  1. Yep, I think you're right as you put it like that. This is a good engine and a rebuild would put at least 10 more years on it probably much more.
  2. I've never driven a 200TDi to be fair. I do love the Isuzu engine. If I can find a quality rebuild kit I'll keep it, it's just the ones I come across seem to be no-name parts for £500 from China.
  3. Genius. That fixed it, a £3 Lucas sensor. I don't think that would have come up on my radar at all. Drove to Bala and back at it stayed below Normal. So glad that's sorted, it was really bugging me. Surprised the garage didn't clock it either, so many Agri Defenders where I live. Thank you for that buddy, really appreciate it I'll fit the fans tomorrow, better to have than not.
  4. I have my doubts about the Rad, I think it's due a replacement but I'm 80% sure it's functioning. It's difficult to come to any solid conclusions due to this overheating problem, the wrong sender, no cowling all clouding the issues. So I'm taking everyones advice and putting in the solutions advised. Which is, again, great information. I can dodge the expense of the V8 Rad when I replace it and go for something more modest. The problem with the Isuzu is that parts are hens teeth in this country, so I'm tempted to go for a 200TDi next year.
  5. Calne is too far for me too I'm afraid. That's down near Bath isn't it? Let's see how I get on with the electric fans when I finally get all the bits. If it's a flop I'll take you up on your kind offer
  6. That's really kind of you buddy, but I'm up here in North Wales. 😔
  7. I've ordered PRC2505 sender. Hope it fits the block Would be quite funny if it's a £10 fix, and he sold his car over it. 😂
  8. I've no idea what engine was in it Steve. August 1984 Defender is all I have. Nothing in the documentation that came with it gives any clues. The radiator has V8 from 2004 stamped on it, but that could be an addition because of the isuzu.
  9. Unfortunately the cowls go for mickey mouse money. £150 for the V8 radiator cowl, and another £100 for the tunnel piece, and no guarantee it will fix the issue. Fridgefreezer used Freelander 1.8 twin electric fans on his and he's kindly sent me the write up on how it's done, so I'll install that for now, but I'm only half convinced that will solve my issue. It's a cheap install though, so all good.
  10. The mismatch didn't occur to me to be fair. Just reading now that the Isuzu has two coolant sensors, upper on top of the thermostat, which I know is not plugged into anything, and a lower. on in the block. Would be good to see another Isuzu conversion in a defender and see how that is hooked up. I think it's getting hot enough at the stat as it's extremely hot water when I've checked that part of the system. It has a V8 radiator in it, and the lower left part where the outlet hose is remains cold even in an overheating condition. The rest of the radiator is hot. There's also no water from the upper return to the expansion tank. So something amiss. I reckon this is why the last guy sold it, he was stumped.
  11. Can I run something by you that I find an odd diagnosis. I bought a Defender with an Isuzu 2.8 installed that suffers from an overheating issue. If the thermostat is removed, it runs fine all day long. I drove it back from Bristol to North Wales without a problem. So I replaced the water pump, belts, couple of hoses and a new thermostat. Still overheats. So I thought it's a airlock. I couldn't get it out for the life of me. So I broke with tradition and took it to the local garage. They said it's not an airlock, I need to replace the viscous fan on the engine with an electric fan, reason being that the gap between the engine and radiator is too far for the fan to be effective and there's no cowling there to assist. But if it runs fine with no thermostat then fans and cowlings surely can't be the reason for overheating, it must be an airlock?
  12. Good! I'm disgusted that people actually back the closing of this guys facility. What the hell happened to true freedom? Why can some do gooders backed by a pen pusher decide that a man cannot open his land to all to enjoy how they see fit, what the hell has it got to do with you? Health and Safety? planning permission? pfft! At least in places like Australia, Canada and the USA a man can go and drive his vehicle all over the countryside without fear of the Stasi arresting him, fining, imprisoning and destroying his property. The UK has become as nasty little country full of nasty little people who don't know how to mind their own business. No wonder people are leaving in droves

  14. Got the same problem with mine. Replaced all the slaves for quality ones. Replaced MC for genuine, replaced hoses for braided, replaced shoes, replaced all adjusters, pipes and removed the shuttle valve. Still a spongy pedal. Used the traditional brake bleed method, the vacuum method and syringe method - still a poor pedal. Checked the drums and theyre within tolerance and nicely round. Checked the backplates were firmly secured. I HATE! Series brakes, they're carp beyond imagination. I would love to know how Land Rover did it as they left the factory. /rant
  15. Travel ye forums. From my travels I've learnt MkII MR2, Fiat Uno and the rear bench out of a RRC fit. If that's any help
  16. Cheers Dave. I did know about the bell housing but thanks anyway. I'll try the S2 guys when I get home from work. Thanks for your reply Dave, it's much appreciated.
  17. That's interesting and would explain the lack of any ID at all. I was beginning to thing I had the first ever LR gearbox So what about the serial 600917? Werent all Suffix D boxes 600XXX?
  18. No, no serial anywhere on any face. Odd. So really this box is useless to me if its that old.
  19. Just gone over it with a fine tooth comb and can't see a serial number anywhere ion the box at all. Only thing stamped on it is 'F'
  20. The Gearbox in my 1980 109 has a filler cap on the top held in place by a springy steel thing. 95117637 B I just bought one off eblag for 99p (seriously), but it has a small metal plate/plug where my filler cap would be. The serial is on a plate on the bell housing and showing as a rebuilt unit. But the Bell housing is off a Series 2 as it has the opening at the side for the clutch. So is it a Suffix D? If so, what Suffix is the one fitted to my 109
  21. Mk1 MR2 seats are a good fit. They've got a very shallow base. They'd needs adapting of course
  22. The solution is simple. several toyed up Defenders with top of the range trackers as bait and some manpower. It's not rocket science. Need money for the Landies? - ask the council for some of the speed camera millions.
  23. My insurer (Lancaster) offered me agreed valuation. How do you get it certified?
  24. Good stuff. Thanks again guys
