No, screw that - if you had a set of them and you managed to wear all 1/2" of tread in 24k miles then tell me about it. Can you give me more details than that please?

Hey guys, Can you help me? I am hopping across from one forum to another in order to do the following: There is a lot of information about tyres out on the interweb, but there is very little about tyre wear rates - which I think is something that would be of a great deal of importance if you are taking the time to choose what rubber to shod your wheels with! Here is what I am asking: If you can spare the time, and have the info, could you reply with the following: Your Tyre make & model (Remould Y/N) Your Tyre size Your Car Off road:On road ratio (i.e. 10:90, 40:60 etc...) Date installed (and removed*) New tread depth* Current tread Tyre life (actual or projected on wear rate) * If applicable or available Any input would be appreciated, try and keep it all reasonably accurate and perhaps we could get some interesting results! This is what we have so far:

Can either of you help out with another thread here? I am desperately trying to get more data on tyre wear. Thanks

Thanking you! Please come again.

Looking for recommendations for road tyres for a TD5 90
gavin. replied to gazelle's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Can any of you AT2 owners please have a look at this thread and share any info? Much obliged! -
Added, thank you. Where are all you General AT2, Cooper STT and ST and Goodyear Wrangler MT/R users (to name a few)?
-
Makes sense now! This is the sort of thing I am hoping on producing, except with more data, obviously!
-
Thanks sgnas, first datas! Here, have a cigar... Is that 1 mile on road for every 99 off road for a frontera on ATs?!
-
I'll be getting some new tyres at the end of the year so I will doing the same. I am hoping that there are a few people, somewhere, that can help out to get it started! The idea is to get some ball park figures published which people can use as a guide. There is a duplicate thread that I started on the tyre section of another popular 4x4 forum which should expand the sampling somewhat.

All: Some interest then. It sounds like we could make a day of this then! My wife and I are going away until the end of next week, but we could arrange a day following that. Does anyone have any date preferences after 17 Aug? Chris: I have read of a few pay-n-play sites around here, namely Baldhu and Wendron. But these are unconfirmed and I don't know of anyone who has used them and when they are open (I have contacted neither for details).

I have already ruined the paint work when on a lane in New Forest before we moved! I still haven't polished them out... I have managed to find 5 or 6 on the whole of the OS map that we can drive (after cross-checking with the online ROW on Cornwall Council website). Might have a look in a week or two!

Maybe it is just safer to underestimate my own abilities!
-
Do you have any photos of your winch set up? Mile Marker?
-
Does anyone know of any good green lanes in Cornwall? I have recently moved down here and keen to get out and do some greenlaning. I have noticed a few posts about Baldhu and Wendron pay and play sites; but I think they might be a bit much for my standard 90! Come on, any ideas? Anyone?!

I agree. It should be pink.
-
Checked, nothing there. It doesn't sound as "sharp" as a stone in the tyre.

Has anyone any experience with a clicking noise that isn't dependent on engine RPM? It is just noticeable at road speeds below 40 MPH at low engine speed. At first I thought it was valve clearances, but there seems to be no frequency variation with RPM. I have had a look at the rear prop and the UJs seem ok; they were greased in December, so could probably do with another application, but there was about 1/4 - 3/8" of axial movement on the prop (play in the transfer box and diff?) is that normal?! Any ideas? There is some evolution gear oil on the way from a certain online supplier of 4x4 consumables, so I'll see if that helps. Edit: Sorry, 300TDI - R380 and LT230

Do have a lift on that? Is there any rubbing on articulation? Cheers for that. What sort of wear rates have you experienced?
-
Does anyone know what size MT/Rs are fitted on to the G4 110s? The tyres on my 90 have about 3mm remaining and are on freestyles. I am thinking about a set of MTs this year but I am not too sure to go for 75s or 85s. I am err-ing towards 85s; has anyone got a photos or suggestions to help me make my mind up? I also want to get rid of my spare wheel cover and get a 5th alloy (hence wanting to find a breakers in the area in another post!)

Does that have any suspension? It seems there are three ways of going: Leaf - a la Sankey Torsion Bar - a la most trailer on the planet Fixed - a la, well, I don't know!

Needed a bit of TLC then!
