I would like to swap my r380 box with a recon but price is a bit steep. I have considered buying a second hand box and rebuilding it myself. I don't condider myself an experienced mechanic but I am up for a challenge. Are there any good video's taking you through the refurb and will I need specialised tools.
Or would I be better off saving up and getting a professional refurb box ? I am thinking of a nice winter project and saving money too. Am I out of my depth ? Any comments !
Ian, it's a false economy, If you're not experienced with mechanics then as Dave has rightly said save your money and spend out and get it done right the first time round, I did a re-bearing of a transfer box about 15 years ago and wasted quite a bit of cash-of which I didn't have a lot of at the time, I then had to go and get another transfer box as I'd cocked it up through ignorance and arrogance on my part.

Ed, This looks like two of the brackets you'd need to do the conversion-listed as one brackets though
John
-
Ed, you could take the £600 you're going to pay for the axle and use it to get all genuine parts for doing the conversion to your original axle and still have a lot of change left over

The reason my axles run the wheel bearings in the EP90 oil from the diffs is because I specifically removed the axle to stub axle seals when I've redone my wheel bearings in the past, and I was following the advice of someone who has a much greater experience of landrovers than I ever will-Although I was originally sceptical I'm very happy as my wheel bearings last longer than they ever did when I ran them on grease.

I've been running oil lubed wheel bearings for about 15 years and they've always given me good service, I Initially grease them on fitting them and then let the EP90 do the work.

My front number plate is mounted on my winch bumper(under the head light) by a chequer plate bracket and 6mm bolts onto rivnuts

You could always swap it out for one of the steel security type cubby boxes, I was lucky enough to get one from newbury a while ago-for decent money and it has all of the normal attributes of a standard cubby but you can lock it up.

Chris, Many thanks for your pointer to a bad charging unit, I have bought a Belkin one from amazon and this has solved my problem-No RF interference at all, Just goes to show just because the original device does the job of charging my phone doesn't mean it's not going to cause another problem

Good morning all,
I wonder if anyone can shed any light on a continuing problem I have with my transit, when I plug my Iphone in to charge it the radio loses most if not all of it's signal and all i get is white noise, however if i remove it then I get radio 2 etc. back, the satnav I use sometimes (It charges off the same cigarette lighter socket) does not affect the radio at all, how or what is causing the interference when I plug my phone in to charge when on the move? It's a bit of a pain in the ass to be honest.
Mod's I appreciate this is not land rover based but with all of the expertise on here I'd rather come here to ask than go somewhere else.
Thank you all In advance

Ian, I've run blue ones in both my 90 and my old 110 and they've always measured(within land rovers tolerances correctly ) my trucks were either running 7.50x 16 tyres or 235/85/16

Blue I believe is the colour you need

Coolant could definitely do with flushing. Rad is good condition, not perfectly clean but definitely not blocked. But neither of those would explain the sudden rise and decrease on the gauge would they?
I'll go buy 5L of anti-freeze tomorrow and flush the system in the meantime
Jack, surely if the rads semi blocked(with the rust particles that you mentioned in your first post-why does it have rust in it and not just coolant?) then it'd cause a decrease/increase of flow when the blockages are moving around when the pump is working-hence why the gauge fluctuates?
John
-
Cooling system need flushing out by any chance?, If I hammer mine on the motorway and I have a similar situation as you-big intercooler in front of the rad, I normally turn the electric fan on as I keep an eye on my temperature gauge and that normally sorts it out

That was advertised on F/b in the outdoor gear trade thing

What about a piece of 6 inch plastic drainage pipe, brown or grey-they come in 3m lengths and when you apply a stopper to the bottom end they become water tight so you can as long or tall as you want with only 6 inches in diameter
