  1. Have a look at the swivel pin bearings and try and check the preload tension. I think its in the haynes manual somewhere. wizard
  2. I would back off the power screw by 1/4 of a turn first, if it still smokesa lot then adjust the smoke screw, but remember what you ahve do just incase you need to put it back again. wizard
  3. A Defender will be no cheaper to run than a Disco, but you might have a very unreliable Disco thats costing you a bomb on repairs. If you bought a Def you just might be buying a new bag of problems. A lot of LR owners go through the same thing. What seperates the men from the boys is, if your LR is costing you a fortune you can get rid of it, and buy a little Corsa or similar eurobox or stick with what you have and fix it (or buy another and keep on top of it) My own Disco used to give me tons of cr@p, i have spent over £10k on it and its only worth £1500 at best. madness you say, maybe so but now i have a truck that plays in the mud most weekends and takes me to work & back during the week. stick with it, it will be worth it in the end. Regards wizard
  4. When they say they will back the pump of, they mean they will restrict the amount of fuel going through the pump. By adjusting the power adjustment screw (undoing it a halfturn or so) you limit the amount of fuel being burnt, and therefore reduce your emissions. A few years ago my disco smoked like hell when it went for its MOT, i took the power screw out a whole turn and the Disco wouldn't rev over 3000rpm sailed through the emissions. Regards wizard
  5. I put on a Britpart one and it lasted 5 months. put on a genuine LR one and its been on for a few years now. Whats the bet it starts to leak next week !!! wizard
  6. When i put my on board air system together i tapped the original fitting to 1/4 bsp and used standard pneumatic fittings. The air coming out of the compressor is very hot so any fitting with plastic on will melt. The connection onto the compressor needs to be a brass or stainless fitting with a lenght of copper pipe leading to an air cooler or straight down to a tank. All the fittings after this can be standards pneumatic ones. wizard
  7. The gas in the compressor lubricates the compressor pistons, but i think the pully bearing is sealed. I had a go at changing one a while back, I was using it for my on board air system. I ended up distroying the front of the housing as the bearing is put in from the back of the compressor and locates in the front casing so if you try pulling the front pully off you end up ripping the bearing flange off. If you are going to strip it down i would recomend starting from the rear of the compressor and work forwards. It would be easier just to get another compressor. Regards wizard
  8. All the doors are identical in fiddlyness !!!!!!!!!!! If the spring hasnt broken it could be the actuating solenoid thats playing up. wizard
  9. I put a Britpart water pump on the Disco last year, it lasted 6 weeks.Got a replacement and thats been fine since. wizard
  10. Sounds like a good price. A recon engine will cost about 1K. So this will make a good off road toy, or you could strip it and sell the parts. wizard
  11. Hi Toger. Usually if you take a piece of pipe in they will cut it to size. Or most motor factors keep 90 and 45 deg bends etc in stock. Regards wizard
