  1. Not that i know much about it, or need to really, but i do know that now if you take less than 45mins to do the MOT the Ministry will know (if the data is then added to the system) so your 3yr old car for 1st MOT will be 45mins min. not the 20min look around that can/used/did/does happen.

Well truck Cab had its tick in the box for the year on Sat. i did take it in a week early so that i had some time to sort any problems if needed. The only issue was that as this was the first time it had been added to the computerised system they could Not date the MOT from the expiry of my old cetificate. Apparantly this wont be an issue when re MOTing cars on the system but is an issue for first issue (!!!!)

So the warning is dont get your MOT done too early if its the first time on the new system as you may well lose days as in my case. Glad i didnt take it in any earlier!

  2. I think the list is more like this (from prev post plus moving Hedley):

    1 scottydo/ hedley

    2 pugwash

    3 TJ101 / JST

    4 white90 & Val

    5 M005

Tim I will be away the week prior, due to fly back to UK on the Sat, if its not delayed etc. I will drop you a line then to confirm we are still on.

What time are we meeting up? same place as last time Tim/Hedley? Lydeard Hill car park 0900? or is that too late?

Scott, any chance you can drop me back after on your way home?

Tim any chance you could pick me up on your way there? Hope the heater works in the new beast! or shall i bring lots of coats etc.

  3. and the result:

Warn XD £200 on replacement parts now fixed and refitted, also sold (!) 8274 0n its way (hopefully)

Husky : David Bwoyer had it for a week and end result:

    Bowmotor

    new clutch housing

    replacement drum

    replacement drive shaft

    brakes changed

    freespool lever replaced

plus lubs, labour, gaskets and just about everything else. etc

Apparantly mine was an old commercial one with slower gearing than std. and was on its last legs. the motor literally fell apart when it was removed (hence the new one) the gears had worn on the edges as the free spool had become loose (housing worn) hence the replacement drum

The only problem on refitting it all is that my the replacement drum is smaller than the original and the rear rope doesnt fit in it, so have changed ropes front to back and seems to be sorted although front rope is now too long for XD drum really (8274 will sort that)

One point to note is that the fairlead is designed to go on the front of the husky housing. with my setup the fairlead is attached to the rear cross member and the winch is bolted to an inverted U welded to the chassis. this can allow the drum to separate slightly under heavy loads. (apparantly) so i am now using two fairleads on the front of the Husky the other on the rear crossmember. should overcome that problem with luck.

Anyway all sorted now and bank bal taken hell of a battering....................

At least it passed its MOT today.

  4. Steve

yes please count me in as more than a maybe either with Tim or Darth.

Depends if Darth is up for a do everything approach, dont want to be responsible for edging on unnecessarily!

More importantly dont want the balme when something breaks! but with that super underbosdy protection you ahve should be fine now!

Then again don't hink my motor is upto Tims stds.

So Darth assuming you are happy to team we are away.

  5. i used any old wire to go from the back to the W connector.

then adjusted the toggle switches so it read the afore mentioned 800rpm at idle and left it at that.

the veh then got nicked the next day so i cant comment on longterm use. (got a nice td5 onthe insurance though)

  6. The previous owner of my truck cab fitted a Quaiffe. I use the veh for challenge events and its superb, some times dabbing the brakes needed to gain traction as above but no half shaft probelms (touching wood) as yet.

    highly recommended

  7. James (brother in law) got his seals done at Blackdown LR - wellington way for £50 if i remember correctly. same symptons as yours, leaking from bot seal. that included them taking it off the veh.

Paddocks do them with and without drop arms.

Is Adwest the one up near Reading? if not there is one up near Reading who were knocking them out for £175 replacment complete drop arm good to go etc. i have used them in the past but typically cant find the details.

Is this a result of fitting a new pump then?

  8. i do 170 miles a day 5 days a week.

just pranged the £500 car as well so could be looking for something.

Mondeo rep mobile TD would get my vote, or i am with Richard and a 214/216 odl style is ideal.

Note Jons points though on costs, i did the same comparisons its the extra ins and tax that does it, but you could offset that to less depreciation/reapir costs etc on LR etc.

Try to find an ins company that will let you run two policies with same no claims on both.

To be honest for 70miles a day it would prob be cheaper to stick with the disco.

  9. Si

i hate to say it but thats not my wagon!!!! v similar but it aint mine, cage, waffle loc different etc, plus didnt we drive in and out of that one.................

Also if you remember no-one would sit in with me at the time!

A pic of mine is on page.........oh hang on, no it didnt make it - my only complaint.

Excellent club mag well done guys.

My only comment - whens the next winch/punch challenge?

  10. Hi there and welcome.

stick a post up for challenge vehicles and what would you do to make the ultimate one or something.

    Oils are covered

my point being before you go and cut up your hardtop or buy a truck cab roof spk to SiWhite and consider the double cab option, he and Will Warne are looking to do +12" truck cab roofs etc.

I am running a std truck cab and the ltd internal storage space can cause probs.

  11. The greenlaning trip on exmoor/quantocks Scottydo is taking us on, the one you are/were coming along on!

any better? get the mail ref logs?

    Warn now fixed.

Husky apparantly needs alot of remedial work, its got a lower gear ratio than std as well apparantly, is that the commercial rating bit, hence the different flap as well. Free spool lever has worn internally (somewhere) giving lots of lateral movement.

lastest i was told is that it may be cheaper to get another one.......................cant believe that

  12. Tim

you lucky lucky man looks bloody smart and alot of work gone into it - could do with a cage though! and rear winch, with some nice alli lockers for kit.

Whats the thoughts keeping it as a rag top?

am looking forward to my trip on the 4th already, will bring some warm clothes!!!!

  13. Tim

cheers for the info. XD now fixed (for the moment until it get sover used again) i expect i will run with my std bumper and an 8274 (mid next year possibility for purchase)

more importantly so whats the new beast and is it coming along on the 4 Dec? Ibex?
