  1. Hi all, Well to add a 1p to the topic, in trade school we were taught to store batteries on wood too and this was in South Africa so the cold wasn't a factor there, for the life of me I can't recall why we had to do this, school ended 20 years ago.
  2. Great 4x4, used them in RSA for work on the beach tower boats.
  3. Found this on eBay. No they are not mine, I have no affiliation to seller. Someone here may find them useful. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PAIR-FRONT-AND-REAR-DANA-70-AXLES-BRAND-NEW-OFF-ROADER-LAND-ROVER-BUGGY-/370603967333?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item5649b7c365#ht_641wt_922
  4. I must say, I have never used the torque multiplier tool before, I will look into it. I do seem to be doing odd jobs on my D2 that require torquing, like cylinder head bolts and wheel bearing hubs, and I'm tired of having to beg and borrow a torque wrench, so it's time I get my own. Thanks for the replies though.
  5. Can't disagree with that, thanks.
  6. Good day gents, As anyone had any experience with the BGS technic tool band as far as reliability goes. I'm looking at buying a torque wrench that will reach the torque setting of 490 nm as require for the hub/ wheel bearing nut of a Discovery 2. The price is right "affordable" at £130.00 as apposed to +£300.00 for most other brands, I only worry that when you buy cheap you get cheap. Thanks in advance for your opinions.
  7. Hi, there. I had a similar proble with a VW golf, when park on a slope/ hill with the engine at the lower end, fuel would fill into the cylinders and buy pass the rings. Turned out to be a fault with the carburettor, fuel would drain through when left standing. Worth a look, hope it helps.
  8. Thanks for the info. Cheers Gary.
  9. Hi there, if you are still shopping for tyres have a look on the Camskill website. The Toyo, Cooper and Hankook brands offer AT patterns and they as as good as if not better than General Grabbers. They are also in that critical price arrange of affordable. Cheers Gary
  10. In South Africa, taxis grant you immediate respect on the road! You will only ever appreciate that feel of satisfaction if you have had the pleasure of living or driving in SA
  11. Hi all, Is it difficult to bleed the air through the ABS unit once the new master cylinder is fitted. Are there any other possible issues to avoid. Thanks Gary.

  13. Hi there, the Bordon site is Hogmoor Road Whitehill Bordon GU35, it is an Army tank site so only used by clubs for events. Check the SCOR calender and ShireLRC they have events for Feb I think. Cheers Gary
  14. Hi there, have you removed the starter as that was, as you said the last thing you used when cranking for oil preasure. Cheers Gary
  15. Hi Rik, how do the KL71 perform on ice now that you have added the sipping, can you see a difference under braking conditions. Thanks Gary
  16. Hi all, just to add my 5 cents, why do all these do go'ers feel they have the right to tell everyone else, how we should enjoy the outdoors, it is not like there are tens of thousands of off roaders that will destroy every last inch of the great outdoors. All we ask for is a place where we can get dirty but this they find offencive, WHYYYYYY are ask WHYYYYYY. Ok rant over, blood preasure returning to normal.
  17. Hi there, as you said, I have paint flaking on the body around the top of rear door and light bubbling at the corners above the front windscreen. My D2 is a 2000 yr. no were else yet.

  20. Good morning all. I have a D2 4.0 ES X-reg, lately it seem the front wheels tend to spin on fast pull away or slippery surfaces, I tried to test it in a muddy patch and the front wheels do seem to be turning quicker than the rear wheels yet there is drive to all 4 tyres and the T/C kicks in, could there be a problem with the split in the drive from the transfer box, how do I check for correct operation of the t-box. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Gary
  21. A pair of goggles for yourself, they help in smoke, you can't drive if you eyes are burning. Found this out fighting farm fires in South Africa.
  22. I am on the road more (LR D2), I supose I want my bread buttered on both sides with good icy road tration and the ability to go off the beaten track now and then, and no one makes a winter compound MT tyre, woundn't that be great.
