  1. It needs power to start the engine AND while the engine is running, if the fuel solenoid wire is pulled off while the engine is running it stops... Brian
  2. Ok, thank you, that confirms that As I say it's very secure at the moment but when i get time I'll make up a frame from angle iron an clamp the battery down properly just to make it a proper job. Cheers, Brian
  3. For an MOT I know the battery has to be secured (I think), Does this mean a steel bracket or is my current set up of a ratchet strap ok? The battery is rock solid with the ratchet strap after all... Cheers, Brian
  4. Some people use a disco or RRC hand brake lever and fit it to the seat box just to the left of the seat, so actually on top of the seat box. Apparently it works very well, obviously the old lever is just completely removed. I'm going to do this mod... Brian
  5. I think it would be worthwhile but as people have said would be easier using a 109 as a donor OR if you already have a swb just find yourself a lwb tub. Althouh it's a lot of work and head scratching when done it'll be a beauty! I'm planning a 100" light weight (based on a disco) with a V8 and auto box but the difference is the lightweight body is very slab sided so it wont be as* hard to completely redesign the tub. My general plan is to get a disco down to a rolling chassis, remove the rear fuel tank and all outriggers then from here get the bulkhead on and then work backwards (and forwards) from there. I want the wheels right at the back (almost like a bobtail or tray back would be) so although it'll be 100" the overall length wont be huge amounts more than a std light weight... Brian
  6. That defiantly concludes that then! Turbo here i come! Cheers, Brian
  7. That's kind of my thinking... I just don't want to go frazzling my endine but don't want to be worrying for no reason also! Cheers, Brian
  8. Hi, Im about to put the turbo back on the 200(T)di but dont have the oil cooler parts yet. Will there be any harm in running it without the oil cooler for a while or will the turbo instantly cook the oil? It's not like It'll be going distances, just 2 mile test drives at the moment really. Cheers, Brian
  9. Really sorry to hear this, a pic would be useful though. It's very worrying as it's getting too close to home for comfort. I live in woodcote so have now blocked my land rover in as I heard the other day that in the Henly area there have been 8 or 9 cases in as many days. I really hope your pride and joy comes home. Brian
  10. That looks VERY good! Interesting seeing as I'm thinking of making one instead of spending silly money and that's a very similar design to what I'm aiming for too - Thanks for sharing this... Cheers, Brian
  11. I fitted a series 3 to a TD5 bulkhead without modification and my mate has a defender dash in a series 3 also. Brian
  12. Wouldn't be the easiest build, is quite unrealistic and would probably be a complete non starter but I think my ultimate land rover would be a 100 chassis of some form, TDV6, auto box and series 2 body... just makes me grin to think about it Brian
  13. Hello again to you too Thanks, photos do it more justice than it deserves though... Cheers, Brian
  14. Hi all, Thought I'd introduce myself and land rover(s). Im Brian, 17 and just finishing off the 18 month rebuild of my series 3 88 bought as a bent, rotten, non running shed for £100. I started off quickly but was held up by money because in order to get parts to progress i had to work in all my free time but this also meant no time on the build but im finally getting there . The vague spec is: galv chassis, parabolics, 200'di' (just getting parts together for Tdi), 3.51 diffs and a converted Td5 bulkhead... obviously that's just the big stuff - Now its just a case of sorting a few little bits, tidying things and some sound proofing seems an idea too. To finish the series I think I'll try and get hold of some wolf or 1 ton rims with some 7.50s or 235s because the 205s look a little lost after the lift of the paras. I also bought my dads '86 90 for the next project because i don't want to take the series 3 much further in fear of just building a replica defender. The whole running gear on the 90 is pooped so I'm going to semi strip the 90 down, fit 24 spline disco axles, rebuilt LT77/LT230 and either a 200 or 300tdi(still deciding), fit a mild lift (springs and shocks need replacing anyway), give the chassis, bulkhead and steering a once over then just paint a few things and generally tidy up the mess the PO masked with the nice paint job. I haven't properly started on the 90 yet but just through swapping parts have ended up with a nice set of 33's, truck cab and roll hoop . I'm on another forum (some of you may know) but the technical knowledge here seems much better so here I am . Cheers, Brian
  15. Hi, This is my first too (Hello everyone!) 'ACH Land Rover Specialist' do series 200tdi as well as much more exotic transplants and people only seem to have good words for the work done - From the pictures I'v seen he makes a very very tidy installation.
