  1. Just heard from Simon:

    1st Chris Abel

    2nd Stefan Pracht

    3rd Adrian Turner

    all plus respective co-drivers.

Bit of a result for Gigglepin... Again

talking about his winches or trailing arms ???

if that success carries on, he will charge us to wear his branded shirts !!!!

  2. still waiting for a video of Pete rolling Bathtub whilst doing his turn before the mud run...

flat, about 20mph and still managed to roll it !!!!:lol::lol:

also, awaiting one of Chris Abel RR 3ft in the air over the mud run with Simon's arms in the air like in the fun ride.... that was impressive

  3. I'm now in the market for a decent winch mountable smartish looking bumper for my 96 disco :D

however there seems to be alot out there to choose from, (and i hate making choices!) here is few that i have got my eye on......

this cheviot 4x4 is a fave but they are having problems with the design being legal and cannot give a rough date of availability

this one from D44 looks the biz but i just dont know??

    rebel are doing this one

first 4 have this on e-blag for cheap enough?

i,m looking at the come up here? so it needs to accomadate this winch.

    have i missed anything?

so come on please give your views on any of the above,

have you got any of the above? what's hot and whats not? let me know if you have got one and wish you had gone for the other

My budget is £1000 for both winch and bumper so let me know who you think should get my $£$£ as this is a purchase i only want to make once.

    Thanks in advance

    Dougie

I have the D44 bumper on mine... quality is superb, design is very good... a bit pricey, but top manufacturing does not come cheap...

  4. I heard some sad news that this could be the last Dresden Breslow as the organisers are retiring?

Does anyone else know about this?

currently it is the last DB in the current format (organiser are retiring as Jim said). Someone else is taking over from next year, but not much information if/what changes will be made.

  5. Here we go... THE leak...

It is not the sunroof, it is not the wind screen...

Disco td5 was parked nose up, heavy rain (you may have noticed over the WE if you leave roubd London...)

moved the car, nose goes downhill, and it was the shower.... lots of water running through the front seat belt opening... the headling above the rear door got wert from inside as well...

This was the first time I parked it nose up under heavy rain...

    so ???

    - alpine window ?

    - gutter?

    - sunroof ? even if I don't believe that one (I had it before... different result)

    else ???

  6. My TD5 manual has a creaky/squeeky clutch when the pedal is pressed (creak as pedal moves down...not a bearing squeel) . However this occurs when it is all good and warm. When the car is cold it is as quiet and gradually gets worse.

I wondered if it could be the slave cylinder getting tight when it is warm? I have known the seals to start seizing.

Is this noise a known problem? any ideas welcomed.

mine used to squeak... was the pedal mechanism.

spray wd40 wherever I could... no more squeak...

  7. I am interested in replacing the standard solid discs on the disco with the EBC rotors & pads.

    not a direct answer but...

I've got a Disco td5, I fitted about a month ago a set of EBC brakes

    - front: vented slotted/drilled rotors with yellow pads

    - rear: slotted/drilled rotors with green 6000 pads

it takes about 500miles before the brakes start to be really efficient.

I'd say that the 1st braking in the morning is a bit sluggish, but after a mile or 2 they DO bite...

It's almost if you can feel something "solid" under your foot... you have to make sure you don't go too much or the ABS light becomes to act like a christmas tree...

I tuned my td5 so I wanted extra safety, so it was worth the money... now it's like putting a decent standard tyre or a performance one... one will be better but do you need it...

however I don't think I would go back to std brakes now..

  8. just spoke to a friend who was spectating and he said jim and compadres were doing ok and just outside top ten but not heard update since yesterday

Got a sms from Jim this morning... apparently he jumped from 23rd to 4th.. and Stefan is 7th.

Jim picked up a 15h penalty on day 1 for a DNF section. Then he blasted the other sections.

They have a very hard 58km section today (and has been raining all night long)

  9. Just got this mail from Andy Chaplin.

I am driving the Tomcat & Charlie is co driving ?????? {dont know what has happened there Andy was co-driving for Alloy sport in his Tom Cat & charlie was co-driving for Simon Walton}.

Got an sms from Andy (Allisport)... saying more or less:

everything was well and they were in the lead... then Andy Chaplin took the steering wheel and now the tomcat is suffering

  10. Also just realised that I dont have:

    - rear fog light (the switch does not even illuminate)

    - rear window heater

    - courtesy lights when I open the door

Could it be linked to the "multifunction unit" as named by the Haynes Manual ???

    expensive?

  11. Hello,

    This is giving me headache...

    fault is:

    - no more "alarm" when I leave key in or lights on when open the door with engin stopped

    - no more rear wiper (if I press rear wash/wipe I get the water, but no wiper)

    - front wipers work in normal operation, but do not work on wash/wipe (getting the water but no wiper)

I believe I've checked all fuses and they seem OK...

    any pointer ?

I'm sure it all comes to one stupid little thing somewhere !!!

I think I spotted a recuring theme here...

Jim.. do I get a prize for that ?

  13. Salut expat69

Do you live in France or have a strong connection with it ? Strange! Making friends with French liked minded Land Rover enthusiasts is obviously not a priority of yours if you go round calling them dumb just because they happen to have organised a get together on the same day as another! Or were you calling me dumb? If so I didn't organise it and am not even in their club!

I put a posting on here because I have met them a few times, they are great guys, the site at Availles is great and I know for a fact that there are a lot of English enthusiast's now living in France who are not aware of the local/national events and there French is not good enough to dare venture on the French forums.

Hope that you have a good week end at Landmania

    Jason

I'm a French expat living in London.. and yes, making friend within the french LR community is a strong priority of mine, as I tend to drive down to the main LR events in France.. (to see all my friends)

I wrote "I may be dumb" meaning that I find weird for a LandRover club to organise a very large event (100+ vehicles) on the same WE as Landmania.

It would be like someone doing a similar thing on the same WE as Billing... it can be done but why ?

If there is a lot of english enthusiasts living in France (and if you live in a country, you tend to learn the language as well), why don't they mix with the french LR community ??? Landmania, the French National, etc.. are all well advertised in the french 4x4 mags and forums. There has been a number of english going to Landmania forums and they have always been very welcomed (even if they could not speak french).

I know this off-road site, it is a great one...

My reaction was more a "But... why that date??? " than trying to slam this initiative...

apology if it was taken the wrong way.
