  1. After all day re-searching, ringing around, querying etc. I still have no idea on which beadlock wheels to buy :(

I need a 15x8 wheel with 3.5" backspacing to fit rrc.

I have looked at both single and double lockers, but still don't know what one.

    So far I have been looking at;

    -Mach 5 beadlocks

    -Allied rockathon

    -MRW rockcrawling wheels

    -Stazworks

    -Portal rover's double beadlocks

The reason why I cannot decide would be down to problems with all wheels.

-The mach 5's have got problems at the factory atm and are currently being rectified.

-Allied are all the way over in the states so shipping is abit pricey and backspacing is all extra along with colours etc.

-MRW same as Allied but even more expensive

-Stazworks are only suited to one tyre that you have specified in the making, so if I choose to change tyres it will cost me to have new inserts

-And portal rover has the same problem as Stazworks in terms of changing tyres but also are under a brand new design because of faults

Ideally I don't wnat to be spending mega money here, however I do want a quality wheel at my specification. Obviously I am not going to get a perfect wheel, they do not exist, however I need a compromise of a wheel that is more good than bad

Any idea's or help would be most appreciated

  2. Depending on how much suspension articulation you have, you may get away with fitting 37's, although they will most likely rub on the back on the rear arch (inner arch) and on the footwell at the front. 35's would not rub with that amount of lift, although if you can get 37's under it, do it because the more diff clearance the better.

  3. Also, the KM2 is very simular to the krawler- that being a rock crawing tyre, i.e not designed to perform as well in the mud? Maybe the KM2 has different cleaning capabilities for mud etc.??? Although as said above, the original KM has been tried and tested by nearly everyone! It is a fantastic tyre all round.

  4. These do them at a good price as far as I am aware. Although, why not be different and go for the mudzilla's??? If they perform like the mickey thompson baja claw then I would highly recommend them as I have just used some baja claws this weekend on a rangie and their performance was outstanding, despite the fact that they were run at 16psi! For me that's high!

  5. Errrrrrrr.............I have self tappers and on my fibreglass arches they are solid. I have slid into a bank hitting the fibreglass arch really quite hard and instead of the fibreglass cracking or ripping the threads out etc. it pushed he wing in quite far, bending it up alot :o Still at least I now know that my arches are secure :)

  6. Self tappers was the way i was leaning

And in the destructions it says to leavs 10mm lip

    What will the difference be?

    Cheers

    Jim

10mm means you just have to work to a closer tolerance really. I left 20mm as that was more than enough taken off for the tyres to clear them on articulation. The only problem was the rears as they had alot more than 20mm left on them, otherwise you will see a rather large hole appear, and alot of daylight! On the rears I just took a little bit off at the time, still working towards that line that was marked out but just making sure you don't break through into the car! It never got anywhere near the marked line but there is still more than enough room there.

  7. I used self tappers, and I didn't use the instructions. Basically, measure twice cut once. Just take your time. It is much easier with two people doing it so try to get assistance if you can. I left approx 20mm lip all the way around the arch. To do this I used a drywipe marker, held the arch in place and drew round it, then moved the arch down 20mm and marked again. I will be filling my rear doors with expanding foam.

  8. I had 34" tyres on a classic with a 70mm spring lift and 50mm extended arches. I am now running 35" tyres on the same setup. IMHO the wheel offset in the vital part, with little backspacing (i.e 3.5") the tyres will rub on the outer arch and with lots of backspacing (i.e 5" etc) the tyres will rub on the inner arch.

  9. I have just bought a goodwinch tds 9.5c from david. Superb, I ordered it tuesday, he said it would arrive friday, it did. Also he did me a very special offer and discount, and no postage. So for £339, I have got a winch that with a little help, is very waterproof, will pull alot more that it actually states and looking at the specs and when feeding on the rope, is nearly exactly the same as my dad's warn 9.5ti which costs over £800. I don't think you can do better for the money Jim.

Edited to remove dodgy reference ;)
