  1. Ah, thanks for that. My brain hadn't thought that far ahead I have just looked through my photo's to see what you mean. Looks like I need to buy another torque wrench Thank you for the heads up on that. Saved me from a huge headache.
  2. Thanks. I thought there were only 3 bolts on top?
  3. Have you tried putting a little bit of grease on it when you put it in? Or are you doing the nuts up to the right torque setting? Try using something like engine degreaser or carb cleaner and make sure the surfaces that contact the P gasket are thoroughly clean. I am not an expert but hope this helps.
  4. The less non technical the better I am guessing that it is too complicated to combine the 2 for someone like me.
  5. A nice person from this club has offered me a gearbox from a V8 and has said that I would need to fit my bell housing in order to make it fit. I have never heard of this before, Is this right? Will a V8 Discovery Automatic Gear Box fit a Discovery TDi Auto with the Bell Housing Changed? This question is about the 300 Shape (1994-1998) Model. Cheersl
  6. I am wanting to replace my rocker gasket and I don't know if it is because I am getting frustrated or what, but I have read both Manuals I have for the Discovery and can't find any information on the correct torque setting for the rocker gasket. I have a 1996 Discovery TDi Auto. Does anyone know the torque setting for the rocker gasket please?
  7. The plan is, going to take a chance on an oil change for now and hope for the best. At least if it decides to play ball for now it will give me a breather from repairs. I did contact Ashcrofts and was quoted over £1400 including a £750 retainer that will be refunded once the old unit is delivered to them.
  8. I couldn't find any more information on the genuine part, but it would be very easy to buy an aftermarket level sensor off of somewhere like Ebay and retrofit it to your car with an led light mounted in the cabin somewhere.
  9. As some people who read this post may know from my other posts, I am having slight problems with my Gearbox. I am currently waiting for the correct bell housing bung to come, but the question is: Are the clutches for the Automatic Gearboxes available to buy separately? Or Are they a built in part of the Gearbox itself? My Discovery is a 1996 TDi Auto. Cheers.
  10. The part I ordered was for the bell housing but wasn't the right one. Typical. I will have to look over the bits above again and see if I can get the right part this time.
  11. I didn't think of that, but since the Radiator was fitted the car hasn't been run or driven. And there is a very small amount of oil in it still luckily.
  12. I wouldn't have thought the gearbox would be affected just by the car sitting in park, but the engine temperature gauge reached the normal running temperature I used to achieve when driving it for a while when I tried the heating.
  13. I have a receipt with my car that shows that the car had a new heater matrix a few months ago, the heating was working but if it was put on full and hot the engine temperature would drop and the heating would go luke warm. My radiator was then replaced with a few pipes, and as part of it as a precaution I had the thermostat changed, however when the thermostat housing was taken apart, there was no thermostat inside. So the new one was fitted, the cooling system was flushed without the engine running and the mechanic went off home. I left the Discovery on tickover for a while, the temperature gauge rose but when I put the heating on, it felt like Ice Cold Air Conditioning was on. I don't have air con in my Discovery. Could this be an air lock?
  14. What Year Discovery are you looking for? Air Bag Suspensions are usually replaced with spring conversions because either the compressor or the air bags on the suspension fail and that results in a really huge repair bill. It is cheaper to have springs. If you are looking for an auto check that the gears are all smooth, try the transfer box out too. Check the steering for play, if you are looking at manual make sure that the gears all go in smoothly and that the clutch bites near the middle. Check the wiper motor on the front particularly the intermittent function. (This is based on a 300 model), make sure the gearbox has its level check plug in it. I viewed a few with a mechanic and found that they were missing in most of them. Check the sunroofs for leaks, And of you are looking at the MK2 the only things I am really aware of is the Chassis are very prone to rotting. All the above is from learning from personal mistakes and is to the best of my knowledge. Hopefully someone else will come in and help with this too. Also factor in to your budget the cost of a full major service including gearbox, transfer and axle oils. Try and find something with goo service history.
  15. Thanks Muddy. I have now ordered them. They came to just under £37 and am being taken to collect them on Thursday by the mechanic. The gearbox oil turned up today so at least that is hear, The gear box bell housing bung has been ordered too, my mechanic was supposed to buy one but couldn't locate a company with one, so what started out as £3.03 turned into £11.98 from brit-car to have one delivered on a 24 hour courier jobby, So will turn up on the day of the work. Fingers crossed that the gear box is ok.
  16. Is there just 2 pipes that are cooler to gearbox or are they in 2 parts? Do I need 4 pipes?
  17. Yes I believe it is the bell housing plug. I sent over the links I was given in the part number request thread and he identified the Bell Housing Plug part number RTC4335. I have no idea how it ended up missing as it was there when I bought the Discovery.
  18. You did help, and I really appreciate it. I am amazed that you managed to locate the part I needed from the dodgy info I gave
  19. RTC4335 is the part number of the bung that has gone.
  20. It was item 8 in the last set of links. Thank you. Part Number RTC4335
  21. Thanks Western. I should have asked my mechanic to take a photo. He has agreed to source the part for me now.
  22. It fits the main gearbox. It holds the oil in.
  23. Hi, please could I have the part number for a bung for my 1996 Land Rover Discovery 1 2.5TDi Automatic? Cheers.
  24. Problem Found, My Gearbox Bung has vanished The Cooling Pipes appear to be fine. Now waiting for the gearbox oil to come and will be ordering the bung over the phone in the morning.
