  1. 150 views and counting, well guys it looks like its just us 3 that are a little unlucky when it comes to our Disco's lol, maybe everyone else is just a little embarrassed about their disco woes ha ha ha Either way i know im going to have many many more to come, looks like my Disco has firmly welcomed me into the world of Land Rover ownership.
  2. cheers OG just wanted to hit a wider audiance with the question first.
  3. sorry your mates had his motor nicked by some low life scum.....but why have the drivers faces been pixilated out?
  4. Cheers Steve, when it comes to brakes id rather not use after market jobbies and go with LR parts, perfect fit and no need to worry about tollerances like you said. Also thinking about it the pistons in the calipers are well more than a little dry, think they need removed, cleaned then a bloody good dose of grease / lube to aid movement and ref the front calipers i just need to get the bolts out.
  5. Thinking of replacing the calipers all round on my disco 2 also the front discs, can someone recommend somewhere that sells for a good price close to Aldershot or mail order think i might put +2'' pipes on while at it ready for changing the springs and shocks.
  6. A little help needed so thought id post here to see if i can get the right answer or close enough. Have got new pads for front and rear all Mintex, the rear ones currently on are not too bad prev owner had the pads and discs replaced in march last year approx 10'000 miles ago. problem is i took out the old ones and fitted in the new but cant get the calliper over them also the piston looks to be about as far back as is possible, any ideas? Next up is the fron only this time i couldnt even get the calliper off the nut is corroded in so may need to cut off, not a prob as i have new ones with the new pads, the discs on the front do have a lip on them from ware prob origional ones so might just replace all together. Any ideas chaps or would it be better just to bit the bullet and change the callipers all round plus fron disc then all the new pads, i will not compromise on safety like stopping power when it comes to having my family in the motor or even the safety of other road users especially as winter is not too far away. Cheers fellas, and sorry if this is in the wrong section.
  7. As above, for that money on NEW MOTOR YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE FAULTS AT ALL, and a computer cant pick up every fault just look at what can go on with the 3 amigos on a Disco 2 lol. And the dealer should have taken it out to test and check for the fault at speed. No my friend if i were you id take the bugger back and tell em to sort it.
  8. i would find out who gave her the info about a new door first, they may not really be that clued up, whereas your coach builder friend may have a lot more experiance may be worth getting her to speak to your friend. A door should be pretty easy fix to be honest unless you were doing 30 lol Sure someone will be along with better advice soon I feel for ya mate, i was hit on the front off side in december while in the shop and the other driver just drove off i had no option but to claim on my cover im just glad i was fully comp.
  9. After the dramas iv had the last few days with my Disco 2 and in relation to my thread titled By god i love my Landy,i thought id take the time to start a new thread. So, for all the motor related woes and problems. You know, the 5 min jobs that end up taking 5 hours that wind you up , frustrate and drive you round the bend be they large or small, i know im not alone so come on lets hear em chaps. Im not sure if this has been covered already, im pretty sure it has although i cant find a thread.
  10. ?? Got any pics of that, would be keen to see how it looks.?
  11. Well today got off to a great start, picked up the new key for the locking nuts but while i was at the garage i spent 20 mins with the mechanic trying to find a socket to get over the covers on the nuts, long story short lent the sockets off a mate and i got all the buggers sorted on all four wheels. So after all that effort and making my back infinately worse than it already is ( thank god for pain meds ) i jacked up the rear to find the wheel was stuck on so 30 odd kicks round the rim later off it pops ( so did back ) remover calliper only to find i cant get the new pads in and back on so seeing as the old ones are pretty good they went back on. While i was at it i decided to give the front pads a swap as these are the worse warn, how wrong was i. First i managed to snap the addapter for the socket whaile splittin said socket at the same time....pop over to mates again for few more tools....( all mine were stolen from the shed at my mams house as i didnt get round to picking them up )..... only to find that i cant get the bloody nuts out to remove the calliper in the first place, so 3 hours later with ever increasing back pain i sack it fit everything back clean up more than a little pi**ed off with todays events, even more so as i cant afford to put it in the garage to get it done at the moment. So to sum up, my backs even worse than it was when i started ( no suprised really ) breaks still work but didnt get the new pads in although im glad of the chance to sort the wheels as if id got a flat on the motorway with the old locking nut and no bigger sockets id have been buggered totally, i did manage to change all the filters and engine oil mind, just need to fix the seal in the rear axle and then change the fluids and ill be happy....ish. I really do love my Landy.
  12. hey mate you posted on my wall you had one with postage about a tenner, im looking for two items so which one is it lol

  13. lol yeah i tried those, its all the little things, its always the little things. Just done all oils and filters took me 4 to 5 hrs due to a serious back problem, not impressed. Bought new pads to go on all round went to fit yesterday and cant get wheels off as locking nut remover is split due to previous owner and some of the lock nuts are rounded so looks like it might be a BFH and chisel job, not looking forward to that with a bad back. Good news is local Land Rover ( headache specialist )has ordered in a new nut remover for me to collect this morning and has a set of se cond hand nuts for me. Also the cable for the High / Low gear selector has snapped, £138 for new one OMFG. But they have a good second hand one for me for £30 but you know what sod it while its broken im going to throw in the kit from a D1 and retro fit the diff lock instead. Not forgetting the fuel pump with labour costs and new battery i had in march, and the scum that hit the car on xmas eve last year and drove off after smashing it up whaile no one was about so had to claim off my own insurance, which the repairer didnt do right then went bust so waiting for it to be collected again to get done right this time....i hope. AAAAND BREATH. LOL
  14. As above really, nothing more to add at this time lol
  15. message on way fella Also local garage told me yesterday a new cable would be £138, or they had a second hand one for £30............big difference aint it.
  16. i know its down to practicality and functionality over looks but im just not sure i like the look of the safari ones but i have heard good things and seen some pics of very bad acident damaged motors and the only thing to survive is the safari snorkle lol
  17. Cheers mate think that just confused me even more but i will look into it for sure from the pics iv seen and what i remembe it should be fairly straight forward.....i think lol
  18. Ref the convo we had then, do i take it that D1's all had diff locks and only certain models of D2 had this option? As i said carp memory lol. So other than the cable what else would i need to re enable the diff lock on my D2? And did you say you had all the parts required?
  19. that thing even for a concept is disgusting, im looking at getting a 110 in a few years and i cn honestly say hand on heart it aint gonna be one of them things, its going to be a proper Land Rover the way god / satan lol intended.
  20. Right then fellas im about to attempt to make my own snorkle soon as i really cant afford to buy one at the mo. Im going to buy the wing mount and top intake from either southdown or mantec and will sort the main pipe and flexi tube to go in the wing but im kinda stuck for ideas on how to connect the end section of pipe that im going to use to the air box where it enters the front of the wing. If i had a Disco 1 it would be a simple case of tube through the wing in to the box but with the Disco 2 the air filter box fits differently to the wing. For those that have done this could you very kindly be of help please and if you have any pics i would be even more greatfull. Regards, Gareth.
  21. So if Bogmonster is correct would the cable be easy enough to get to and replace for a novice?? Anything in the tech archive anyone as iv done a search but didnt find anything?
  22. i have two german shepherds and a sodding great x-bow and or a x-bow pistol you could borrow, and also a bloody huge hunting knife to use to cut their nuts of with. Thieving sodding scum all need drowning. Glad you still have your pride and joy. With the '' extras'' i have fitted to mine i can possitively confirm its going know where
  23. Said i could be a bit slow, down to the mass of pain meds im on for the back....least the fact i cant do sod all gives me time to poke about on the web for ideas. Just recently got my first landy and love it should have done it sooner and have got some great ideas. Once few bits done to the car its gonna be a solo trip, well me and one of my GSD's into france poss spain hopefully next year for a tester then get SWIMBO the little one and the 2 dogs, tentage sorted and get out and see some sights....this site is great and so addictive, already have plans to get a 110 or 90 to fit out not sure which yet but SWIMBO has no idea yet lol Ref the diff cable would it be easy enough for a novice to fix?
  24. Cheers Bogmonster. But one thing re your reply, iirc?????????????? = If I Remember Correctly??
  25. Oh dear oh dear, a D2 with a problem lol Will start off by saying my knowledge is pretty basic but i get there in the end so be gentle with me. When i got my new to me and first landy in december last year i tried it all out as you would and noticed the high / low gear selector was pretty stiff, i assumed this was down to not really getting used as motor was prob just a road car. I have engaged and used it once or twice since just to keep it mobile and on one occasion after using it it just kept slipping out of high when driving, may be down to not having it in correctly so stopped and re engaged. Today however while sitting in Tesco car park waiting on SWMBO I got bored so started messing with stuff, moving seats popping off little covers etc then i thought id move the gear lever as not done it for a while. What i noticed was it was very very easy to move this time just as mobile as the main gear selector and a lot smoother, even more of a supprise and more of a worry was the fact that i was able to drive the short distance home with High / neutral / low possition selected and at up to 40 mph.....( and no the engine / gearbox was not screaming for its life at me ) as you would expect when in different ratio due to speed that you need to travel. So if anyone has encountered this before or has any idea what it might be id be greatfull for any advice / suggestions from all you experienced landy owners. The Disco is a series 2 td5 manual 2000 plate, and a headache lol, waiting for insurance comp to get back to me about repair work that was not carried out correctly / full stop in feb this year and hope they will sort the steering pump too while they at it. What i did notice tonight as well was a small amount of fluid on the floor near the rear axel and on the bottom of the car its self but as its a Land Rover i think this may just be normal and think been that way for a while. I have covered 4000 + miles from getting it and will be giving it an oil change this week inc filters and also fuel filter, this is going to be done every 4 - 5k ish, prevention better and cheaper than a cure. And can anyone tell me what the bar is that runs tight under the bottom of the factory fitted front bumper it is fitted with just 2 bolts each side, is it structural? as mine is just about there there is so much rust its almos all gone other than than its tip bloody top. Long winded i know but more info the better, dont see the point in a vague post, cheers in advance fellas. Regards, Gareth.
