  1. Gary, sorry we missed you late Sat. Hope things are getting there with the wagon.

Tim, cant believe the door issue, whats going on there then.

i will second the front wing demand, just a left and right needed for mine if anyone has a spare.

Richard would love a CD will drop you a pm.

Tim, Gary, Jon, Richard, Mark - thank you all for a top Sat, next year will def be both days.

Jon, note front axle guard in photo problems - bigger tyres would help as well though.

  2. Red 90 maybe its not the road work overgearing that is the issue as much as too fast in low 1st for decents etc.

although only a 200tdi i am running 33" tyres with LT77 (def) and 1.4 T box plus underdrive and for challenge events is great for just another 3" etc to the punch.

H range 4/5th as per normal road conditions, pulls 5th most of the time eg all motorway etc at 60mph.

L Range excellent for normal off road and towing/hitching up etc

Underdrive: wheels turn at winch speed roughly so theres no sudden grip then over running the winch rope then it getting shock loaded. rock crawling is also superb.

I did contemplate the replacement crawler box option although you can only get 1.2 H range which i doubt mine would pull, plus theres no overlap L to H. also you change the T box so cant take it with you as easily if seeling on the veh with an aspiration to keep your low gears etc.

Underdrive - bloody expensive, should retain value, easily transferable between veh and gives a third option as ultra low or H + underive option. also retains std LR pinions etc which i was keen to do.

    1st geard, mph per 1000rpm

    High = 5.2,

High +U/D= in between 5.2 and 2.2 cant remember ,

    Low= 2.2 ,

    Low + U/Drive = 1.3 (3rd gear = std low 1st approx)

  3. David - thank you for your efforts this weekend - a really good venue and well planned event - thank you.

Tim, Richard, Gary(?), Jon - many thanks for showing us around, sorry if that one punch took longer than expected, think we were all bored by the end of it, maybe we should have moved the tree as in the photo above!! Tim look fwd to seeing you on the 4th. Forgot to ask can you email that Husky picture across again (trem417@aol.com)

Si - sorry we didnt have time to chat, had to get back Sat night! timelines to meet. hope you got the rover sorted before it got too cold.

Good to meet up with you all, Darth has hopefully some decent photos that will appear soon.

Jon W - shame about the track rod, thats life as they say, i would consider how long have you been off roading and how many times has it gone, when considering upgrade (also depends on what you intend to use the veh for int he future!)

Nige - I will email across those dimensions for rear lockers as promised if you drop me an email trem417@aol.com so i can reply.

  4. the disc shouldn't get that hot, it should be cooler than your driving wheel dics for example. i can touch mine after a journey no probs.

alt try driving with it clicked on a notch and get it to wear quicker (short distance!) then when off you will have the clearence!

  5. horses for courses.

i started greenlaning without anything went upto a Southdown guard, rmeoved it when i kept grounding out as it reduced clearence, then refitted it as things got bent. yes i do loose some axle clearence. and in wet conditions it helps create a suction with the mud which can cause problems.

Although on the flip side i know the front end is protected and i can use a little more speed if required and attck rock sections safe in the knowldedge that nothing will bend.

Overall protection i feel is greater although you do loose clearence and could therefore find it a limiting factor in trying to get to your objective.

    as i said

    horses for courses.

  6. i am sure Si will add comments when hes back from 7S

    but in my experience

the disc will make some noise as the pads are only just clear of the disc therefore any build up or rust etc will reduce that clearence and give increased noise until it has warn down. Also the location of the disc under the seat box is closer to you and prob enhanced by the ali boxes surronding it so it makes the nosie more pronounced.

Mine made a fair bit of rubbing noise for the first 100miles or so, you could hear it in the background. now that noise has reduced although is still there (300miles done?) but its nothing the worry about.

If for example you wash your car then drive it off after letting it sit in the sun you will hear the pads and discs on the std brakes rubbing, this goes quickly as you brake the vehicles. with the handbrake it normaly only comes on with the vehicle stationary therefore the build up of surface rust doesnt reduce as qucikly.

just make sure that the cable isin't over tensioned and the pads are gripping the disc whilst driving that would obviosulsy give you reduced mpg, hot disc, resistance to motion and noise.

  7. I think they're designed so that if "one" side of the vehicle drops into deep water, the air (which is easier to suck up than water) will be drawn through the un-submerged side, and vice-versa.

Thats the one - a better way of saying what i meant as above

They are LR part numbered so you can get them through a dealer, more chance of getting it if the dealer you happen to use deals with Mil LR as well, eg Wotten Basset (TH Whites) etc.

  8. they are fitted to each side and connected by a T peice to the std air intake hose which then goes to the filter.

They are also handed. Imagine them as louvers/blinds on a tilt. therefore you cant see the slots from the sides but can if looking up from underneath.

The idea of having one each side was that if one side was submerged/mud/water it would draw the air from the other side. in std horizontal form i guess it draws evenly from both (dependant on hose lengths etc)

there are no filters or mess etc in them.

In reality, extra bit to be knocked off and restrict air flow in my opinion.

  9. you can send the grids over (pm or email trem417@aol.com) if you like.

Expect PugWash will be up for most seeing his Portal axle desires (hey Jim?) as long as his legs dont get scratched!

Pheasent lane the one with the little washout close to the bottom?

If you could collect me and drop me back that would be great and save Tim a diversion to mine. Hedley knows where it is.

Packed meal for me gives flexibility and you can always get pub grub as well. Plus lots of warmers having seen Tims new toy, hope the heaters good.

  10. £650 fitted or so (may have been £690) from North Off road. 90 truck cab. 52mm CDS

he will do a std design then add bits to your preference if needed.

My priority after safety was i wanted a tight fit to the body, especially on top so it fitted in the garage. i only had 3" gap above the truck cab and the cage is 2" dia! And yes it fits.

Its welded to front outriggers and bolted to rear. he added a cross behind the bulkhead, plus cant bars as well as the three over the top of the roof. Nothing extra charged for the additional work.

I was quoted anything from £800 fitted upto £998 just supplied down in around here (SW) so for the £650 fitted in 2 days it was worth the journey up there.

i think hardtop ones are around £850 for 90, didnt enquire as to 110 prices sorry.

i would advise full external, including diagnols on the sides and roof.

So far very pleased with it and cant fault it. but then i havent rolled it to test fully.

  11. Or just take it out when competing and gnd dump it, thats what i do with mine although you needs to be careful with some events..... i would want it there when i got back at the end.

If i get a puncture when competing then Dan can always run off and get the spare, bit of phys would be good for him. ( i would let him roll it back rather than carry it above his head to speed things up though.) i would prob have loosened one or two wheel nuts by the time he got back as well.

    Behind the driver:

Its in the blind spot you cant see anyway

Doesnt obscure much need vision over near side

Mirrors and/or head out window appraoch means you can see off side.

some rear protecting should anything break and be flying through the air (but ltd.)

    Looks better

    Fits better

Most people seem to have theirs there (or mounted flat in the load tray)

    Behind passenger:

leaves space for your lunch behind you.

As Mark says you can see its still there.

Safer to get to and lift off if changing the wheel on a busy road.

Ok running out of ideas now...........

  12. i gave up with swing away wheel holders on the back. too much effort, and alot of metal left there when the wheel is not on it.

Southdown do them though (or used to)

Mines mounted flat, vertical to the rear of the bulkhead on the cage.

for side mounting wouldn't behind the driver a better option rather than LHS? ltd vision directly behind anyway, plus window to look out of on drivers side if needed.
