i use one of three methods
1. chain on a loop attached to 1/2 drive
2. 3/4" web strap loop on 1/2 drive
or
3. not sure what its called but its a rubber strap that you feed around the filter and back through the handle. handle goes perpendicular to the filter and off it comes!

Tony/Tim - see you there.

taunton m5 jct to A303 road (A358?) will be a nightmare with traffic regardless of weather if your going SW.
-
Sweden i dont know but house prices in Norway are acceptable
its just the cost of living that finished off most people!
-
oh,
glad someone enjoyed it all!
-
you reckon an underdrive would be any good or too slow.
presuming traction was maintained all the way down that is.
-
Winch - as already mentioned. i would always go for one you feel you would be confident with. for me that was a XD9000i up front (now an 8274) and a Husky on the rear. i dont think money can really be skimped on here.
Snorkel - not essential but a nice to have
extended breathers.
removable rear recovery point such as Southdown to tow bar doesnt drag.
Underbody protection
-2" shock mounts for more articulation

The Quantocks at 0645 or so
my car after clearing it, attempting to drive it to work, putting it back on the dirve and returning an hr and bit later!
And its still snowing.
Q: Anyone know why people driving ability is sooo bad in the snow, you would have thought common sense would say leave a little more room than usual and don't pull out on front of people! but obviosuly not.
-
Tony,
which bit was funny!
-
Tony,
heres pretty much the same, although only 4".
stuck the car in the hedge 3 times trying to get up the hill from the house before retiring to home to collect Rover and drop the misses at the station! that took ages as it was. then decided the normal 1hr 30 commute was out of the question, so i won't be going in today!
Matt - if you need help i will be here!
Note - Neglected to mention to work that i have a rover!!
Not many cars around though!!!!
-
winch is used 1 once a month min at an event may be two events a month.
my main thinking was for the rope protection, Si + Tony i think you are right i will wear it out long before UV plays a sig role.
ditto the moisture thing is a good point.
Out of interest i did seal the solenoid box on the xd9000i before the last event, i didnt help, mud out but mositure in!
-
Matt,
if you are free this weekend i am around sat pm for a look at the cage etc.
may have to get around to fitting the webasto at this rate!
-
Jim
come out with Mark and I on Sun cycling across the Quantocks, that will take your mind off it!
def seats and 4 point harness.
out of interest which wagon is this for - rangie? or new toy?
-
Anyone got one? are they worth it - protecting plasma from sun etc
where can you get them from?
Dan - yes i know you have one i sold it to you!

A larger intercooler generates denser, cooler, air so more fuel is required per volume for an efficient burn. So the answer really is no - you would have to adjust fueling. But you could manage it yourself as a controlled experiment - see here - or fit the intercooler then take it to a specialist. Don't Allisport offer free fits? [They certainly used to]
Neil
how much are these things?
Mine is running rich at the moment so maybe a changed intercooler would improve things,
Will - did you find yours mad any difference?
-
it depends hopw deep you want to go.
bonnet level for me would be
1. check wading plugs that are meant to be perm fitted are.
2. Snorkel
3. extended both axles, g and t box breather pipes up snorkel. (use piping from local pet shop for aquariums etc)
4. either waterproof the ecu or move it with an extension cable and then waterproof it. (Dasteck do them as do Scropion i think), lunchboxes with clamp type edges good for waterproofing.
for top of wheel depths
1. Snorkel and go carefully
Post event.
check the oils for contamination.
It depends how long you intend to sit in the water or just drive through it.
may be a good idea to fit the tow ropes before taking the plung as well!
