  1. Hi How did you get on? Was it the gasket? Pete
  2. Thanks guys. It seems that there is no straight forward way of doing this, I don't really want to lug around a transformer and iverter, guess I'll just get a 12V compressor. Cheers Peter
  3. Hi Does anybody know if it's possible to convert a 110V compressor to run on 12V? Is changing the motor the only way of doing it? Cheers Peter
  4. Been a while! How did you get on? I'm interested in how you plumbed in to the cooling system. Pics would be good if you have any Cheers Peter
  5. Papa B Just read through your report, how did you get on with testing the axle strength? Peter
  6. I can vouch for Lynalls manifold mod as mentioned above, how do I know? The said manifold has been on my car for about 4 years, no problems since...
  7. Dom Try putting some soapy water on the belt (liberally) and then rev the engine up as normal, if it's your belt this will help identify it as the squeal will stop for a short time. To change the belt you will need a viscous fan wrench set, these are available from places like difflock and the likes. A Haynes manual for the D2 will acurately describe the procedure and will come in usefull for other things as well. Make sure you buy the correct belt, with or without AC etc. Peter
  8. Hi Jason Been watching your thread for a while, nice write up, including a lot of useful info, well done. How did you get on with the LED lights? Any pics of the final product yet? Peter
  9. Does anyone know if there is a conversion for the Discovery 2? the rear brakes in particular as mine are shot, calipers and pads will need replacing, disks are ok but might consider changing them if there is an upgrade available here...
  10. FF Slightly un-related but I'm replacing the rear crank seal this weekend, should the release bearing and copper bush be lubricated with anything as I'm replacing them with new ones while I have everything stripped? Cheers Pete
  11. Just to let you guys know that for fitting RR, D3 wheels to a D2/ P38, the reducer rings are required. Had a good look at them today and the nuts are not the same as most common nuts i.e. tapered so that when nuts are tightened the wheel is located and centered, these nuts have a square edge to the tip rather than a taper and they are slightly smaller in diameter than the hole in the wheel, about 1.5mm smaller. SO, I think if you were to run these wheels without the rings, it could be disasterous as there would be no way of centering the wheel on the hub and the movement in the wheel would eventually loosen a/the nuts or even damage the wheel itself as it begins to move around on the nuts. Pics to follow Peter
  12. Will take some in the next few days, it's in off-road guise at the mo so the muds are back on
  13. Thanks for the replies, I should of mentioned that I wanted to fit them to a D2 Cipx2 - See links, I agree with you, I think these might just be a gimmick? Allegedly - Sorry to hear that, I knew these would fit, have seen them on other D2's. Freeagent - Yes that is well known, should of mentioned what vehicle they were being fitted to in my 1st post. The wheels are now fitted and as it turned out they already had these little reducer rings (alloy version) in them, Have just fitted them like that for the time being, when i refurb the wheels I will have a good look to see if they actually do anything, doubt it though. Thanks again http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Set-4-Spigot-Locatio...%3A1|240%3A1318 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SPIGOT-RINGS-locatio...%3A1|240%3A1318
  14. Hi Just bought myself a nice set of 18" RR (L322) alloy wheels. Got the wheel nuts as well, just wanted to know if it is neccessary to use those spigot rings people are selling on Ebay? I thought that the wheels were located onto the hub by the wheel nuts, am I wrong? I've seen lots of different types of wheels including steel wheels that don't fit "snuggley" over the hub and are just located by the nuts Any advice or experiences you've had would be appreciated. Cheers Pete
  15. Ok, I'm not making any sense. "notches" are like two metal "C" shaped gears that slot over each other, why the pump is driving something else in the engine I don't know? Les, do I pack in grease? Pete
  16. Hi Les Thank you, maybe notches is not the right word. The bits I'm on about the two bits that slot over each other when the pump is bolted on, there is one on the pump and a corresponding one in the block. You right, its very awkward, almost thinking of taking out the rad? Thanks again Pete
  17. Hi Just trying to fit a new pump but I'm struggling to get the thing in, is there a trick to it? Have lined up the notches but its hard to tell if they line up exactly. The original pump looked as if it had copper slip applied when first installed but its hard to tell if its copper or not. Should I apply copper slip? If yes, how much? This is on a 03 D2 TIA Pete
  18. Gents, what do you think of the ITG filters?
  19. Good point! I think this is probably going to be one of those stupid questions but, is it possible for the power steering pump to seize up? Just before I took the car out for a drive the steering (pump or box, not sure) was making a loud whining noise, when I came back I could smell something burning or at least "a" burning smell coming from the car, when I got underneath I noticed some fluid leaking from the pump vicinity which I think is PAS fluid, I didnt pay much attention at the time because I was so hacked off that the gearbox was still not right! I also noticed a bit of freying (SP) on my serpetine belt, cant say for sure that it happened that day but I have'nt noticed it before and give it a regular look over. Is it possible for a serpentine belt or PAS pump to be causing so much resistance that it will affect engine revs? Pete
  20. I think you can get alot more car nowadays for 4K, I would say look around, these things are so hard to shift now you almost cant give them away!
  21. Thanks Dave, will check that out too, didnt get round to working on the car today but will hopefully have a bit more time tomorrow. Pete
  22. Thanks Peter, will check it out tomorrow. Pete
  23. Ok, all trim and carpet is fine so dont think its that. Wingnut, could you please describe to me where this switch is, dont want to unplug the wrong thing Pete
