So looking to fit some gauges and one of those I want to fit is a boost to my 200tdi, but not sure where everyone is talking about fitting a t piece, and can someone suggest where I can get the T piece etc. to do it. Want ot use a VDO guage to keep with Defender style.
Am I right in thinking that the T piece will go into the Hose Turbo Actuator - RTC5099?
Cheers,
James

Awesome, yes I have this bit already, will put it in as the relay, why doesn't Haynes tell you it's not a straight forward relay.
Thanks again western, you are the ultimate defender encyclopedia.

Amazing response, thanks so much

Hi Guys,
Sorry another electric question. What is the point of the Voltage transformer in the 200tdi? It's the crazy Lucas black box.
It seems to just be for the illumination lights for the dash, is this right? I can't see this device in the td5/300tdi wiring diagrams? Does this mean there no change in voltage?
If I fit a td5 instrument warning panel and clocks do I still need this?
Cheers,
James

Ok so it's the same flasher unit between the 200tdi and the td5? Bloody Haynes manual looks different, but wires are the same. Thanks

Sorry for more questions on wiring.
I have been looking through the MY2002 Defender wiring and Haynes manual and the LR Genuine Wiring Diagrams for 200tdi to try and figure out what the purpose of the relay is on the TD5 which is connected to the hazards, it doesn't appear to exist on the 200tdi? Does this mean they are different switches? Is the flasher unit in the td5 hazard switch? Confused....
Sorry if these are silly questions, planning out a custom loom and just trying to rationalise as much as possible.
Am putting all the new circuit diagrams into visio so will upload when I am done.
Cheers,
James

And following this I guess actually connects to this:

Thanks guys,
I have some sort of switch - loose which I believe screws into the brake servo, assume that this is therefore the brake light switch for rear lights.
Thanks for the heads up on the relay requirement, do I take it that this is therefore connected to this:

Hi Guys,
Trying to put together a custom loom for my 200tdi 110 project. Trying to put something more like the td5/300tdi without the ecu nonsense in as it seems more sensible - fuse and relay wise. However with all my added extra lights etc., I am running out of space.
Can anyone tell me why it is necessary to have a brake check relay? Can this not just be a straight feed from the switch in the back of the brake servo?
Cheers,
James

thanks guys, much appreciated

looking good. Ok not to worry. My engine is already in so thinking that the heating it up to stick it may be an issue. Although its a 200tdi so only real area i cant get at easily is around the bell housing. Will be watching ur build with interest

thanks for the response on fatmat, do you think it's worked well?
-
Hi all,
I know this is done to death, but I'm about to do my spraying and after that it will be time to do the sound and heat insulation. I read on here that FatMat is supposedly good, but I was wondering what people thought of StP, they claim StP is the best and used on submarines but would love to know if anyone has used it before and what their views were?

Second this - although I would like one for a 200tdi 110 1991. Trying to redo the wiring and theres no hint of what the relays in the switchbox do...

awesome news, thanks maverik

Cheers guys, might have to see if I can get something made up to sit under the divers seat, but that tank does look like a possible solution - just wont fit where I want I think - or have I misunderstood where it sits?

Hey all,
SO I have a td5 bulkhead, with a 200tdi engine. I am planning on putting an eberspacher deisel heater in but want to know if I can put a td5 heater box and matrix in or whether I need to stick with the 200tdi matrix and heater box?
Anyone know the difference between them? I think the angle of the heater matrix pipes differ but I can deal with that. Is the mounting, size, controls, etc different?
Cheers,
James

So I'm working on a 110 project and I want to have some way of carrying water. Now I was looking at the tanks which sit behind the rear bulkhead but then I got to thinking with a friend. Why can't I just get a side mounted tank on the 110 and just connect it up for water. Well I realise that this is going to give a whole host of issues if I were to get a metal tank. But 12gallon tank or what have you, and low mounting would be ideal.
Question is, is there a plastic side tank I can get for a 110 (td5 chassis)?
Thanks in advance,
James

thanks les - as i said, was told they had been refurbed but might be that it was as i said just new seals etc and not crown and pinion. Will get round to it at some point i guess. Also gives me an excuse to get a rear disc axle for the 110.

Hi all,
So wondering what sort of play there should be in Defender diffs. My project is getting going now (taken on from someone else) and the axles had apparently been refurbed. I have a sneaky suspicion the diffs were painted and had new seals and wheel bearings, but no crown and pinion refurb.
Anyway i can get about a 1/6th turn out of both the front and back. Is this OK or do I need to whip the axles off and redo the crown and pinion?
Cheers,
James

I'm with Adrian Flux, have been for 3 years, and as I am a grad student my address is always changing. Not only do they give me the cheapest price, but also dont mind me changing address, and changing the mods with them (only done it twice) but never had any admin charges. Never had any issue with customer service and they have always bent over backwards to accommodate me.
