  1. Hi, I removed the cat and EGR to increase the performance and fuel economy. Removing the ERG helps the flow of 'clean air into the combustion chamber and removing the cat gets rid of the restriction to help speed up the removal of the exhaust gas. It works. I'm up to 30 + miles to the gallon from 20 - 25 and with the price of fuel here these days it wont be long before it's the same as in England. I will be fitting other engine tuning items as well these I sauce from 5Alive tuning. www.td5alive.com. Check it out also check out youtube for the fastest Land Rover. Cheers
  2. Hi, I don't know much about this stuff or where the other person got their information from but I have a 2005 spec 90 XS with self levelling head lamps I.E. a switch on the dash to change the headlamp level. Also try this place: lloydspecialistdevelopments.co.uk I did a quick Google for a HID conversion and found it. Hope it helps Landypc
  3. Hi guys, I seem to have a problem starting. I own a 2005 Td5 XS 90. 28,500 on the clock. 6 months ago I removed the cat and fitted a decat pipe and egr removal kit. No problems until 2 weeks ago. Started the engine as usual. I always follow the standard start procedure for the Td5. I looked in the mirror to see a cloud of white smoke. I let the engine idle and it cleared. I did not think anything of it. The following morning the same thing happened only this time when I tried to rev the engine to clear the smoke, it smothered the engine almost making it stall. Once again I let it idle, revved the engine and it cleared. I have not had a problem since until yesterday, the same thing happened. This time I got out leaving the engine idling and I could smell heavy diesel, just like you have when you start building plant machinery. I've used the vehicle today without any problem. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Can anyone diagnose the problem from what I have described? The Landy dealer here in Guernsey is useless!!!!! Cheers
  4. Dear all, I'm at my wits end trying to get some Bonatti grey spray paint. The paint code is 659. I've checked it and double checked it, it is Bonatti grey but every time I get the paint it is at least 2 shades darker and more like pewter grey. how many shades are there for Bonatti grey. the vehicle is a 9 Defender XS. I bought it from new in November 2004. Whats done or going wrong, surely it cant be that hard to get a match. And before some one says it, I have been to all the bodyshops here in Guernsey and the cheapest price I was quoted was £300.00 for a localised repair. to spray the door complete would be almost £500.00.
  5. Do your self a favour and contact Kenlowe direct. They saved me a bundle and I haven't looked back. More power & fuel economy. Well worth it. If you are doing more than just road and/or light to mild off road work then stay with original cooling. landypc
  6. Dear all, Without starting a debate and causing all manner of problems with arguments and alike, I want to tune my 04 spec 90 XS. I have already purchased and had fitted an EGR removal kit and de-cat pipe, now I want to continue and get more! I have read so many articles about who can get the best and most from the Td5 engine. Now I’m completely confused because of the so called gains stated and claims made by the people/companies conducting the work and then read about how the gains are wrong by a vast amount. I live in the Channel Islands (no I’m not Bergerac), like most I do not have a bottomless pit of funds however once off this god forsaken lump of rock, the money I have I want to spent it once and get the job done correctly without being ripped off. I would like a genuine 200 BHP engine. Who do I go to, Td5alive, IRB, Bell or Twisted or a combination of one or all? What experiences have you people had with these companies? Good and bad please and if without being too nosey how much have you spent?
  7. Juma, I have been looking at Croytec. They sell a VDO water temp gauge, do you know if this is a direct swap with the standard Land Rover gauge? landypc
  8. Dear all, I want to fit some additional gauges to my 2004 XS 90 Td5. I want to shift the gauges over and fit a rev counter next to the speedo. I also want to fit a turbo boost gauge, any ideas on where to mount the boost gauge and clock once its space has been taken?
  9. Speak with someone like Devon 4x4 first. I have been talking with Chris there and he advises about problems encountered with the front propshaft once you start to lift!!! landypc Before I go and buy anything, brand new or otherwise, I'm looking for the following: 1. QT Diff Guards - Front and Back for Defender 90 2. 2" Lift Kit (Springs, Shocks, Dislocation Front & Rear, Brake Hoses, Bumper Stops) Paddocks have (2) at £358 but seems expensive? Also looking for 3. Good Halogen Lamps for Front Bumper. All help and advice appreciated Mark __________________ Rgds,
  10. Hi Santiago, How much money do you have to spend on new shock absorbers? Do not buy Britpart shocks. If you are on a limited amount to spend then buy original. If you can wait and save a little more money then buy Bilstein B6. Do not be tempted buy Pro-Comp they will not last because the chrome surface to the damper rod is poor quality. landypc
  11. Dear all, Can anyone help. I want to replace my anti-roll bar bushes with Polyurethane ones, but I need to know the diameter of the bars. I do not own a micrometer. In the 'good old, bad old, days' when I was a lad, manufacturers used to emboss the diameter into the rubber bush I.E. the number in mm (24) followed by the international symbol for dia. I cannot find this on any of the bushes. Is there a standard size? I have tried talking to all the dealers including my local landy franchise and land rover them selves, but I might as well be talking fluent b*~#'$?s, I have tried using a Babel fish, but this doesn't work either. No one will talk to me or answer my question? Someone out there must know the answer, for you who are switched on it's not 42 either!!!! LOL landypc
  12. Many thanks for your reply. As usual this forum shows how much help is out there and available. Cheers landypc
  13. Dear all, Not been on recently, so thanks to all that gave some sound advice regarding my previous questions. I am thinking of fitting wheel spacers. I have standard Land Rover Boost alloys fitted to my 04 (54 reg) XS 90. I was thinking of fitting 40mm spacers. However I have read so much bad press regarding the premature failure of bearings, steering joints and alike, I would like some feedback from someone that has them fitted and get the pros and cons. can anyone help? landypc

  15. Hi, I have thought about it but with a little extra out lay the ride quality would be vastly improved. The other area I forgot to mention was 'Long Range Fuel Tanks'. A company called Safari-Equip market them, has any one fitted them or had them fitted Thanks landpc
  16. Hi, I am new to LR4x4 forum and looking for some hands on practical advice from Land Rover owners. I have an 04 spec (54reg) TD5 90 XS. My understanding is the vehicle is fitted as standard with LR HD suspension. The ride is starting to soften and I want to fit some uprated shocks and bushes. I do not want a suspension lift. I've done the usual, bought the mags, trawled the net etc but still none the wiser. Going on previous experiences with modifying vehicles I am drawn to the use of Bilstein shocks. My question is this: Do I go for Bilstein, Old man Emu or Pro-Comp I will also be replacing all of the bushes with polyurethane ones. without starting a debate or upsetting anyone, what polyurethane bushes can any one suggest. Thanks landpc
  17. Hi, I am new to LR4x4 forum. I do not know where you live but if you are in England contact Gary Wood at TD5 Alive! Their products are second to none. They use T304 stainless steel. Only go for a 2 1/2" system, Gary will advise you on this. He is a straight talker with no BS. So far I have used TD5 Alive for my EGR valve removal kit and a T304 stainless decat pipe. Good performance increase and increased fuel economy. If he can not supply then he will suggest a very good alternative. landypc
