  1. Thanks Errol. Have ordered a multimeter so when that arrives may be back for some more guidance (I did say my electrical skills non existent!) I know which 3 way connector you're referring to as I've cleaned that up/checked connection etc. BUT, for the benefit of someone who has never used a multimeter(!) exactly which leads should I be connecting where to do what you have described below? Sorry... complete ametuer here
  2. Thanks Chris, How much did you pay for it if you dont mind me asking? Did you get Whitbread to fit it? Thats what im thinking of but its a hell of a trip from here in Midlands.
  3. Thanks Nige. My electrical skills are non existent. I have checked the fuse in the fusebox below dash. Fuse in there was 20AMP (Im sure the diagram says it should be 10AMP). Anyway, it had blown so I replaced with 15AMP (all I had to hand at that moment) and blower still didnt work (although fuse didnt blow). I will get an appropriate 10AMP to replace permanently but I fear this is not the source of problem. Where next on the electrical hunt? I feel the purchase of a multimeter coming on.
  4. Green laning and the occasional pay and play - nothing too serious. Not bought a cage before so a bit unsure what to look for and what price I should be paying.
  5. Does anybody here have any experience of this roll cage from Whitbread? - http://www.whitbread-offroad.co.uk/roll_cage_green_lane_truck_cab.php I really like the look of it but would love to hear some thoughts/opinions from others including whether there are similar alternatives on the market.
  6. Hi, My blower motor has stopped working (even on high speed without using resistor). Having read all the past posts on this I have checked: duct and drain hole in woing - was full of 1" of muck and as hard as concrete but now all cleared electrical connections - seem fine, have cleaned and WD40'd mechanical levers - both seem to be operating the levers on the heater box absolutely fine I have checked whether I can spin the fan using my hand in the wing. I can but I certainly wouldnt call it "free" (eg: its not like spinning a bicycle wheel upside down) however I wouldnt call it "stiff" either, could move fairly easily with a couple of fingers. Judging by this do you think I have a knackered motor or does motor sound ok?? Thanks, Dan
  7. I'm looking for a roll cage for the first time for my 90 truck cab. Only do green laning and occasional pay and play so it doesnt need to be bomb proof but something to give a bit of security and something that will be effective if ever put to the test. I really like the look of the "green lane truck cab cage" offered by Whitbread mainly because it doesnt take up room in the bed. http://www.whitbread-offroad.co.uk/roll_cage_green_lane_truck_cab.php Anyone any experience with these / views? I cant weld so be looking to buy it fitted. Does the above seem reasonable price? Any alternative suggestions out there? - I know there are LOADS of cages on offer but I basically want to spend as little as possible whilst getting something that will do the job if I ever need it.
  8. Having replaced winch motor I'm looking for an easy solution to heatshrinking the cable terminals on top of motor. I have tried standard heatshrink tubing a number of times with very little success. Clearly the problem is trying to use straight tube to cover an angled area (cable coming in straight then taking a 90deg turn onto the bolt terminal). Obvious answer would seem like a "boot" shaped heatshrink product but cant find any - do they exist/where would you find them??? Any different and more interesting ideas more than welcomed.....
  9. Here are a couple of pics with the motor casing removed which may help. Still in joy in separating the motor from drum. Any ideas? Having looked on fleabay for a replacement motor I'm starting to wonder whether I will be able to replace with a decent motor like Goodwinch or whether I will need to replace that whole side with this kind of cheapo replacement available on ebay.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/12000lbs-13000lbs-Recovery-Winch-Motor_W0QQitemZ310181368765QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Recovery_Tools?hash=item48384013bd

  11. Hi, I've finally got around to replacing my dead winch motor (its an ebay special 12,000lb jobby.... I know about quality but this came with the truck and I cant afford to replace with a proper winch)... although may consider replacing the motor with a Goodwinch motor once I ascertain whether one would fit. Anyway...before I can do that I need to get it off. I have removed the motor casing and exposed the coil but it doesnt want to pull out from the drum. Am I missing something? Thanks Dan
  12. Its a 12,000lb fleabay job. Althought not branded "Winchmax" (and not orange) otherwise it look identical to this (although 12V)........ http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRIC-WINCH-24V-R...%3A1%7C294%3A50 Solenoid pack has been safely relocated up inside the wing so shouldnt be a problem there. Winch had been in and out of water all day (as usual) however during the first (and last) pull of the day me vehicle (and therefore the winch) was on dry ground but pulling a dead weight disco through c20m of axle deep mud (therefore very muddy synthetic rope). It kept on pulling as far as I wanted it to but then would reel in next time I pressed it.
  13. Thanks Les, I've just realised how much of my bracket is missing!.... another bodge job it will be I imagine.
  14. my fleabay winch gave up the ghost after a very long pull last weekend. here are the symptonms: drum doesn't move when trying to power in or out However power is definitely getting there etc (as can here the noise of solenoid clicking) clutch will move but very stiff cant pull rope out either. .....any ideas folks? many thanks
  15. Hi, the rear exhaust hanger/bracket on my 90 Truck Cab has been bodged many many times (and not just by me!!)... its finally completely disappeared after last weekends offroading and I need to rebuild. does anyone have a photo/diagram of what it should look like rather than me doing another bodge job from scratch? thanks
  16. Simon R, GBMUD, Dalai Lama & Jennifer, Geoff & Erica - pleased to be in your group and look forward to meeting you Fri/Sat I'm currently running without a CB - is one advisable for the trip? busy week ahead so may have trouble sourcing and fitting by friday night
  17. thanks both. western - does the guard have any purpose?? also - do you happen to know spanner size? (truck is elsewhere and dont want to take my whole kit)
  18. my power steering is sometimes very stiff (usually with the steering dead central, no turn on). fluid looks ok and i replaced pump not long ago. Looking underneath I noticed that the track rod (i think) is VERY close (if not rubbing) on the top of the small guard that extends down off the front diff. would this cause the steering to be stiff? if so what might have caused it to come closer to the guard?
  19. I'm now booked in the QH for next weekend. This will be my first forum trip and at the moment I don't know anyone so please add me to a group! I might be getting up to Ashbourne late on Friday evening - if so what time will everyone be meeting on Saturday morning in the car park?
  20. i have a set of Insa Turbo Dakar's - not quite as aggresive as the Special Tracks but still pretty good grip and not horrible on the road. that said, when these die I will be swapping for Special Tracks. most of my time is a pay and plays though.
  21. if its just for occasional use then i would go for a credit crunch cheapy.... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ELECTRIC-WINCH-24V-R...A1%7C240%3A1318 couple of hundred quid and your sorted, add a hundred for a decent synthetic rope and another 150 for a good winch bumper. dont forget a cut off switch on the live wire
  22. https://www.solidworks.co.uk/ its owned by a big French software house... Dassault Systemes havent looked through myself but i do know someone who works in a sister company so let me know if you have any problems buying a copy
  23. Hi, I'd love to come but would be my first forum trip and seen talk of 'groups' - I dont actually know anyone from the forum - is this a problem?
  24. saying that.... im putting a cut off switch to winch on front of battery box so only chance of a short would be while im actually using the thing
