  1. If you are after one for lamping buy a light force lamp, I've had mine for 7/8 years and never had a problem and it gets quite abit of use (lamping 2 or 3 nights a week). There is a good selection of different coloured filter's for them and you can buy a couple of different styles of roof mounted handle for them. With a 100w bulb in them they are great! Rich
  2. Thanks Tony, you've just saved him some time and money he was gonna buy a new box to try! Rich
  3. A mate of mine has recently bought a 300tdi 90, the power steering has gone stiff and it wont self centre. He's tried to blead the system to see if it made any difference and on right hand lock gets a good presurised flow of fluid but on left hand lock just gets a dribble of fluid. when driving if he goes round a corner he has to steer back to straight position as it wont self centre at all. All the steering bars are straight and the uj's on the collum seem ok so what is likely to be the cause the p/s box or the pump? Is there any thing else it could be? TIA Rich
  4. Hi It's filled with grease the same as in Diff's thread in the tech archive.
  5. I was unsure where to post so please move if necessary! Ive just completed an on board air system on my 90, I'm using an air con compressor, set up the same as the systems in the tech section but i've got a problem! the compressor gets realy hot quite quickly, after about 20 seconds of running its to hot to touch and will not fill the tank to any more than 50psi! I only bought the pump last week and was told it was good! I'm using 15mm internal bore pipe work, is this to restrictive? Is the pump shot? Any other ideas? How hot should the pump get when running? i've read the other threads where the preasure switch is set to cut the compressor out at 120psi but i cant even get to half of that figure!! so what do you fellas think before i go to the trouble of finding another pump and modifying the head again? Rich
  6. Thanks for the info i'll get the bits ordered and get it fixed. Rich
  7. The diesel injection pump on my 200tdi has developed a leak. It's coming from the shaft where the throttle linkage is mounted does any body know if this is simply a case of replacing the seal on the shaft or is a replacement pump job? thanks Rich
  8. Theres about 4" here this morning and its still falling hard, just been out to the 90 and the hand brake is stuck on. just my luck it was fine yesterday! Rich
  9. Hi all My father's got a 1998 1.8 freelander thats developed an alarm problem. When he locks it the alarm goes off, sometimes it takes 10 minutes before it starts going off and sometimes it takes 5 seconds but it always goes off and its driving him mad! he's resorted to disconecting the battery every time he parks it! There doesnt seem to be a problem with the central locking all the doors lock and unlock as they should and the imobiliser is working as normal. The car often spends time parked up during the winter maybe a month at a time with out being moved, Do freelanders suffer from damp problems with the electrics as it didnt have this problem before it was parked up the last time? Any help appreciated before he takes a hammer to it! Rich
  10. If you click on the link about other mod's the customer wanted at the bottom of the page where it says look here for details, its on that page that the tyres are 265/75's. Rich
  11. There is a thread in the tech archive listing the serial numbers and which ratio they are. Rich
  12. I've got a pipe bender like that one and as has been said above on thin walled steel it flattens or kinks it. On thick walled tube such as scaffold poles and gass/steam pipe its ok but not much else! Rich
  13. Did you have any luck solving this problem Steve? Ive got a 200tdi doing the same thing when it first starts there's so much smoke it looks like its on fire and miss fires! after its been reved a few times the smoke clears and it runs great. After reading this post and taking the advice offered to you i've changed the timing belt (it was a tooth out when i got the cover off) and i've changed the lift pump just in case it was that. It seems alot better now and goes alot better probably due to the timing now being right but still has abit of a miss fire and smoke when cold. On mine it feels like the diesel is draining back when its left and when it starts its bleading 2 cylinders, but i cant find any leaks and all the pipe fittings are tight? Did you have any sucsess sorting yours? Rich

  15. I did a tdi conversion on a N/A 90 about a year ago and did'nt know i had to change the fly wheel housing (was told the same as you was) ended up with the same problem as you have got, none of the bell housing bolts round the bottom would go in! i ended up taking the engine out again and swapping the fly wheel housing's over and that cured the problem. i did'nt make the same mistake this time! Rich
  16. Ive just put a disco 200 tdi into my 90 which was a TD with an LT77. I put the fly wheel housing off the TD engine onto the Tdi, its a straight swap and then all the bell housing bolts line up. Rich
  17. Its a straight swap i did the same thing on a 90 i had a while ago. Rich
  18. I'll give that a try, the new seal did seam very hard and was a bit of a struggle to get in. Perhaps i damaged it when i fitted it! Thanks for your help its appreciated Rich

  20. Hi all I've done a 200tdi conversion on my 90 and now the crank seal is leaking! When i changed the fly wheel housing from the 19j engine that came out of the 90 onto the 200tdi engine i fitted a new genuine crank seal and housing gasket from my local dealer, now my question is did i fit the right one?! The crank seal i fitted was for a 200tdi but should i have fitted a 19j one as that was the fly wheel housing i was using? is there a difference between a 19j one and a 200 one? also i'm running 255/85 16 BFG muds on the 90 would i gain anything gearing wise from fitting the transfer box from my donor discovery? thanks in advance for any help and may you all have a happy and prosperous new year! Rich
  21. Hi Matt I did the same conversion on a 110 i had, I put a 3.5 efi into it from a 1988 RRC. If you trace the efi loom back and strip it out you will find a plug under the dash near the steering collum this is the plug with 4 wires you need on it. There is a brown wire which is the main +12v feed for the efi harness and needs connecting to a permanent +12v live. There are some white wires (connected to the same terminal) these need connecting to a +12v ignition switched feed that has 0v when the engine is off and +12v when ignition key is in running and cranking positions. The white with red tracer is for the cranking signal and needs to be connected so it has +12v only when the key is in the cranking position. The white with purple tracer this is the fuel pump feed and needs to be connected to the positive side of fuel pump. This is how i wired mine and should be the same if you are using the same engine as i was. Rich
  22. Thanks for all your help First job in the morning is to check the earths then, might put another one on straight from the battery to see if that helps! Rich
  23. Hi all I finished a 200 tdi conversion on my 1988 90 (previously 19j) today, started it up all was fine and felt quite pleased with my self and then the problem came! I put the head lights on and bought the 90 out of the workshop to take it for a road test then noticed the light on the dash with the choke symbol on was glowing dimley (if i turn the lights off the choke light goes off) With the lights on if i rev the engine the choke light glows brighter and as the engine revs die down and return to tickover the headlights and dash lights go off for a second then come back on again this is accompanied by a clicking sound from behind the dials on the dash! I've checked any wiring that i have moved but found nothing unusual and the 90 didnt have the problem before i changed the engine! Has any body experenced this before or does anyone know what the problem could be? any help or advice greatfull received as i want to get my 90 back on (and off!) road having fun! Happy new year to you all Rich
  24. I've bought some joints and boots and miss alignment spacers from Mc Gill for a suspension project and they seem very good. When i ordered them the chap i spoke to said they supply the same joints to the williams F1 team. The service is excellent and their prices are good and everything arrives next day. Rich
