need to take out the springs, and its easier if the wheels are off, and cycle the suspension through all possible movement.

    This should tell you if the ball-joint is binding, or if the problem is with the weld.

    4mm is a bit skinny, the axle case is really thick, so the welding will need to be top-notch.

  11. I've got an M8000 on a cradle. I've tried to make it as light as possible with plasma rope, and an ali-hawse.

    But I've not skimped on the electrical side with decent gauge cable and an Albright style solenoid pack, and an Anderson connector.

    I can throw it on the scales later in the week, but its still pretty heavy, and you certainly wouldn't want anything bigger.

    To be honest, i built it up, but I've never used it, and I don't think I will, so it could be for sale.
