  1. can anybody recommed which is the best air filter to buy for my td5 discovery? itg or k&n? I've used both on different motorbikes in the past can anybody recommend which is the best? or the best prices? thanks dave

I have been using ITG in my disco 300 for over 30000miles.. no problem at all

I've now put one in my Disco td5 .. no problem...

  2. Hi All,

Has anyone fitted a uprated intercooler to a 300tdi Auto with EDC , without the ecu upgrade as well? Just wondering if its worth doing without the ECU upgrade to alter the fuel mapping, will eventually do both but can only afford one at the minute.

    Regards

    Keith

the intercooler on its own will not do much

I got my 300tdi EDc auto fully tuned by Allisport. It was worth the money...

  3. Expat's event sounds good but I would not want to limit the number of traders or vehicles. A venue like Seven Sisters could swallow Billing and the off-road course would be a bit better too :D

Landmania is limited for 2 reasons:

    - too many traders would mean less revenues for each of them.... The organiser wants the traders to make money and have a good time too... so they limit the numbers and the fees are not too dear.

    - too many vehicles on site would mean people queuing on the course... The only time there are "traffic jam" (5-10min waiting max) are at 2 bottle necks between zones. 300acres is big enough but not too big.

  4. Hi,

it may help/give ideas or else...

Look at the French way of doing LR shows...

The largest LR community in France (and French speaking countries) is around the Landmania.com internet forum.

For the last 8 years an annual gathering is organised in the South of France...

    Format:

    - 2 days event in May

    - 300 acres off-road site in south of France (near Aix en Provence)

    - a specific trialing area close to the trade area good to show off and to watch

    - no more than 40 traders

    - 850 vehicles limit

    - lots of drinks and partying

    - VERY friendly, everyone help everyone

    - marshals and helpers at every corner and all volunteers

    - 50Euros registration per vehicle for the whole WE (driving and camping)

the organisers are not making money - just breaking even.

But the event is loved by all in France...

This year the Brits were represented by LR Gear, Allisport, Innovation4x4/GPC and Devon4x4 with Outback Import for the traders and I saw about 5-6 UK registered/driven visitors.

  5. Hello,

Do remember that everything you list will improve the performance, however you waont see any massive changes until you tweak the fuel pump.

on my Disco 300tdi auto I did the following:

    - Allisport Intercooler (std size as I wanted to keep my aircon and it does not make a big difference bwteen the std size or the big one)

    - Allsport re-chipping (as I have electronic fuel pump)

    - Allsport silicone hoses

    - EGR removed (blank plate from LR dealer - the cheapest !!!)

    - cat removed (put a non cat disco downpipe - the Defender one does not have the flexi bit)

    - ITG air filter (from Allisport)

    hope it helps

    Xavier

  6. Hi,

I've fitted spots to my G4 LE, no problem. If I remember correctly the blank just has a plug "stowed" on the back of it.

I bought the genuine spotlight kit and wiring loom (which is quite involved to fit as it alters the wiring in the engine bay fuse box and you have to remove the drivers headlight to get the wiring through to behind the grille) and fitted it in about two hours. Part number is STC 53196 if I remember correctly, these are the ones with the horizontal protection grilles as fitted to G4 roofracks/winch bumpers

The only bit which is a bit of a "challenge" is re-configuring the wiring in the instrument binnacle to allow the spots and switch illumination to work correctly with Main Beam. I've had them fitted for 18months now and wouldn't be without them.

    Can supply pictures if needed.

    Regards

    Scrumps

    that the one !!!

did you have to buy a mounting kit to fit on the A-Bar, or was it alreadt par of the kit ?

    many thanks

    Xavier

  7. Hello,

Got a Disco II G4 LE...

want to put spot light on the A-Bar.. I pulled the blanking switches on the left hand side of the steering wheel (got 2 blanks under the front/rear defrost switches) ...

the bottom blank switch is connected to something ???

    any idea ???

also.. what spot light may I fit on a genuine A-Bar (the soft one) ?

    thanks

  8. I had my '97 Disco 300 tdi auto (with EDC) chipped and intercooled by Allisport..

Very good quality and very pleased with the results... :D

  9. Hello,

What spot lights can I fit on a genuine Disco2 A-Bar (the soft one)...

I can't really drill into the foam ???

Am I stuck with genuine lights?

also, are the G4 Disco3 spots light the same as the G4 Disco2 ones ??? and they seem similar to the Warn lights.. are they the same?

    thanks

  10. English podium

    1st - Simon & Matt - Devon4x4

    2nd - Jim & Brendon - Gigglepin4x4

not bad for people who finished assembling the morning of their departure, then run-in the engine by crossing France, to finally test the whole lot in one of the most challenging event...

  11. Any pic's of this Expat ?

Can you post some when done ?

    Cheers

    TPK

Doing the pics today and tomorrow, but will be posted after the 6th April (don't ask... )

so far so good in term of install.

The base plate is only 6mm wider than the tray. Also I did not want to completely block the vent (radio one).

So plate is resting at front of the dash, goes over the tray and 1/2 cover the radio vent

    installation so far:

    - removed rubber mat from tray

    - drilled hole in the tray area (more towards back of tray and big enough)

    - drilled two 5mm holes in plate and tray to put machine bolts

    - you need to fit the bolts (5x40) from the inside out and the nuts over the plate (otherwise you cannot refit the radio) - big hands are not very useful...

    - ran my wires (spread them in the hole and leave some slack... as when you fit the radio back on it will be a close fit)

then it's the standard installation of switches, gauges....

I have to say that it looks very neat...

    Hope it helps

    Xavier

  12. Kev Baldwin (on here) sells a Defender centre console for 200/300tdi, similar to the TD5, through his company Mudstuff.co.uk. Excellent product and not expensive.

    John

I'm currently fitting one of them in my Disco 300. It fits right over the centre tray.

  13. I am assuming most vehicles will have over 33".

Could be wrong tho. its been known. ;)

Right... I thought I would have a chance... using handicap... But I guess my fairly standard Disco with 245/75 Mud tyres (and maybe 1 winch) will have to stay on the car park...

Why don't you put a 10pt handycap if tyres are 7% taller than stock size??? (yes... 245/75 is 6% taller than 235/70 :) )

  14. I need to have my (Disco 300) bonnet Camel-style due to roof lights....

They are over the windscreen, I need them here... not perfect place.. but...

What is prefered for the bonnet? mat black paint, or mat black sticker...

Need to be done before end of March... round the Heathrow or M3/M25 junction

    any suggestion??

    thanks in advance..

  15. just spent a large amount of money on a close fitting winch bumper, to replace the one on mine which sticks out into the next county... :D .

    Which bumper did you get?

I've got a D44 Winch Bumper and steering guard on my Disco 300tdi auto AND aircon... fitted without problem and it is quite a close fit (compared to the other ones)
