  1. OilIT the swivel is leaking grease, i have always planned to put the disco front axle onto the 90 in an earlier post i found that the tie bar and track rod bar where damaged while off roading, i have a new tie bar and track rod bar, what i am worried about is these will now not fit when i remove the 90 axle and fit the disco axle, if you can see what i mean? ives
  2. Any body help with this question? ives
  3. Hello as i have just found the damged tie bar and track rods, i have also been told the drivers swivel is also damaged, however i have a spare disco 200tdi axle so if i fit the disco 200tdi axle into my landy 90 will all the 90 bits ie the track rod bar, tie bar (new 90 one) and steering damper fit?????? many thanks ives
  4. Hello Bushwacker as u know i have just finished changing the engine in my 90 from 2.5td to the 200tdi and i really really notice the difference, just far better to drive. on a different note where u out last weekend, that son in law of mine ended up damaging the tie bar on the steering on Greengrass, phoned me as the steering was wandering, see other post on this forum Ives
  5. Hello just had the son in law lay under the 90 with the telephone to his ear and explain to me what was broken, turns out the tie bar tube has a U bend in it, he must have hit one hell of a rock. well at least i know what i need to buy and fix when i get home many thanks again for the info Ives
  6. Hello my 90 has just started to show signs of wandering steering, and the steering wheel according to my son in law who had it off roading on Saturday has move about 90 degrees???? ie rotated. i have not seen the landy yet as i am away at work, i have asked him to check that the steering column has not moved on the spline shaft coupling coming off the steering box, this might account for the steering wheel to have rotated. but what could cause the steering to wander? i have done a search and have not found an answer that suits my problem recently i replaced all the bushes front and back except the set on the panhard rods (althought i have a set for them) just need the time to get them changed i fitted a new rear A frame ball joint the steering drop down arm nut is tight the swivel on the drivers sides shows signs of a leak, can this cause the steering to feel really light to the touch? long post but thanks for any advice..............ives
  7. problem fixed, found i had the disco slave cylinder fitted, swapped it back to the one off the TD, bleed the system and hey presto i have a working clutch. just finished fitting all the hoses and have just come back from a test drive, excellent, some difference, 200tdi conversion its the way to go many thanks to all who helped me with info ives
  8. the disco 200tdi into my 90 is almost completed, but i am having a problem with the clutch more the lack of clutch. i have used the td clutch which was almost new, the td thrust bearing and the fork with the welded bit on it to streghten it. the problem this morning when i tried to run it was i didn't/couldn't get the clutch to operate, if i started the landy in gear then it would move. bleed the clutch, checked the clutch travel as per various posts on this forum, still no joy. next pulled the gearbox and clutch and rechecked all components, everything appears ok i am now thinking the clutch slave cylinder is shagged, again i am using the cylinder from the td any thoughts am i missing anything????? anything else i need to do or check holidays nearly up so i am desperate to get the conversion completed many thanks as i have been asking loads of questions since i started this conversion
  9. western yes its a disco engine in the 90 thanks for the picture this will help, just about to start work on the 90 again
  10. hello today i have almost finished my 200tdi conversion on my 90 everything seems to be going well, engine out and 200tdi in, everything else is connected, fuel, pas, oil cooler pipes etc however i am now stuck on the best way to connect the air filter and intercooler hose/pipe work does any one have a pictures showing the air filter hose/pipe work and the intercooler pipe work, to give me an ideal how all this pipe work goes together as i would like to get this all completed in the morning.....................................many thanks ives
  11. western the drawings would be a big help, when i stripped my disco donor. i kept as much as i could of the braking system, thinking i might need it for my landy 90..................many thanks
  12. many thanks i was going to bolt it but i just wanted to be sure that i was doing it correctly.....................many thanks western do i just split the one pipe at each front wheel and fit a T piece..................many thanks
  13. western thanks for the link, however its the small studs the surpressor it linked to, do i just put nuts on them? it was bought like this without nuts and the surpressor was just hanging off, i know it sounds a silly question, see attached picture...........................many thanks
  14. hello started yesterday to transplant the disco 200tdi into my 90, will finish it tomorrow for now things are going well, however i have a question i fitted an alternator from a disco 300tdi after changing over the pulleys, its the connections at the back that i need help with, the large brown wires are no problem but the alternator has what i think is a surpressor fitted and the ring connection of this goes unto one of the other threaded connections which have no nuts fitted, is this then earthed???? if this all makes sence??? i have taken some pictures which i will post later expalining it better over the next few days i will fit the front disco axle to the 90, the only problem i see is that there are two brake pipes goind to the disco brakes and only one brake pipe going to the 90???? again any advice what to do......................................................many thanks
  15. Western many thanks for the quick reply Ives

  17. Hello i would like to replace the shocks and springs on my 90, after i fit the 200tdi engine. i do not want to raise the body but would like to fit Heavy Duty springs and shocks with out going mental on the price what type would i go for and who does the best price? many thanks
  18. having replaced the damage loom a few days ago by cutting and splicing in a new section, all joints where soldered, today i stripped back the loom and found a broken wire that went to the accelerator potentiometer, reterminated and HEY PRESTO the check engine light went out. took the disco for a test run and everything working as it was its a good feeling getting everything sorted, imagine all this down to a blown exhaust manifold gasket many thanks for all the input ives
  19. hello how do i reset this check engine light :?: :?: the disco starts and runs, however when i press the throttle i can not get her to rev up :?: :?: the landy moves under tick over but no revs :?: :?: its a 1996 Discovery 300tdi ES Auto any help would be be appreciated ives
  20. Les finally got to the Disco today, and yes its the head gasket blowing near the bulkhead, ordered a replacement gasket today will now go ahead and remove the cylinder head................................many thanks
  21. sotal no rattle when idling checked all the pipes around the turbo, couldn't find any splits had some one else start the engine while i watched, i could see what appeared to be exhaust smoke coming from the rear of the engine, could it be a cylinder head gasket? also when idling when u listen to the engine run you would swear that the sound near the turbo was like an exhaust with a hole in it? but i could find any blow out? will get it into the garage tomorrow now i have finished working on my landy 90
  22. sota 1996 300tdi ES Auto, with EDC checked all fluids today, oil and water ok no water in the oil started the engine and seen smoke coming from the engine bay, engine started but still could not rev it, will spend more time on fault finding tomorrow, but for now i am lost as to what it is
  23. hello while driving my disco today i heard what sounded like a rattling sound coming from what i thought was the turbo. shortly after that i lost power and the CHECK ENGINE warning light came on and the disco stopped. turned off the engine and then started the engine while listening to the turbo, can't be sure but i think it a goner. RAC to the rescue, back home engine will start but pressing the throttle makes no difference to the rpm, engine just idles can anyone point me in the right direction on what the problem is
  24. Mark and Les ok then its a 300tdi altenator i need, and yes 120amps will be big enough.................many thanks lets look on ebay
  25. Les the altenator on the disco 200tdi has broken securing lugs which i seen before i left home, i did not look to see what the amps where. as i am working aboard and was just getting plans in place for when i get home next week, i had seen some altenators on ebay and was going to get a new one for the disco transplant i was hoping to use either a 65amp or a 100 amp altenator as part of the project is installing a split charging system for dual batteries as i am planning to fit a Super winch EP9 Many Thanks Ives
