  1. I have a electric board utility body with metal plates in four corners , with 12v contacts flush in the middle of each, didn't know what they were , but guessed ( might be wrong) that they were for external lights with magnetic bases with spring loaded contacts. You could do the same, or with bolts sticking out to attach a bit more secure. I hope you know what I mean. Brian
  2. That's a good find, it should be put into the tech archive. You'll get a gold star for that , cheers Brian
  3. NE motor salvage, Peterlee, being up today and its gone, but if you pm your telephone I'll try and get two later, just got to be on the look out, I have seen loads and been tempted to get one for spare, but sods law. Brian
  4. are the little Land Rover bottle jacks serviceable? If so , how is it done, or am I better off getting another. Being quoted a tenner from scrappy , so not too bad, but I do like them for ease of use. I do have a small collection of jacks, and always carry three in the Defender, makes it go faster downhill. cheers for any info. Brian
  5. I haven't bought one yet, but I think it may be the 90/110 variant, just been looking on ebay and fancied one for a project , but need to know how to wire it up, or if I need additional items, cheers Brian
  6. is it possible to just wire straight to the 24v alternator and get the necessary charges from it or is there other electrical components needed.. Also what voltages are generated , ac supply?, 24v. 12v cheers for any help given. Brian
  7. I was told it was his vehicle that he competed in, but what the competitions were called ,I don,t know. I have tried searching online for photos to confirm, for 100% proof, but can't find any, I was hoping someone might have some , to show her in her former glory.
  8. Hi, I have a motor that once belonged to the legendary Steve Maddison. who was tragicly killed back in 2000 along with his wife and four others. I am reluctantly going to be selling this motor on, but would rather it was sold to someone who knew Steve, or of him. If anybody knows of an interested party, could they pm me please. The motor in question is a series one chassis, with a lightweight body, series 1 gearbox, V8 engine, hydraulic steering( ahead of its time) and heavy duty rollcage. I know this would normally go into the for sale section, but its actually not for sale yet, but for the history, and Land Rover interest I would hope it would stay in this section. Brian
  9. 110 wolf rear half chassis for sale on ebay for anyone interested, cheers Brian

  16. That's a thing, has anyone had a v8 and converted to diesel , notified DVLA and still able to go into the LEZ, due to their incompetence. Brian

  19. I'll not be going to Africa, even though I would love to, but probably Europe, I have got a Iveco 2.5 turbo, which is a really good engine, but I don't know how much chew it would be to fit, or if it was worth the effort. I was going to scrap the whole vehicle today, but I bent the trailer while loading it up, It was still half full with washing machine , and a 3/4 size slate snooker table. I was having a good day till then, I had to laugh though.{otherwise I'd cry). Brian
  20. I 've got a 130 rolling chassis with a nice V8 in it, with a 5 speed box ,starts up first time and runs with no problems. I plan to build it up to make a camper. I have also got a 200tdi engine laid waiting to be used and a lt77 gearbox still fitted in a 110. Now I am tempted to a conversion due to the fact I have had a 300tdi now for about 8 years and know it a bit better than a V8, ( I have a limited knowledge, I have stripped the carbs before, but thats about it). Now while it is still a rolling chassis , do you think I should do; 1, a conversion , with engine and gearbox 2, a conversion , with engine, using original gearbox{is it possible) 3, a lpg conversion,( Su carbs so pretty easy I think) bearing in mind, I would probably due a veg oil conversion with the diesel. your thoughts, please. Brian
  21. try heating the paint up, I had good results, but again that was in the summer. Brian
  22. Forgot to add , I lifted the engine in with my 37 year old girl(old JCB ) and my 11 year old girl , my daughter, guiding me in. Another Land Rover nut. What a grand job she did. Brian
  23. I've just finished fitting my first engine transplant into my Defender. Engine was from a Discovery.. I'm over the moon, feels totally different, loads more power . My old engine must have been tired for a long time. I had to change clutch,{only done a few thousand miles}, alternator, lift pump, and temp sensor. The alternator fitted was shorted and drain my batteries, the lift pump was knackered, and I thought I had bought a lemon, took it out for a test drive and temperature started to rise quick, and went off the scale, thought maybe the thermostat was stuck, so took that out, and then thought maybe the waterpump was goosed, but remembered somewhere on here I think, that the temp sensor is different to a Defender. So just changed that over and jobs a goodin, and I did my first cam belt change too. I'm a happy chappy. Brian
