  1. Hello Elbekko , So it looks like I will have to buy another cd changer + the wiring , You wouldn't happen you know the make & model of cd changer that was fitted with my Alpine head unit would you ? Kind regards , Paul .
  2. Afternoon peeps , I have just purchased an original Alpine head unit XQD101550LNF for my P38 DSE m/y 2000 . Just had a go at fitting it in the car but the wiring plugs for the Sony cd changer are very different from the sockets in the head unit , My question is :- Does anyone know where I could purchase a patch lead to connect them together or am I flogging a dead horse . The Sony cd changer I have is connected via one red plugged cable , one white plugged cable & a round DIN type plug , The plug I am trying to connect to on the Alpine head unit is a 20 pin oblong socket , Any help or advise would be greatly appreciated , Kind regards , Paul .
  3. Hello Ellbekko , Just tried cleaning a failed MAF sensor & refitted it & ------------------------------------------------------ No , Its still not working , Kind regards , Paul .
  4. They don't seem that dirty & just to recap " it is an instant failure " with the MAF on my diesel , when that failed , It seemed to play up a bit first & then fail . I'll give a failed one a good clean & give it another try , Cheers , Paul .
  5. Yes , It was another second hand sensor , What's so strange ?
  6. No , Just connected it up & away it went .
  7. Replaced the MAF sensor today & all is well again , Lets see how long this one lasts LOL .
  8. The car is a 1996 4.0 gems , I don't have the RAVE workshop . Cheers David .
  9. I have no access to a oscilloscope , Where would I find the engine ECU , Is that the one by the battery ?
  10. Voltage is 13.7 on my multi meter , The failure is that they just don't control the air / fuel mixture & the engine is surging or hunting , Its exactly the same if I unplug it as well .
  11. Hello everyone , Is there anything that cause my MAF sensor to fail like a electrical overload or similar , I'm on to the third one in a month now , or am I just being unlucky , All the sensors have been second hand & the second one only did 10 miles before it failed .
  12. Hello peeps , Just a bit of feedback for all of you , It was the MAF sensor that had failed , so thank to Ally V8 , elbekko & Dave w , for all you input & help . Kind regards , Paul .
  13. Hi Alley V8 , Does the petrol maf sensor have a default setting like the diesel maf sensor when you unplug it ? Regards Paul .
  14. Got round to changing the plugs today but still no joy , I don't think its a misfire anymore as I have removed the plug leads one by one & all make a slight change to the engine speed . Are there any sensors that I need to be checking ? Thanks in advance , Paul .
  15. Hi Simon , Is the pump working ? When you switch the ignition on you should be able to here the pump running ? If not , check the fuses & relay as elbekko suggests , Otherwise you may have fitted another faulty pump , Regards , Paul .
  16. Hello peeps , My P38 is playing up again , I went to start it on Saturday & it was very difficult to get going , once it started it ran very unevenly & stalled every time I took my foot off the throttle , If I hold it just above tickover it keeps surging & trying to cut out , but If I rev it over 2000rpm it seems a lot better but still has a hint of a misfire , It was running ok the last time I drove it , The car runs on lpg & petrol but no matter what it runs on its still the same so I doubt that it is a fuel issue . Any ideas please would be of a great help .
  17. Hello everyone , Just to let you know that I got the car started today , The problem was a mixture of things that were all going wrong all at the same time . The advice from Ally V8 helped me a lot as I was entering the EKA code with the bonnet up & that probably did the most damage causing the lockout in the first place , Also , leaving the car with the ignition on for 30 minutes cleared the lockout message so that I could have another go at it . Also the kind gesture from Puffernutter who offered to lend me his nanocom & send it through the post to me , How trusting is that with a guy he doesn't even know , At the end of the day the car would not accept the keycode in the normal way probably because of the micro switches in the door ' Thanks Paul Woodward ' & they could only be entered with the nanocom . So there we have it , another success story with the help from the forum . Thankyou to everyone that put there suggestions forward on this topic , I couldn't have done it without you . Kind regards , Paul .
  18. Will it rev over 3250 when its not in gear ?
  19. No luck peeps , Cant get rid of message & engine wont turn over , Have tried all your suggestions except buying a nanocom . The drivers door does lock when I connect the battery & the indicators flash 3 times , But that's all I am getting out of it . Lockout message does not disappear at any time during or after the full procedure . The keycode always worked before when I disconnected the battery .
  20. Hello peeps , Got a 1997 P38 which has had the battery disconnected for 6 weeks , Tried to start it today & got the message KEYCODE LOCKOUT , I've put the keycode in but all it does is bleep at me & continues to show the same message , Any ideas what I can do to start it would be a great help .
  21. Hello Will , What year is your car ? I thought all diesels had a MAF , Its the unit just after the air filter with the wire coming out . regards , Paul .
  22. Hello Will , I had some thing similar happen on my motor so as a simple test , unplug the mass air flow meter " MAF " & then go for a test drive to see if you have regained some of the power , if so it is the " MAF " at fault , you can drive it around like this but it will have reduced power & eventually you will need to fit another MAF , it worked for me , Kind regards , Paul .
  23. Diesel sump plug torque setting is M12 = 18 lbf.ft M22 =44 " V8 sump plug torque setting is up to 99MY = 33 lbf.ft from 99MY = 24 " Kind regards , Paul .
