  1. Ok thanks for the info i've been trying 3 or 4 timed a day and thought it strange that there was no answer, i'll keep trying!
  2. Can anyone tell me if Tomcat motorsport have changed their phone number? I've been trying to contact them for over a week about some seats for my tomcat but get no answer, and no reply to email. Are they still trading?
  3. I've got one of the Sealey Yankee 2ton engine lifts, easily lifts engines and gearbox's out as one lump and has 6 wheels instead of 4 which makes it more stable and easier to move when folded. I also use it for lifting landys onto tall axle stands to do axle changes and welding underneath etc, I bought it from a local agricultural equipment supplier on one of Sealey's offers for £160, well worth checking out the special offer leaflets and local suppliers to see whats available.
  4. have a look at Alan Kemps portalcat build its fitted with disco2 arms http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopi...p;hl=portal+cat
  5. I've been in touch with them but they haven't got any and don't know when they will. The size is the problem for me, i can get Fedima trial aid which are about the same tread pattern but they dont do them in a 265/75 16.
  6. Does anyone know of a supplier of Colway anaconda tires? I've read that they are back in buisness after going bust back it 2007 but after doing some searching i cant find any suppliers and i need a couple to make a full set. TIA
  7. I've got an 88 inch Bowler Tomcat that i've bought to rebuild for P&P days instead of using my Rangy which is my every day motor. I've bought a tdi Discovery to use as a donor for the project but now cant decide weather to fit the engine/gearbox's and axels etc to the tomcat and keep it 88" or cut the frame off the tomcat and fit that to the disco chassis so its 100".It will only be used off road and not made road legal. Can anyone tell me the benefits or their experience of either wheelbase off road? Will i run into problems with the rear prop being to short for good articulation if i keep it 88"? Also if i move the radiator to the back what do i do about the oil cooler? Any help is appreciated as it's driving me mad trying to decide!!
  8. Got about 3 inches here and just had a call from the boss to say have a day off so thats a result!!
  9. It is fitted with a torque converter which is why you can leave it in gear on the main gear stick then push the shuttle leaver to move forwarns/backwards , i was just explaning the changing gear.
  10. The system Sam mentioned on the JCB works as an electrically opperated clutch, you push the button on the gear knob then change gear on the stick and release the button, the clutch or "dump" pedal has a micro switch to do the same instead of a cable or hydraulic system.
  11. JCB wheeled diggers (2CX,3CX,4CX) telehandlers, loading shovels and most modern forward tip dumpers (Terex,Benford etc) use the same system. Maybe you could find a parts diagram for one of these on the internet somewhere to see whats involved?
  12. Bigdon1981 has got a safari guard 3 link kit for sale on ORRP if its of any interest to you? Rich
  13. Just had another look and the timing is spot on but on closer inspection 4 valve stem seals have come off and moved up the valve stems so that must be where compression is being lost and the noise is coming from. Checked the top of the valves with a straight edge and all of them meet the straight edge with no gaps. Thanks for all the help so far it realy is appreciated!
  14. yes definatly turned clockwise to keep any slack in the belt on the tensioner side. I'll take the head off in the morning and have a look at the valves, hope the head isnt buggered!! I've got another 200tdi here with a hole in the block but the head's got little crack's between the valves on 2 cylinders!
  15. I'll check the timing again in the morning, When i set it i rotated the crank twice then checked the marks/pin in the pump again then repeated this several times just to be sure. The noise seems to be coming from the intake/exhaust manifold area. Thanks for the help so far!
  16. I checked the timing 3 or 4 times to make sure it was right. Yes there was smoke when i was trying to start it.
  17. Yes i set them using the spec in haynes manual
  18. Well i replaced the belt, rockers and pushrods today (found the valve caps in the springs thanks Les) tried to start it and it would'nt start, checked the timing etc and still wont start. There is a chuffing noise when its turning over that wasn't there before the belt snapped! Has anyone got any sugestions what this could be? thanks
  19. The timing belt snapped on my 200tdi this afternoon (1 broken rocker, 6 bent push rods) i've got the rocker shaft off of the head and realised 2 of the caps off the end of the valves are missing. Where are they likley to be and whats the situation if they have gone in a pushrod tube or oil way?? I think i know the answer but want to make sure before i start taking the rest of the engine to bits! TIA
  20. It's probably the rear crank seal
  21. Thanks for all the reply's i think i'm gonna try and find a rangy efi auto and use that as a donor for engine/box for the tomcat instead of refitting the 66. It's an 88" at the moment but i'm gonna move the axle so it's a 100". I haven't got any photo's at the moment but will get some next time i'm near it. The one i have bought has a 3.5 v8 with a holly carb and manifold fitted and the number 118 on the side. Rich
  22. I've recently bought a Tomcat with a v8 in it,when i picked it up the fella gave me the gearbox that was originally fitted to it which is a borg warner type 66 auto. Now i know nothing about autos so my question is are they a strong box and is it worth while refitting it? If i do refit it i'll have to change the transfer box as the one thats on it has apparently had a rebuild by Ashcrofts and had the ratio's changed for comp safari competition (i'm gonna use the tomcat for play days etc) The previous owner claims the ratio is so high the tomcat would do 70mph in low box! So what do you think,is it worth the hastle finding a t/f box and refitting or fit a ZF instead? TIA Rich
  23. Will a 200tdi front prop fit a 300tdi? A mate has just rang his front prop has come apart on his 300tdi disco (uj broke), i've got a good 200tdi disco one spare will it fit? Rich
  24. When i insured mine recently i was given the discount for being a member of this forum as i'm not a member of an owners club. Rich
  25. I've just bought a discovery on a k plate with 264k on it and it drives great. I bought it off a fella with the intention of breaking it but because it was taxed and tested till september i've been using it, Its nice to have abit of comfort after using a lifted 90 every day (even the air con works!). I've had a good look round it and the only bit of rot i can see is the boot floor, so i'm thinking about replacing the floor putting 12months test on it and keeping it on the road. And to top it off i only gave £200 for it! Rich
