  2. Hi there all, can anyone give some feedback on the KL71 used in winter and more so on the ice. Many thanks Gary
  3. Hi there, you made mention that the box would break without the kickdown fitted, i run a ford f250 with a ford 460 block running a C6 autobox and had no kickdown fitted without trouble,(not saying it was the right thing to do) So what is the danger in not fitting the kickdown???? (short explanation for the students PLEASE) Thanks Gary
  4. That is strange I have found them (Sureterm) to be helpful, but like you say, I was disappionted with the payment sceme going through a third party lender, my added on interest was £70 above the quote, yet they were still cheaper than the others at the time, I have comprehensive and greenlaning cover, just not permitted to drive other vehicles. This is for a Disc 2 X reg.
  5. Hi there, your idea and intensions are great. What does amaze me is how quickly some people shout out the negative aspects and not offer a solution. Instead of a standing data base of owned vehicles, you could limit it to a data base of stolen vehicles, with a police case ref. no. and contact tel. no. police/owner, thus should anyone suspect a particular vehicle they could search the data base. (so no you are not inviting the thieves to your home as the car is already stolen) We all see individual messages of my LR is gone, but a week later try find that message again, all these messages need to be collected in one folder. As far as data protection you would be consenting to putting these details in a public domain. In addition you could link it to an automated email system to go out to forums whom would post it on their site, and it can be linked to the text check system as suggested. You are right in saying we should stand united against crime.
  6. The gear box should have a serial number on it, which would corresponde to part of the vin number.
  7. Hello all. I need some advise on my options, my D2 4.0 V8 is now dead, one cylinder has little to no compression. I haven’t got the head off yet to see if it is a valve or rings issue. Before I dive into that I was wondering on the possibility of putting in a 4.6 engine, So my question is what kind of a head ache would this be, I have an auto box and the vehicle is a 2000 year ES model, what would need upgrading to be compatible ignition etc, as I don’t suppose it would be a simple swap out. Secondly if I was to buy a second hand 4.0 engine how do I tell what ignition system I currently have, be it Bosch or Sagem. Thanks Gary
  8. Hi there, you won't go wrong with a Tom Tom, have had mine for 18 months know and it has been worth ever penny, the Euro model is about £170 if I remember correctly.
  9. Hi there, I got my 1994 model 5 door RR insured with Swinton for £450 two years back and my Disco 2 2000 model insured with Sureterm direct in August 09 for £750 both on 8000 miles PA Full Comp. , although I was 34 yrs old at the time however my GB licence was only 6 months old and I had no no claims references, so I think they were pretty good deals. Good Luck
  10. "Wrong" I said, got back in and drove off, he just stood there - plank - I did feel a tad guilty Good for you well done, you must have made the old girls year, imagine living next door to a pratt like that.
  11. Hi there, i`m no mechanic but have you tried bridging it at the starter motor, I am not familiar with 200TDI wiring but hows your earth cable, live cable and starter relay cause it sounds like you not getting enough power at the starters end.Good luck.
  12. Serves them right, they should have stayed home, I like how they venture out in there 2wd cars and then expect sympathy when they get stuck and look on for help from the 4x4 owners, but then for the rest of the year they moan about our "gas guzzlers".
  13. We had about an inch of snow in Hook Hampshire, thought I would let the wife take my Disco 2 to work being a bit more advanced than her 1994 Vitara, whilst I slept in for night shift.Five minutes later I have the wife at the front door looking a bit pale in the face, she manage to do a 180 degree skid at the end off the road, really icy this side, so now I am the taxi driver.
  14. Found this on the Keith Gott Land Rover web site if it helps. AMR4247 Alternator A127 Type 100 Amp. Defender, Discovery I, + Classic, 1994 on. Denso £72.50 + VAT
  15. Thanks for the enlightenment and I can appreciate the concerns shared with the abuse of green laning, back in South Africa once upon a time we could ride on the beaches but because of the abuse, misuse and drunkeds beach driving was out right banned, even impacting on the launching of ski boats.
  16. Sorry maybe I am missing something here, but what is the deal with not being able to winch on a green lane ??????
  17. Thanks for the reply, Iguess I need to get under there a see what I can do.
  18. Hi all, could anyone tell me how difficult it is to fit a diff lock mechanism to the transfer box on a Disco 2 x-reg (2000), as I understand it the transfer box has the internal mechanism as standard yet in the early Disc 2 models the activation controls were not installed in the cab. Secondly would I gain that much more traction with center diff lock concidering I have traction control, any word of wisdom welcomed. Thanks Gary.
