  1. Suction mounts are the key for the quick fits IMHO

Take a look here I've used the smaller ones for a bullet lens, but I wouldn't hang a full blown camera off of a small one.

Years ago I spent a lot of money on a DV cam with an analogue input for an external lens. This option is cheaper now-a-days but you still need to do external mic as well.

My Canon S2 stills camera takes very good video considering what it is. 640x480 at a good frame rate. Big files until compressed though.

I think Jez had one of the Oregon cameras

Look at the Adventure Cam that is an expensive option on new Range Rovers for ideas.

    Hope it helps

    Andy

  2. Semi-submersible?!

The cabin is pressure tested and certified, can't remember what to, but enough for serious abuse. you can just make out the snorkel rising from the back left hand corner, up behind the cab. these tanks are built for service in some pretty rough conditions, greasing points throughtout, lock-down hatches everywhere.

I love it :) I feel a trip to Sidmouth sometime to check it out.

  3. I know you started this thread Nigel - but its not aimed at you - got it ;)

This magazine thing seems to be a recurring issue - along with "Which Welder?", Scorpion Racing, winch classes etc which this and other forums seem to cover again and again.

The mags try and cover all bases. Thats why they have front covers showing their features, and an index telling you exactly what is in the magazine.

I've spent thousands of hours checking out magazines in newsagents, some I buy, some I put back.

If you think the articles are worth you £3-£4 - complete the purchase, if not walk away.

If you subscribe and are un-happy - cancel.

Its pretty easy really - I've been buying magazines for years

Take this forum as a parallel example - I like it, I contribute, I read, I post. All is well.

But do I complain about all the Series content, because I'm not interested in Series ? Do I complain about the bad advice telling newbies to go out and buy a kinetic rope? No I take the rough with the smooth, filter out what I need and am happy with my lot - same with magazines.

If there was a magazine called "4x4 Modification" people would buy it, but then people would complain that they can't relate to the features beacuse they don't have a divorced Atlas transfer box, or don't see the need to rebuild a brand new £1000 winch, when what they want is to be able to bolt on some side steps so Granny can get in the back.

I'll be on the swings - I'll come over and see you on the roundabouts later

  4. Thanks all - thats great :D

Fridge - I forgot about your 109 being virtually identical to a 110CSW - well in ready body dimensions anyway, and prehaps only that

This is what I've got in mind BTW

1/3rd + 2/3rd split tailgate - Disco 3 style to give a "table" and shelter for making a brew

Rear windows replaced with lockers to help access smaller items - I've taken inspiration from the TrekOverland build in the DEC LRM

So far it all fits in........

  5. If you are expected to be in an office smartly dressed at 9am on Monday morning - it doesn't really work at all.

If you get home at 5pm on Sunday night, and the vehicle is filthy inside and out - its a PITA. Especially when everything is cold/dark/wet.

People driving home from site days with windows they can't see out of and with broken lights/mirrors is a pet hate of mine, doing it on the way to work on a Monday morning is in-excusable IMHO

If you go green-laning on a Saturday - then that'd work.

Think laterally - take the train, buy a motorbike, date a fat burd with a nice car, get a job where you don't have to work Mondays

  6. Andy do i see that you have a slide on your engal. How do you find it

It allows me to slide it out, and load the basket in easily. So I can pack the basket with food and beer in the house, and then just drop it in.

Again its made from cast-offs from computer installations - the price the expedition people charge is mad.

If they weren't so damn heavy - I'd send you some - check ebay for 19" rails/slides and get handy with your pop-rivet gun

  7. Jim

Some useful links - but damn those catches are expensive

For rails - find someone who works in IT - real IT not desktop PC  and they might be able to lay their hands on some runners from 19" cabinets.

The ones I just got for my co-driver from a Fujitsu PrimePower server, he says are like jewelery they are made so nicely - and he's a watchmaker by trade.

The piccies of my setup are here on LR4x4

Leeds - thanks for the pricing - thats a sensible price ;)

DiscoRyan - yes please to the price list - I've got a vapour build to plan for

Those LineX sprayed drawers are sweet - I hate chequer plate but its what I had !!

  8. Alternatively why not do as mr moglite with his isuzu and build some to fit (can't find the thread or i'd link it) that looked pretty good to me

Thanks - I've got about £40 invested in my setup - about 40 hours of fab too though :o

Does anyone know how much the MSS stack'n'stow bits are - just interested

  9. Looks nice but the fatal design fault is that the legs supporting the tent are connected to the ground ...... the 110 and the ground don't move at the same time. Put this up in a strong wind and you will understand exactly what I mean.

Are you talking about the Land Rover swaying on its springs ?

I saw a Swiss couple carried 2 x standard Defender jacks, I believe they used these like caravan steadies.

Would this help with your design flaw ?

  10. I've been researching Expedition style Land Rovers for a while.

Came across this, though it might be of interest

Looks really sweet IMHO - plenty of space inside the Landie, and for sleeping, also scope for making a Safari room under the fold out tent.

Put an Eberspacher in the Land Rover and keep it all warm :D

    Its not in production yet

But here is their previous effort

Not worthy of the Tate Gallery, but not bad - its seems the DIY kit, for that model is about £1800 which compares well with a fancy roof rack with a grands worth of roof-tent on it.

Here is their complete website with Google translations

I feel I might have to plan a trip to Germany next year

  11. Andy, are they the slim or wide hubs? I've been trying to get a slim hub one but I've had no sucess - it's been on order for several weeks!

    I haven't a clue. They are 110 circa 1990

Have a look when I dig 'em out for Jules

    Andy
