  1. The tyres supplied by Landrover (Grabber TR's) are carp, they are the worst tyre imaginable, rubbish off road, and rubbish on road. They are no way comparable to even the worst AT or MT tyres, they are much worse! BFG AT's are fantastic, and BFG MT's are even better - i had a set of 265/75 BFG MT's on my TD5 90, it got used for greenlanes and hard playing at the weekends, and my family/work vehicle in the week doing 20K+ on roads over a year. Never had a problem with muds, they didnt affect my economy or cause noise.

If it was my money i'd buy BFG Mud Terrains.

this happened last week in Argentina. They were blaming the tires

  2. I'm bringing this BTT as I am interested if anyone else has managed to talk their dealer into replacing the standard sump with the modified or if they, like mine, are still persisting in sticking their heads in the sand and denying that there is a potential problem.

Also, does anyone have a current firm price for the modified sump Pt. No LR007598?

A friend of mine told me there are two new Defenders back with holed sumps at the dealer and of course with dead engines!!!!!

  3. Hi,

This weekend I intend to change the springs & shocks on the 110, the reason being they have never been changed (to my knowledge) I get a fair bit of roll when cornering especially when loaded up with all the camping gear, the back have been done so I'm putting the roll down to the front springs!

What do you think about the condition of these:

I think they are worn? But to be honest I haven't got anything to compare them to!

    What do the experts think?

    Cheers Ted

Compared to mine (new and original) they look worn out. The upper coils don´t touch each other that much.

  4. Driving along this morning on a tar road, I had to turn at a junction at which point there was a scream of protest from the power steering pump, and a lot of fluid sprayed around at high pressure. One of the lines had developed a terminal leak.

The vehicle has only done 6,800km since I got it new in April, so it's a warranty job - could happen on any make of vehicle I suppose - shame that it was mine!

Good to know. I know a chap whose new 110" lost breake fluid through the pump!

  5. I would not actually call this car a sexy car but I read this somewhere. I am writing this more because I notice the look from other men when I go shopping. "A young guy in a defender?" they ask themselves.. " YEah I am a home made mechanic and do all at home.." I tell myself reassuringly...

The nissan guys look very angry :(

The Datsun guy .. he smiled.... Outmoded cars are also classified as old timers so I gave him a little smile...

The Subaru fellows ingnore turning to your direction

The Kia driver the other day kept his looks at my direction but had his glasses on and behaved like he was watching the seagulls up above :o

And the Tahoe driver showed a little smile.. faily accepted..

The BMW guy wasn't very happy.. I guess he changed his mind and drove off to another center to shop  ..

    Anyone been into this?? :rolleyes::P

No matter what, but I can not convince my wife to drive the 110"

  6. Hi guys, I have a new propshaft (part no:- FTC4198) wich I thought would fit my 110 200tdi with salisbury axle but unfortunately was to long, Doe's anyone know what landrover this should fit as I am now stuck with one and wish to sell on so I can buy the right one. Many thanks, Bill.

It is for 110" V8 petrol, 300 Tdi or Td5. Not for the 200Tdi.

  7. Now that the better weather lets me drive with the windows open, I have noticed a worrying rattle which appears to come from the passenger side of the vehicle whenever i drive over any uneven surface even on the tar. Sounds a bit like a loose exhaust. I have checked underneath the vehicle and can find no evidence of anything loose which could rattle. Took the vehicle to the garage to have it checked under warranty terms but they said they couldn't find anything either. Anyone else notice this or have any ideas, or am I just paranoid? On a similar note, if you'll excuse the pun, I also think the sound from the air intake on the drivers side sounds like a gasket has blown, but again the garage said that was normal. Can anyone else with this model confirm the same?

    Tom

    Tom:

About the rattle on uneven surface: when moving push the brake pedal a bit. If the noise stops then you have a problem on the brake pad retainers. The dealer should change the set pad.

  8. Today I tried the 255/85/16 using the original alloy 7" rim. Beside minor height increase the section is nearly if not the same as of the 235! They did not look at all like those from SteveG. These were mastercraft (cooper) mt tires.

  9. I was checking with the "dealer" the part numbers for the rear diff as I was thinking on setting an alternative one. The microcat showed ....: "unserviceable differential" and no details whatsoever. Same for rear prop shaft. The diff on the Puma is not the same as on the last Td5. Therefore Eaton is not recommending any diff for the Puma. I have not checked with ARB yet, but I´ll not bother.
