  1. I can't find any info about the sensor mod but am very interested. Please could you tell me more? Also looks like the water leak was just me being paranoid lol.

What year and engine has your Freelander got?
  3. A lot of people on here know I have spent a crazy amount on my Freelander 1.8 which now has a replacement engine with a warranty on it, however I think there is a possibility that my car is losing coolant again. Only a very very tiny amount. It may be the way I have parked, but not sure. Anyway what I want to ask is: The cap that goes on the expansion bottle does up tight and then clicks and loosens itself slightly without it unscrewing but on the old tank the cap screwed on tight. Is my expansion cap supposed to do this? Or do I need to find a replacement cap? Cheers.
  4. Your best bet is to contact Haynes directly and ask them as I am sure there will be one out soon. But I had this problem when I had my MK2 Galaxy and contacted them directly and got given the release date and bought one the day it was released. They are really friendly and helpful at Haynes.
  5. Still interested to see what the results are of putting this in a K Series engine. But I am tapped out of cash after spending just over £2500 buying and repairing my car lol But I am happy to stick with standard anti freeze for now.
  6. It's a possibility that water may have got onto the electric components or possibly simple as plug coming loose. But glad you managed to get your dog out. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge will be able to help you. Hope you manage to get it sorted.
  7. If you manage to open the boot window on the remote or via the battery, after you have got the dog out, put the key in the lock of the boot door itself and hold the key turned and that will close the boot window again.
  8. Also try holding the unlock button down on your remote.
  9. Have you checked the fuses? The other thing might be to take the handle off of the boot. Try locking and unlocking the car, maybe press the unlock button several times and try the door again? The other thing to try is there is a safety feature built in to the car where if you disconnect the battery and reconnect it the boot window is supposed automatically open. Try the battery thing first. I know it works on my mine. Good Luck.
  10. I have had this problem in standard rover cars and older Fords, 9 times out of 10 it is just a mesh syncro. The Ford I am borrowing at the moment has the same problem. And my Freelander does it every so often. What I found was if you are on level ground, don't keep your foot on the brake but let the car sit free and select reverse obviously still using the clutch. Unless there are other symptoms to this problem like clutch biting quite high, or try cruising at 50 in 5th gear and then floor the accelerator and if the revs go up faster than the speedo then your clutch is knackered.
  11. I dried the interior out as best as I could using an oil heater with a very long extension lead running from my house. And now the car is parked up in a yard down the road, the front seats will get soaked everytime it rains, so will be interesting to see if the boot floor is wet again after it has rained. The sides of the floor wasn't completely dry though when I took the heater out.
  12. They said on the programme that this stuff runs cooler than normal coolant though.
  13. Thanks LiamC, That has saved me near enough 50% of what I thought I was going to have to pay. I bought a Dayco cambelt for £17.50 delivered.
  14. I know a lot of you reading this post will have seen the troubles I am having with dodgy repairs from a garage charging top money and me forking out more money, this time replacing the engine completely for another unit which comes with a guarantee. But the engine doesn't come with a new cambelt kit, My current engine had a complete cambelt kit replaced on it so am re-using the tensioner, but am struggling to decide on which cambelt I should buy. I have seen plenty of cheapies out there with no brand names at all so will not touch them, but the brand I trust (Contitech) Is quite expensive. What brand would you recommend? Has anyone had any issues with new belts? If so what brands and where from? Cheers.
  15. The replacement head is in worse condition than my current one, so it is going back with my Mum for a FULL refund. I have thought long and hard about it and although I ordered all the parts and have even bought genuine land rover heater matrix pipes I am not confident enough to take this job on. The stress of the situation has made me very very ill. I went back to the garage who did the repair with my Mum and have now left everything in her hands, I am now back driving the Escort Van I used before, and the Garage are repairing the car for more money in there hands. I felt that no choice now as the car was getting worse while using it, The Freelander may end up with a replacement engine but that will still have a new head gasket fitted with other parts that were fitted to the original one ending up on the new one. Apart from the engine or head, I am still supplying ALL the parts for the job right down to the oil and oil filters. I am not happy about the situation but it will mean I will be back on the road sooner. My Mum will be paying the repair bill in instalments, and then starting in January, I start monthly payments back to my Mum. My Freelander has now cost a total of £2400 so far including current upcoming repair bill although may go a bit further.
  16. The story they gave my Mum when she picked it up was, the guys sister bought a Freelander with blown head gasket that had over heated and warped the head, apparently they bought this head for £300 and fitted it, but there was a nasty noise coming from the top end of the engine (This was told to my Mum AFTER I arranged for her to collect and pay for it). But basically because the nasty noise they took the head off and scrapped the car but it didn't even get up to temperature for the first time when it was fitted. I hope that I have not just been ripped off again. I wasn't told anything about this nasty noise issue with the head before it was collected and my Mum didn't say anything about this until about 4 hours after she collected it already. Fingers crossed it's ok.
  17. I ordered the Reisse gasket set. The whole kit and even ordered a new water pump although the water pump on it is new but can't seem to get the water pump seals on there own anymore A set of Ford Alloys I refurbished sold, so that helped with the parts budget a big bit and then my Mum has lent me the rest I hate having to ask to borrow money off my Mum. Now just trying to find the heater matrix pipes and then see if I can get a friend to help me sooner rather than later as the car started running like a bag of carp today. I took the oil cap off and left it off while I went into the supermarket and by the time I got back, a good amount of the water in the oil had evaporated and I cleaned the cap and put it back on and it ran as sweet as, but the coolant goes down quicker of the heating is used, so just open the windows and freeze now
  18. Now I have finally started to get myself organised for Head Gasket number 4 on my Freelander! This time I am doing it with the help of a good mate, or should say my good mate will be doing it with my help. I was going to change the engine, but have now got my hands on a ready to use skimmed and tested head thanks to a very kind stranger who has sold it to me at £85 which is what it cost them. I am going to get the block skimmed this time, I have no idea what work is involved. But what do I need to buy now? Can I just re use all of the gaskets that were fitted by the garage? Obviously apart from the Head Gasket itself. What is the best brand MLS head gasket to use? All advice and help fully appreciated. Cheers.
  19. I know it has been a while since I posted on here but I have been ill and had a lot going on. Here is a picture of the plug I am on about.
  20. Thanks LR NUT. The problem with my spotlights, is the lenses aren't clear lol. They are whiteish.
  21. Thanks western, that confuses me more lol. I know that the Fog lights take H11 bulbs but I am after the bulbs for the Spot Lights.
  22. I know this is another daft question. But what bulbs do my spotlights take? I have circled the lights I am on about with red circles in the picture below.
  23. I will try and find a spare minute Friday and get a photo.
  24. I noticed that my Hill descent light wasn't coming on when I put the gear lever in the on position, So I pulled the gaiter up and found the wires had corroded themselves off of the plug itself which is still plugged into the gear leaver lol. Apart from going to a scrappy and getting one, where could I get a new plug from. I am after the male plug that goes from the car wiring to the gear hill descent switch lever. Cheers
