  1. I would do as BogMonster says and test the alternator first, if that is okay then it could be anything so trial and error is probably the only way. There aren't too many fuses in the fuse box so it should be fairly quick to identify the circuit if it isn't the alternator.
  2. Why don't you simply put an ammeter in series with the battery output. This should show the apparent 0.5A drain current, or whatever it actually turns out to be. Then pull out each fuse, one at a time, replacing it if you see no change in the reading until you find the circuit which is causing the power drain. Then you can investigate further.
  3. We had exactly the same behaviour when we trailered our 300 Disco back from where we bought it. Its never done it when being driven just when it was on the trailer. Personally I think it was showing off 'cos it had its wheels up while the other Disco did all the work pulling the trailer
  4. There is a large community from the Lakes and North Lancs on lrboards.com We are going laning at the end of the month if you want to tag along.
  5. That problem is easily avoided by fitting a diode in series with the relay coil to avoid any backward current flow and ideally fitting a diode across the coil of the relay to act as a voltage clamp to stop spikes coming off the coil when the relay is opened. This is a standard procedure in electronic design.
  6. We have them on both our Discos and they work much better than standard ones. They even do a good job of removing dead flies etc.
  7. These are the ones I've used http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330379572120 They are much better than traditional ones
  8. They work great on the front! Just bought two for the backs of our two Discos but they only arrived today so not fitted them yet.
  9. Thanks, it was a ballpark figure I was looking for so thats good. I have absolutely no plans to make one when Gwyn has one already designed and available!
  10. How much is Gwyn selling the brackets for?
  11. I use one of these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dual-Battery-monitor-Dual-DC-Volt-meter-4wd-caravan_W0QQitemZ390095803406QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Gadgets?hash=item5ad385940e&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177 With their backlight off they consume about the same as the clock so can be left attached to the battery 24/7 which is great for monitoring the two batteries when they are disconected with the ignition off. its better than the LED type as you can see a definite number. You should run a pair of dedicated wires from each voltmeter directly to the battery terminals, they don't need to be huge capacity because the impedance of the voltmeter is high. This is the only way to accurately measure the voltage actually at the battery since connecting it elsewhere is susceptible to voltage drop on the wiring supplying both the voltmeter and accessories due the accessories themselves being turned on and loading the wiring.
  12. Ooh, I'm interested! What size are they?
  13. Its a sidewall puncture so not fixable sadly plus the tyre is wearing low on its tread too.
  14. Basically because one of the current back ones has got a slow puncture so needs changing sooner rather than later!
  15. Currently we have 235/85 tyres on one of our discoverys and I want to change to 265/75 however I don't want to buy 4 tyres in one go due to the expense! Can anyone see a problem running 235/85 on the front and 265/75 on the rear? The difference in diameter of the two tyres is only a couple of millimetres.
  16. Your last point is therefore irrelevant since all the frequencies that were being used were within the frequency range of both the receiver and the antenna. Your two points on overloading are fine but still do not explain the phenomena described, you missed out the fact the the primary receiver stages can act as a receiver in their own right if overloaded by a misstuned signal due to their non linear characteristics and hence provide a signal to the speaker that has been poorly decrypted but is still vaguely audible to the human ear and recogn isable as speech. This is fundamentaly the way that the original "cats whisker" radios worked with a simple diode being the non linear element. If CTCSS was in use then that might explain why two could talk together since that is the purpose of such a system, to exclude third parties from the link despite them being on the same channel.
  17. Not true! If you read the first post clearly then he says that he and one other could talk to each other and the other three could all talk to each other. If it was an aerial mismatch problem then at the short range of an offroad convoy even a severly mismatched antenna would work. SWR is simply a measure of your antenna's efficiency matched to your CB. It is a measure of the Standing Wave Ratio. Occasionaly he could just detect that the group of three were talking. This is not an aerial mismatch. It is most likely one of two options previously mentioned on this thread 1) The two groups were using diferent modulation ie AM and FM 2) The two groups were using different frequencies despite the rigs all saying Ch10. The close proximity of transmitters could easily overload the front end of a sensitive receiver ona different channel and hence the slight detection of others talking. Without trying the set against another known working example it may be difficult to resolve this one.
  18. The LARA website http://www.laragb.org/ still has it as being on the "warned" list and waiting for it to be heard in the courts. British Legal system is very, very slow!
  19. You are always welcome to come and join us and a few others on a green lane trip. We are in Morecambe and often lane in the Lakes and Yorkshire Dales. In fact, we are out playing tomorrow!
  20. Yes, it is a great bumper! Thanks for the info!
  21. Could I ask where you got the bumper from please? We have exactly the same one on one of our Discos, it came with the Disco when we bought it and I've searched loads of places to see where it originally came from. Thanks Tim
  22. Thanks for that, I'll order a new diode pack!
  23. My 200Tdi Disco has just done a weird one. When I parked up and turned off the ignition the charging warning light came on. This is with no keys in the ignition. If I turn on the ignition prior to starting then the oil warning light comes on but the charging light goes out? When I start the Disco all the lights go out as you would expect. Any ideas why the charging light looks like its working backwards? Thanks.
  24. Well Carl, I've tried to call loads of times and never an answer. I've left messages, no response. If you kept in touch then it would have helped us all understand where you are up to with things. Anyway, hopefully all this will be sorted by the end of January as you say above. I'm sure we all look forward to getting the goods we have already paid you for. Good to finally hear from you again!
