  1. We've gota couple of inches of snow here in south east Essex and it's snowing heavily :D .......BUT the 90 went for an MOT and have a rear pipe fitted on friday, the pipe was the wrong one and the silencer had a hole in it....Could I get the parts? No. :( So it's sitting on the drive with a SORN on it, I'm waiting for the parts to be delivered this afternoon  ....IF the driver doesn't get stuck in the snow I've found someone who can fit the bits and MOT later today......I work in London and there are no trains, the tube is down and so are the buses....But I've got to get in to work tonight, so may end up borrowing a car as the wife won't let me take hers out in the snow....You do realise that if the 90 was on the road there would be no snow in Essex.......

  2. This is the problem I've got with my 90. It's got a 3.9efi with the ecu in the seat box. The box still leaks after I've tried sealing it, so I've bought a sheet of perspex and I'm going to make a sealed box with high level breather....

  3. I know I'm repeating everyone else but in the grand scheme off things you got off very lightly and you will all hopefuly get well soon with no long term effects. Again lets hope the bug*er in the D3 gets caught.....

When finances allow I'd like a Disco or RRC as a family off roader with full cage....The 90 is great and I'll probably never sell it but now got 3 children so 5 in to a 4 seater doesn't go...Plus air con and leather wouldn't go amiss for off roading holidays. It would have to be an oil burner or lpg and I'd make the 90 abit more hard core....Best of luck with your search....

  4. I must admit I subscribe to LROi and LRW but agree with most thing said. I just keep on hoping things will improve. I have found this forum very informative( if not a little confusing) and the members very helpful. I have also found the Australian forums to be very good. They are very good at making, mending and improving their vehicles. Again they are also very willing to give advice. The only problem with these sites for people like me is that I'm jealous that I can't seem to juggle the time, money, family, work, cars and forum time like everyone else on here....( How the hell do manage to build a top off roader, earn money, keep the wife and kids happy and do a full write up with photos and sleep?)

Plus the one bolt on goodie I would love would be a mega squirt kit, as i don't seem to be able to get my head round it...lol

Regarding mags like LRE, I find them to be a bit more like club mags(in a good way), they feel more personal, maybe thats because they are writen and produced by the people who ran the other mags in the days when they were small and independant...

Anyway mags give us something to read when we can't get access to forums like this...Just look at them as Land Rover nicotine patches...

  5. I didn't realise you could get stainless systems so cheap...I'll have to look in to it......The pipe is in good condition except where the weld on end piece was and the hole near the weld on flange at the other end. The rest is still a dull silver with no other scabs.....Thanks

  6. Thanks for your input.........I had thought about painting it. I thought the zinc coating would last even longer. It's just a pipe no silencer it runs from just in front of the rear axle to the end.....The finishing tip has rusted off and there is a rust hole just by the welded on joining flange........

  7. Like the title says...Will it work? I'm just about to replace the tail pipe on the 90. The new pipe cost £50 and the old one has lasted 5 years, so i was thinking about galvanizing it to make it last longer. I know stainless would be better but that's a bit too steep at the mo. So will it take the heat and make the pipe last longer? Thanks and Happy new year.....

  8. One write up I read on using used veg oil told you to put the oil into a container with a convex bottom with a tap fitted at the lowest point then leave the oil for 2 to 4 weeks. The idea being any lumps sink to the bottom and any condensation that had been absorbed buy the oil would also end up at the bottom with the oil floating on top. Then drain off the rubbish until clean oil starts to run out. I know this is not ideal but may be a start in the right direction until you have your filtrs sorted out. Also if you heat the oil it will run through the filters quicker....hth...

  9. I used to be a boat builder and can confirm mpb is right. The stuff acts like a sponge and will stay wet for a very long time. You would need closed cell foam and I don't think you can buy it in liquid form so unless you fancy mixing a few hundred thousand polystyrene beads with glue  and pouring it into your chassis I'd forget this idea.

  10. No it's just gigglepins are the only ones I've not read about bending. I've got standard arms on the 90 and will leave them as is and clock the swivels. It looks like Land Rover got it right with their arms so no point changing them.....

How ever if Gigglepin or anyone else wants to sponsor me I'll quite happily tell every one how good their stuff is... :D

  11. The box has worn out, no damage just very sloppy and no more adjustment left to tighten it up.

I think that I'll leave it as is for now. I'll add an adjustable panhard rod soon and clock the swivels when I can afford to up grade the whole internals in one go.

The idea is to build a strong capable 90 that can be up graded in stages. It appears that I might as well leave the suspension alone until I put something like a Gwyn Lewis kit on it. Like I said I'll probably rebuild my old box and then add hydro assist steering in the future. I think a raised air intake and breathers are now top of the list again maybe with steel braided steering hoses.....Thanks your both top chaps...John

  12. I've got a 90 with 2" lift running on 33x12x15 BFG MTs. I'm just about to fit a replacement PAS box, it's likely that the tires/ lift accelerated the wear. I was thinking of fitting castor correcting arms, castor correcting bushes or swivles... Each has their pros and cons.

The arms can bend unless you go for something like gigglepins. It seems a shame to fit gigglepin arms and not fit Disco 2 axles. Too costly at the moment. Or is it worth fitting just a front set to a standard axle until finances allow the back to be done and the axle internals swapped with Ashcroft stuff?

The swivels would be a shame to replace without beefing up the cvj joints, but then that leads to half shafts and then you might as well fit a locking diff. Nice idea but again too costly at the moment.

Castor correcting bushes...Cheapest option not very sexy though. I would need to add a wide angle prop to any of the above.

Or would fitting an adjustable panhard rod be the answer....OR have I not thought of something???

Final question how can I tell if the Disco 2 prop will fit my 90 ( 94 Disco V8,auto and rear axle fitted) IIRC it's a double cardigan set up?

Later on I'm going to rebuild my old box get it drilled and tapped and fit hydro assisted steering. I don't mind spending money on things that can be added to but don't want to fit stuff that's no good when I go the next step.

    Thanks John.

  13. White90, I tried the castor correction link but the site it leads to has crashed....Apparently the server and back up both lost their hard drives....I take it I would need new swivels....Might be the excuse I need to upgrade the cv joints. :D

  14. Sounds the same as mine. I'd checked all the steering componants and decided it was the steering box. Had it checked at my local land rover friendly garage and they adjusted the box. It improved for about 8 months then started to get worse again. Had it rechecked and was told there was no more adjustment left in the box... New box going on order tommorow....

  15. If you are going to keep the jack mounted on the front of the bumper I'd inform your insurance company. If you are involved in a collision the other party may claim the damage was made worse by the jack. Your insurance co will then claim they were not informed and will refuse to pay out. If a person is injured in the collision the police will attend and report it. The report will then be sent to the crown prosecution service who will read it and decide if any offences have been committed and whether to prosecute. Like you said "What's the difference between the jack and a winch?"....My winch has been declaired to my insurance co. You could always carry a bottle jack or something simular whilst in the UK and put the hi lift back on for your travels. I know this may sound ott but the last thing you would need after a serious crash is the police and insurance co coming down on you, especialy in this day and age where you could be looking at paying for medical care/loss of earnings going into seven figures....The ultimate choice is yours but think long and hard before making your final decision... Because when you need it the police won't just look the other way.... :(
