1. you only live in Redclfie area its not that bad

But there again it is the north side of the river :lol:

As you my tell i live in Cleveland ,On the south side of the river

If you get a detail enough map then the Garmin one does

And shows you compass and other stuff

No it isn't that bad nothing like Liverpool, where they would and often did steal the milk from your cup of tea!

I take it you use a Garmin they do seem good but how good under the cover of a rain forest or at the base of the glass hse mt's?

  2. I got a Garmin Legend for about $180 of ebay

Great for use on fraser and straddie and the like

Just have to get the right maps. Can be used to fine places

The other is OZ explorer which you put on laptop and then go and download or get the Full aussie maps on cd or the hema maps on cd and then the laptop (with a GPS mouse) will then plot you on the map as you drive. So easy for tracks and beaches

    Ali

Thanks Ali, I haven't got a laptop and wouldn't like leaving one in the car!

Whats the garmin one like? Does it show the tracks on Fraser or just give you a compass direction?

  3. Hi, I'm after a GPS unit that is going to be good on the roads but also good for getting away into the hills, forests and beaches, and is easy to operate.

Is there anyone on here thats got any experience of these units?

Any advise from someone using one would be great. Good and bad points.

    Thanks.

  4. No not inside the snorkel.... I worked for a while in the racing car world and there is a pneumatic pipe called decabon http://www.lister.co.uk/ecommerce/response...sport&id=12 ask for Andy Berry. This is aluminum tube with black plastic casing and is hand maliable (you can bend it and it stays).

This was run down the external surface of the snorkel, and tie wrapped in between it and the windscreen. This meant no holes in the roof!

Thats great. does seem a bit drastic though to drill hole through the roof? Anyone got any more ideas. Thanks again

I had a Disco with four front facing, two side facing and two rear facing lights, As it had a snorkel fitted, it made sense to run the wires down the back of the snorkel. I also had a set of relays and fuses on a custom made board.

I also put connectors on the roof so the rack could be removed and leave wires in place.

    and ...

    PART II

REQUIREMENTS RELATING TO OPTIONAL MAIN-BEAM HEADLAMPS

    • Any number may be fitted and the only requirements prescribed by these Regulations in respect of any which are fitted are those specified in paragraphs 7, 10 and 12(a) of Part I and, in the case of a motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1991, paragraph 5 of Part I.

When you say that you routed the wiring down the back of the snorkel, did you mean internally through the snorkel?

Thats cool! How exactly did you wire them? Fuse sizes and so?

  7. Hi All.

Has anyone got any diagrams of how to wire up driving lights to a Defender 110? I want to mount the lights on the roof rack in a forward position, any one with any ideas would be thanked!

I know I have seen a diagram on this site some where but for the life of me I can't find it again.

    Cheers for any Help.

  8. PM me with your email address and I'll send you the relevant pages from the manual - it's about 5 pages.

    Thanks alot for that Jim.

as I said I'm going to keep an eye on it for now and see if it makes itself better!!!!!!

There is alot in replacing the seals, from what you have sent, but more than likley I'll have to do it in the end.

    Thanks again Jim....

  9. Yes you can get a kit, it's very expensive as most of the time you only need the shaft seal. Get a Corteco OEM kit if you can. You will need a manual to take apart the box, the rave LR one is good enough. If you haven't got the manual, PM me with your e-mail address and I'll send you the relevant pages.

Hi jim, looking at the rave cd I can't find anything on replacing the seals! Do you have any info on this, the rave just tells you how to take it off.

Any info or an exploded view would be great.

Thanks, I have the rave manual so if the worst comes to the worst I will have to renew them.

Just seems strange that after moving the wheels to get at the swivel housings it started leaking quiet bad! Now it doesn't seem to be leaking! Strange. Ive put some cardboard under so I'll keep an eye on it...

    Thanks jim

  11. Turning with the engine off shouldn't hurt it, I've done it before and not had any damage, just blurdy hard to move 235x85s without PAS!

    Thanks for the replies.

it seems not to be leaking now so I'm going to keep an eye on it over the next day or so. If it is going to go I need to know before the next trip!

Can you get a new seal kit for the steering box's on a 110 defender 300Tdi 96? If so how hard to replace!

    Thanks again for the replies.

  12. Hi, has anyone an explanation for what has just happened to me /

I had a spare hour this morning (Sat) so decided to top up the swivel housings and to make it easy I turned the steering to gain access, did the first one no problem, doing the second one I noticed that some fluid was dripping out from by the steering box! low and behold the thing seems to be leaking.

For the record I turned the steering without starting the engine thus with no assistance from the power steering, could this have popped a seal or something?

    anyone had a similar experience?

    Thanks

  13. Hi Ted

If you want to get the performance & economy up go with New enlarged full-width intercooler (pump also needs slight adjusting) not only to get that performance but good economy - plus you find the motor runs cooler too

if you can get away with it - away with the EGR & more importantlly the CAT (pipes are cheap to source) blankers for the EGR are also easy to source.

small imporvements my be made by a K&N filter & even one of their induction kits

together with putting on a electric fan

    hope the info helps

    happy trails

    Abe

    Thanks for that!

What intercooler will fit bearing in mind its got A/Conditioning, also where would I source one! in OZ?

  14. Certainly doesn't sound right, on some vehicle there is a dimdip headlight system fitted which gives sidelights with headlights on at 10% of full power, these are to prevent the vehicle driving in towns/built up areas on sidelights only, my 1989 110CSW has this system fitted, seems yours has too.

    so

1st position -- side & dimdip headlights plus flash & main on indicator stalk

2nd position side & normal dip beam headlights & as above for flash & main

sidelights should come on when ignition off for side of road parking at night.

    hope that helps :D

Thanks, Ive now got to the bottom of it after driving down to redland bay to look at a roof rack when the lights failed in the middle of nowhere! After taking the light switch apart only to find that it had worn down the contacts so it was making contact with two contacts at once!!!

What a way to find out!!!!

  15. Ive been advised that its would be a good thing to take out the seals in the axles to allow lubrication from the diff to lubricate the wheel bearings at the same time, I believe this is what used to be on older Defenders / 110's / 109's! If this was the case why did Landrover change it to a dry greased unit seperate to the axle? And how often should you repack the bearings or should I have the seals taken out? Questions questions. I was just wondering the logic behind the improvement of greased wheel bearing over axle oiled bearings?

    Just wondering....

  16. And I'll try and find a pic of a typical one at work, though they mostly get dumped straight away

I'm guessing we noticed the first ones about five or six years ago, something like that, on the early 300Tdis - they usually go at about 5 years old.

Hi Bogmonster, I was just wondering if you had the pic's yet? Just to be sure, I can feel the cracks with my thumb nail but they are really hard to see!

  17. Hi, does anyone know if you can get a new brake booster as mine has split or cracked just by the two bolts (top & bottom) that bolt the master cylinder to the servo front unit, I've been told that this is a common problem with the servo units, so would assume that you can get hold of a new front servo unit?

    Thanks.
