  1. ok just been offered a 3.5 v8 and 5 speed box (including ecu's and pumps) out of range rover. The deal is a swop for my 200tdi.

I am hopping that it will mate up with my transfer box so I can keep the original props etc and just stick the new mounts where they need to go.

If at a later date will a bigger V8 mate to the box? any other advice you care to share?

  2. Depends what you're defining as obvious really.

fair comment, the more i think off it any advise will be helpful, I havent done this before.

so what engine and box should i be looking to buy? I dont have a problem moving the mounts or fabricating a section to mate with the exhaust.

Is there anything that will attach to my current box or not?

can you make the efi pump work with the current tank or is it as well to change tanks to?

I was hoping someone had done a built thread I could learn some info off but can't seem to find one.

    any advice gratefully received

  3. Hi.

I am hoping to change the engine in my 90 for a V8 shortly. I have done a search and carnt really find anything on the forum, at the minute im just looking for some reading to help me understand what needs to be done apart from the obvious so I can have everything ready before I start.

So does anyone know of any threads or personal experience they care to share?

Im going from 200 tdi to one of the 4l v8's and manual box

    Cheers

  4. Hi all.

I have a bit of problem with my overdrive at the minute. When I start the car I get a steady red light from the led on the gear stick for about 0.5 - 1 second then when driving and switching the overdrive on there is nothing the led stays out also when i try switching at low speed nothing either. I have had a look around and all the wires look ok.

Any ideas or pointers to where i should check?

    Cheers

  5. Bit of an update..

i cut some plate to size with the plasma. and puddle welded it as well as the edges

    25112008105.jpg

I did have good intentions to do it with the drill, to get nice round holes but soon got bored and just blasted them out with the plasma

    so it looks like this

    25112008109.jpg

managed to get the cross member cut out too

    25112008111.jpg

so there should be a rear winch in that hole by tea tomorrow.

everybody should own a V8 and a plasma cutter

  6. the 8274 standard remote switches the earth aswell as the live,

i had to put a permanent earth to the standard solenoids(simple wire from the earth on the bottom of the wire) then you just wire it like a normal solenoid to the carling switch.

    Ian

So if im reading this right, the unidentified wire just switches to earth? so if attach to the end of this wire and route to the earth on the motor?

    or am I being dumb?

  7. I want to wire my front 8274 winch for in cab controls using a carling switch.

on the solenoid pack and hand control there is 5 wires I have done the usual search and only come up with a 3 wire version.

after waving the multi meter around i found out the following

    there are

    red wire = earth

    white wire = 12v+

green wire?? I think winch in

brown wire?? I think winch out

    black wire??

I tried wiring without the unknown wire but no luck

any one shed some light on this for me.

    thanks

  8. after finishing my night shift and sat waiting for couriers till 12.00 I got into the garage about 12.30.

messed about with a few things then got to the main job of the day fitting the locking diff in the rear.

stripped it down spent ages trying to get the drivers side half shaft out and ended up making a puller out of threaded bar and some nuts behind the flange. god knows why it wouldnt come out.

Anyway built it back up, freezing cold and loosing the light got the prop back on, topped it up with new oil cleaned tools and put them away.

    job well done.......

nope went back into the garage to turn every thing off and saw the new paper gasket for the diff sat on the work bench :o:o:o

at least I know what im doing tomorrow

  9. hi.

I bought a deveon 4x4 winch tray like this one. It arrived today and when I lay under my truck and offered it up there was a big gap so much so im not going to be able to weld it into place.

Has any one bought and fitted one or any ideas how to make it work for the rear winch.

some pics against a spare cross member to give some idea, obviously im not going to weld it in where it is now.

the gap measures 16mm or 8mm a side

  10. well bit of an update.

My local supplier has invited me to come down tuesday next week, to spend the afternoon trying different sets out.

he has a few different makes butters, Thermal Arc, miller to name a few so should be a good chance for a play and sees what suits.

he said just bring you're mask

  11. We use sureterm also and have for the past 4 years . Not really had any bother with them.

Every year I ring the usual suspects for a quote and sureterm always seem to come up the best price

they dont blink at mods and even know what they are and for.

we pay £280 per year fully comp for the modded 200 tdi limeted to 1200 miles

  12. OK Guys, Thanks for youre input, I will have a bit more of a look around I think.

My budget is around £500 which I dont think is quiet enough.

I went down to my local retailer and had a look, and the butters did look a well made bit of kit.

    Thanks for your advise
