  1. Thanks Sotal I'm not well versed in Disco's at all. You could show me a Saxo steering column and tell me it's off a Disco and I wouldn't doubt it lol! I was told it was a D2 box by a mechanic; should have known better than to listen to a mech. So does this make my job easier, harder or does Your (Fridge's) post still count? And I have the thread you posted about your conversion saved Fridge. Anything to do with this type of conversion I searched and saved. I really like your setup, looks very pro.
  2. Excellent info, that saves me a lot of trial and error for starters. Thanks Fridge! Can you confirm this is actually a D2 box? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=180275465675
  3. Thanks guys I'm obviously mixing everything up there lol I've got myself a D2 PS Box, Bottom linkage, Pump from a 300TDi. Just need a Defender column and resevoiur (never could spell that) Does all that sound compatible to your guys??
  4. I'm collecting the parts I'll need to put Power Steering on my S3. Do I need a Ram or damper? What are they for anyway?
  5. Is this it http://www.lrseries.com/shop/product/listi...hoke&page=1 Thats very similar to my ignition block mounted one (4 cyl)
  6. Took Debs idea and applied it to a my military 109. Bit more involved as it has a large oil cooler in front of the radiator which leaves just 3mm clearance between fan hub and grill. Aside from that the Omega fan fits perfectly as Debs said. Performance is excellent. And it's a Bosch and therefore better than a Kenlowe
  7. My wiring started to melt without relays
  8. I followed this guys diagrams and advice and was very happy with the result I bought Wipac headlights fro Paddock http://www.danielsternlighting.com/tech/relays/relays.html
  9. Why not use a two fuel solenoids each one connected to the fuel pipe from each tank and in turn connect to a switch. You could removed the brass switch all together then.

British and European steel is the best steel in the world. After WW2 British and European mills were all but destroyed. This put them in a unique position to modernise. The American steel industry have never been in a position where they've had to completely overhaul their steel industry. The other problem is cheap asian steel which is pretty poor even compared to US standards. China flooded the US market with steel which almost destroyed the industry. It was thanks to Bush putting up to 30% tariffs on foreign steel that gave US steel a lifeline. But those tarrifs almost started a major trade war with the EU. The EU threatened to strategiclly tariff products from States that were key to the Republicans. Faced with that threat the USA backed down and lifted the tariffs. But I digress...
  11. Get an electronic Lucas 45D4 ~£40 Duc dizzies are very robust but not a patch on the Lucas. The improvement is vast
  12. I did mine last year as several people said it was an easy straight-forward job. It very much isn't I ended up having to replace most of the brake lines and all the wheel cylinders. A classic case of one Landy job leading to another. So first of all make sure you have a reserve pot of money just in case. Angle Grinder with a few 1mm cutting disks Grinding disk to remove rivets from the door seals Welder Spot weld drill bit would have helped me in a big way. I had hell removing the panel where it meets the double corner
  13. Lancaster is good. And a damned site cheaper than Churchill
  14. If you've got a Ducellier, get rid. Finally got her going with an elecrtonic Lucas 45D4. Saaaweeet! such a vast improvement. Have to defend the Ducellier though. They get a hard time. Mine looks like it's been on there since it was with the Army (eggshell blue). The Duce has done well and can retire gracefully. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/LAND-ROVER-SERIES-EL...1QQcmdZViewItem
  15. Barton wins!! Thanks to Murphy's second law If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong The dog hadn't fell on the floor, it fell into the engine under the camshaft. It took a bit of a beating but thankfully nothing major, scratches only and the camshaft is fine. Many thanks guys!!
  16. Todd the dizzy is fully home. I've tried every angle and spun the rotor, it just wont click into the drive dog. Its live the dizzy dog wont reach the drive dog Barton: I checked that. And yes, the dogs are identical. So frustrating
  17. Fitting a Lucas as a replacement for my tired Deucellier distributor. I took the old one off, put the new one on and turned it over...no spark. Took cap off and the rotar arm spins freely. So took dizzy off and lined it up with the dog again, but no matter how much I try the dog on the dizzy wont engage the dog in the engine. I can line them up easily enough, just no engagement. So went back to square one and put the Ducellier back on and same again, the bloody dog wont engage the engine one!! I bet it's something simple but I cant see what! HELP!!
  18. All it says is it a 1962-1979, 109 petrol, 2 door crew cab. Havent you got a plate on the drivers side seat box with the long numbers?
  19. What are the odds? My S3 had the click of death when turning the key. No big deal, installed another solenoid and the car turned over no problems after that. Next day the starter motor packs in. Got totally ripped off by Landranger at £116 for a replacement. but I needed it badly. Pity as LR in L/Pool were selling them for £70 but he didnt have one in until Wednesday So I have a clapped out Lucas 2M100 here that needs a refurb. Anyone know any sparkies that will do it for me?
  20. Cheers Fridge, appreciate that. I do mostly road miles Jon
  21. Apparantly it came out of a H reg Rangie. My idea was to dump the BW and put a 230 on it?
  22. Thanks for the reply Fridge. I'm going to go your route then and get a 230. I bought a 77 but the damn thing came with the Borg tranny box...I dont suppose you can do anything with one of those? Thanks for the advise, its greatly appreciated. Just one Q though that I really need answering. Will the S3 bell fit straight onto the 77? Because I use my S3 constantly and rely on it getting me to work I need to do jobs like this in one go with as little hurdles as possible. Wouldn't be so bad if I could take it off road for a month :/
  23. Hi Guys. I've got an LT77 with its tranny box. Am I correct in thinking that the best way to get this into my S3 is to take the S3 tranny box, fit it to the LT77 using the Ashcroft adaptor then fit the S3 bellhousing straight on Put the whole thing in with a 4" prop spacer? If so.. 1: Does the Bell housing bolt to the 77 OK? 2: Can someone point me to this kit that Ashcroft do? Cheers
  24. Aye, Galvy BH is something I'd really go for.
