the brake was presumably working when i wound the rope onto my 8274, hence the clicking noise of the brake rachet. using it under load today, it wasnt holding.whats the cause of this?worn pads?
thanks, alex

id imagine its just as cost effective to replace the hook
it was bought of ebay and advertised as 12mm, but it measures about 16mm pulled taught. maybe it is 12mm, could it become that loose that it looks that thick? ive never had it under proper tension. may just sell it and buy 125 of 11mm
ive got 100ft of 14mm genuine plasma, ive not got the winch yet,its on its way, but how much is gonna fit on the drum?80ft? seems a shame to cut it really!
can fiddle brakes be used as a traction aid. as someone who doesnt have arbs if i fitted them, when i got cross axled and the wheel with no weight on it was spinning, could that be locked to transfer drive to the wheel with the traction and weight on it? or is this likely to blow diffs, as i have simex style tyres
ive blown the back diff in my disco. it seemed to go very easily, but then i do have special tracks fitted. anyway its got range rover axles, old ones and when i took the half shafts out the bolts are imperial. now ive got a 1992 range rover, and took a halfshaft out tonight to check it was a ten spline. it is but has metric bolts on it. what i ned to know is whether the diff eill fit in the disco?
many thanks
im adding treesliders to my disco and the bolts holding the body to outriggers have corroded so need to chop them off and replace them. what size are they? they have a 14mm or 9/16 head so are they m8? or are tey imperial?

im wanting to extend the breathers on my axles and boxes, but dont wanna pay daft money for the kits. i think i want 6mm od hose which u can get on ebay and ill use push connectors to extend the transfer and gearbox breaters. but id like to put new fittings in the axles, now are they 1/4 bsp size? also what do people do with the timing cover? drill and tap it for a similar fitting?
many thanks, alex
ive heard of people 'drilling the bushes', i assume the ones at the chassis end of the radius arms. does this help, is it safe to do so and hows it done?
id appreciate any opinions
many thanks, alex
