  2. Hi. 1995 300tdi Defender 90. I need to replace the rear silencer. It looks like its been on for a while maybe from new, not sure. I can get one from Paddocks for £53 delivered or I can get one fitted locally for £ 110. How easy are they to split from the middle box if its been on a while. Anyone with experience doing this? Thanks. Andy.
  3. Thanks for that. When you take the hinge bolts out, do the nuts behind stay in place or is there a chance they will fall? Andy.
  4. Hi. Thinking of getting some waxoil into the top corners of my 300tdi 90 bulkead. Has anyone tried drilling a hole from the inside and using one of those waxoil flexible adaptors nozzles to spray some in? Or is there a better way? Here is where I mean.. Thanks Andy
  5. Because a speedo usually over clocks speed it could just save you at speed camera's etc It could be an offence to not have a working 'normal' speedo. Wonder if you would get away with having a gps as a speedo. Just thought I would throw that one in.
  6. Hi. In just about every car I have been in using a satnav, the car's speedo seems to show 3 or 4 mph more than the sat nav does. I think the sat nav would be more accurate but only in a straight line. And they do seem pretty instantaneous. IMHO
  7. Does the fitting of a bigger amp alternator mean altering things like the wiring.
  8. Hi guys. I have a 1995 Defender 300tdi and the alternator is starting to squeel. I thik a bit of sand has got into the front bearing. Anyway my question is will a Disco 300tdi alternator fit. Also I will have to take the pulley off my old one to get the cooling fins off. Any tips for doing this. Ta.
  9. Hi, we are thinking of camping in France this summer. Because we have never been I thought I would ask if anyone has any recomendations of any good camp sites over there. We have two children 4 and 12. Thinking of going in the summer holidays. Maybe southern France. Is it best to book in advance or take a chance to find a site when we get there? etc. Thanks. Andy.
  10. Has anyone tried to fit speakers into these panels? Is there enough room? I would like to fit a set of rear speakers in my Defender 90. I am fitting 4 tip up seats so there doesn't seem an obvious place for them. Has anyone found a good place which produces a decent sound? Any photos would be good. Thanks. Andy.
  11. "Don't forget to ask a teenager while they still know the answer to everything!"
  12. The Defender wheels are 16" silver modulars.
  13. A quick question guys Will my 1995 300tdi Defender wheels fit a 1996 Disco Series 1, 2.5 TDI , the wheels and tyres on the Disco are 7J x 16 x 33.0 AHZ E-DOT. with stud PCD is 5 x 125 Cheers
  14. B) Me and my friend bought a Difflock drain plug each. My friend fitted his first, which he snapped as he tightened it ( using the torque setting supplied ), resulting in having to remove the sump to remove the broken part. They seem to be made out of a softish brass type metal. The other problem I could see is that once you have fitted it there is then a protective cap which screwes on, and this cap to my mind sticks out too far and is just asking to be knocked off and that would just be too much of a risk for me. I take your point regarding hitting the sump, but I think the original sump plug would stand a lot more. I suppose they are a good idea if your not planning to do any rough stuff as they do make the oil drainage a lot less messy but you are probably going to spill some from the filter anyway. IMHO.
  15. I would not recomend the Difflock drainplug as they are made out of too softer metal and it would only take one rock to hit the plug and hey presto all your engine oil out of your engine IMHO
  16. Now who's getting the winch out?
  17. Yep I've ordered one and I'll let you know if its any good when I get it. Andy.
  18. I have been running 235 wide BFG mud terrain tyres and have been impressed with the off and on road performance through the spring and summer. Last winter I was running BFG Track Edge which I think are a more all terrain tyre and they seemed ok on icy roads. Does anyone have an opinion on how the 'mud terrain' tyres perform on icy roads. My thoughts would be that maybe the 'all terrain' tyres would handle the ice better. What do you think? Andy. B)
  19. I use the old rubber glove method. On with the marigolds, grab a hold of the filter and hey presto! the filter should turn. In reply to the Difflock oil removal sump plug thingy, I wouldn't recomend using as they seem to be made from softish metal and when the protective cap is screwed on they stick out quite a way. So if you knocked one on a rock it could easily break resulting in completely loosing your engine oil. Nice!!!
  20. Yes a sad loss. I had no idea he was ill. All the best to his family and friends.
