  1. I'll try that if it ever stops raining long enough ! Had a word with 'herself' and we agreed to get the big one !! Going to order it now before we change our minds.
  2. Wasn't sure where to post a topic on lighting, sorry but here goes. My Defender came with a set of spots fitted to a roof bar whcih I removed pretty sharpish. The lights were not even wired and have no bulbs or 'tails'. By tails I mean the connecting wires and rubber grommet. Heres a pic of the lights and another of the back showing the grommet-less hole. I have some big 8" Ring lights on the A bar too which I want to replace with some new 6" ones, is there a place that will supply all this for me ?
  3. Thanks for your help. I will probably go for the cheaper , slower model. It should be enough for my needs. Then again I just need to sort out the correct pressure now, the tyres are BFG T/A, LT 265/75R16 It says the max pressure is 65psi but I am running them at 44 on the road but I think this is more than most people ?
  4. Seen a few big air compressors in LRO magazine and wondered if I need such a thing. Just been using the Morrisons petrol station one, filling up my BFG's for the first time and it took bloody ages ! I wonder if this sort of thing would suffice ? I would like to drop the pressure for offroad and then take it up again for the tarmac.
  5. Only just got the chance to have another look and with the drivers floor panel bolts corroded and immovable I once again removed the tunnel. Now with a better idea of where it was I found it straight away Turned out that the cable had come loose so I re attached it and hey presto, I now have a diff warning light. I could not locate the Hi/low switch buit also wonder if there's even a light for such a thing ?
  6. Posted the link at the video shack section.
  7. Had a great day out, went around the 'Adventure Course' three times, got caught out on a hill that the L200's managed, although I don't think they saw me ! Just my inexperience or the diff lock wasn't actually on ! Went back and did the same hill three more times to make sure I could do it Three of the L200's went in the zone too, there was a lot of banging of chassis on rocks. I was really impressed with the Defender, it managed things I thought were impossible ! I have some footage of the adventure course to go on the Tube soon, but none of 'The Zone' I'm afraid. This is where we went.
  8. Aye, I'm pretty sure its ATF, and there's plenty in the gearbox.
  9. Thanks lads, looking forward to it
  10. I'm taking the Defender to a commercial offroad driving venue this Saturday. I phoned to book and was told that the L200 club are attending on that day but I am still welcome. I have driven various models of military land rovers offroad in the 1990's so have a bit of a clue what I am doing. Will the Defender 90 be bullied by a squad of L200's or will she put them all in their place ?
  11. Whilst fitting the new fuel tank I noticed these drops. Seems to be between the gearbox and transfer box. I topped up the transfer box and it took almost a litre of oil. Checked all the bolts I could get to, any idea where it might be coming from ? I'm going to check main gearbox oil today, if I can get the plug off. Ah yes, the picture ! I have now removed the filler plug for the main gearbox and it came out immediately and looks like the same oil, I don't know how they got so much in !
  12. Looks OK now, although I'm not sure I got the pick up seal tight enough, quite hard to get at two of the screws. Got a wee 'allen' headed screw from an old riflescope for the return seal and got it lovely and tight.
  13. Cheers, makes me feel a wee bit better. New one is on the way, tracking it on Parcelforce website
  14. We noticed a diesel leak from the tank area last week after a fill up so I immediately emptied out 20l into a jerrycan, the leak eventually subsided. It appeared to be coming from the seam at the rear of the tank. I checked the out and in pipes at the top of the tank after returning from a drive just to rule them out. I ordered a new one and removed the old one in my days off, expecting to fit the new one in my next days off. We filled the old one with water just to get a decent look at the site of the leak, but we cannot see any sign of a £$**? leak ! I am starting to think it must have been where the filler hose meets the tank !
  15. Ah, just back. Got two Drapers for £4, in case one goes missing
  16. Aye, it seems that one job often leads to another with a Land Rover. The reason I looked at the battery was that the offroad place stipulates that you must 'ensure your battery is tied down securely'.
  17. Hint noted. I am currently in the position of having drained the fuel tank in order to replace it, but I need to borrow a car to go and buy a 13mm ring spanner as my one has vanished !
  18. Thanks for the info, I will take it off to have a look at it. There are pieces of the battery clamp lying about under the seat ! Looks like I will have to start from scratch I think, supposed to be offroad a week Saturday and want it all clamped and insulated for then.
  19. I was told there was an isolator for the winch when I bough the Defender and sure enough I found it. One end was attached to the ground and the other wasn't attached. I removed it and took this photo. WARNING. The next bit is quite technical with some advanced electrical terminology being used. The bottom right shows a thick black cable coming in and joining onto a 'thingy' with three squares on it, which is joined to the positive terminal. The thick black wire is the live feed to the winch. 1. Should I bolt the isolation switch between the thick black wire and the thingy ? 2. What is the thingy ?
  20. Sometime in the next few weeks I'm going to do the oil and filters on the Defender, you get a sealing washer for the engine sump plug with the kits and that's fine. I also plan to do the front and rear diff oil and the transfer box, do I need a new washers for these and where do I get them ?
  21. Defender 90 200tdi 1993, LT230t ? After swapping bulbs for the diff lock warning light and ruling that out as the problem I uncovered the transfer box and had a look. With the help of the Haynes manual I was unable to find said switch and after much chin scratching I covered up the transfer box and had a cup of tea. I managed to snap these from the middle seat floor panel. Can someone guide me to the switch, maybe it's in the photo !!
  22. Aye, mine is still off and I'm wondering if it's worth replacing it, maybe it keeps carp off the radiator ? BTW, I manged a cut finger and a bump on the head whilst putting the belts on, had on the latex gloves and saw this on removal !!
