Old spot,
can you supply the blue cradle to suit holding the gearbox & pump to fit a 200tdi defender?
Or have plans to make one?

Think yaself lucky, atleast you had a tent! It was bl**dy cold. Think the coldest night was sleaping on the trailer in a massive, draufty turkey shed the night before the event started.
i remember that night well
i burst my air bed pumping the ****er up

As an update to this, having run OK for a couple of days it has now started cutting out on me completely, could a blocked fuel filter/fuel starvation be the cause of these symptons?
It hasn't done the whooshing thing since that once time on Saturday!
Has the pump been tweaked?
i had a similar issue with my 200tdi
First pump i had the timing was out so it ran a bit odd, lacked ooomph & cooked the turbo
second pump was timed correctly but i got a bit carried away tweaking it with the end result the stop solenoid desintegrated & blocked the pump up causing it to randomly cut out & stall now & then to the point it wouldnt do any more than 30mph

if i remember i can post a pic in the morning

Hi Matt,
Generally for most diesels 720 deg c is the limit before you start damaging valves, but of course this is very much dependant on where you measure the temperature as the further down the exhaust from the turbo the cooler the gasses are. So always take with a pinch of salt.
Theoretically a less restrictive exhaust will reduce temperatures, Ideally on a turbo engine you want as little restriction as possible so the diameter should match the manifold outlet size which is 2.5 or 3inches I believe. if your keeping the stock midbox then 2.5 for the rest of the system I'd say.
Incidentally my EGT gauge arrived, I had to get a square mount as they had run out of round. I was quite surprised it didn't need any power at all to work, but tested it on the cooker flame and it seems ok, sluggish to start moving but once it's going the temp rises and falls quickly. Hopefully I'll have a chance to fit it this weekend.
had my 200tdi defender engine up over 600 degc frequently & it has been to 900 degc & beyond a few times with no ill affects as yet

Quoted from D44
"We've just spoken to Colin on the phone, and he has confirmed that Scorpion are in administration, but still trading"

is there a specified torque for the bolts or is it the standard measure of tight's tight, too tights f***** ?

This would be a good one for the magazines to do.
Take a stock TD5 and TDCi, a 4x4 rolling road and have a number of manufacturers provide their tune maps.
Then in a controlled situation as possible do a number of runs with each tune and compare the curves. Then a road test to add the not so subjective part of on-road driving and mpg comparisons. Obviously mpg can't be accurate as there could be a number of variables but an approximate comparison would be useful.
Cheers
Steve
was proposed by dastek last year & the only company who were wiling to give it a go on the rollers was allisport, twisted refused point blank, probably due to there cars having to go on a proper dyno

had a great day, was a bit different to the usual events that im/we are used to,
didnt have to many problems other than blowing a bead on the back tyre on section 15 & then breaking the rear winch rope trying to lift the car up to get the wheel off,
currrent damage list standa at a complete front end, (2 wings, bonnet, slam panel) set of rear lights & will have to bash out the rear 1/4s,
would happily make the trek south again for another event.
cheers to neil & all the marshals & other competitors for making us feel welcome
