  1. 2x Avon Rangemasters on steel rims - for £15 the pair for a spare for my Disco. 200tdi air con compressor with bracket for air (vapour!) project. Now I need to find a twin-vee bottom pulley and the bit for the timing case to mount the tensioner on - any ideas anyone??? 4x 175A Anderson style connectors for jump lead project. Some 16 & 32A connectors and armoured flex for Red Cross power leads. A surge protector for when i eventually get around to sourcing a welder - again any ideas? Chris
  2. I have an excellent grinder from Makro - cost me £14.99, has chopped up loads of bits of Disco and works realy well with the wire brush too. Its a bit big sometimes - long handle is a pain sometimes, but otherwise its great having more control. I have had some cheap (VERY cheap) grinders in the past, but they were nowhere near as powerful, but they did last ok for lighter duty jobs - plenty of cool-down time requred. Toolstation have some on clearance at the moment for £6.00. Chris
  3. Greetings friends, I have two very separate issues: The first is: are the bolts holding the rear top shock mount on my 200tdi Disco special LR-only items, or can I use something more easily available, probably stainless? Second Question, totally non-LR: I have a small outboard motor with aluminium cast housing which has a stripped M6 thread in it. Is a helicoil-type insert the way forward? if so, I've never used one before - all info welcome! Many thanks Chris
  4. I put Britpart Springs on the back of my '93 Disco from Paddocks. At first they were great, but after 5000 miles, they are worse than the ones I removed, loads of body roll and a saggy rear end. The ones I used were ANR4491 Police spec HD rear springs for 90, Disco and RR. Ive now changed them out for Bearmach blue ones which so far are much better. Chris
  5. I had exactly the same problem on mine last year, it is almost certainly the flasher relay located on a bracket under the drivers side of the dashboard. I replaced mine with one from a scrappie and all is well again now. Chris '93 200tdi Disco
  6. This is exactly the kind of thing I am after! Does it have any kind of clutch, or does it run all the time? I guess you used a standard hand throttle to increase revs at full load? Chris
  7. Thanks for all the quick replies guys! For the intended use, the alternator needs to able to supply at least 3kw continuous, 4kw would be ideal. I did look into the inverter / large battery bank option, but I would need a generator or very large low-voltage engine-driven alternator to charge the batteries. Reliability of supply isn't so critical, any sensitive equipment has a UPS or battery backup with it anyway. Simplicity and minimal effort in setting it up on site is the most important thing, coupled with long run-time and no requirement to lift a large weight from the back of the vehicle when working alone. Please keep the advice coming! Chris
  8. Hi, I'm trying to research options for an engine driven (either belt/aircon mount or PTO) 240v alternator to fit a 200tdi 130 ambulance. It belongs to the Red Cross, and has just been converted from ambulance use into a logistics/support role, retaining the original ambulance body shape. We would like to be able to use it to supply 240v mains power, preferably as much current as possible, given cost / space constraints. Does anyone have any ideas about how to do this, suppliers of parts, where there might be an alternator lurking in a barn somewhere?! Thanks in advance for any thoughts! Chris Beresford British Red Cross Thames Valley Area (i also run a 200tdi Disco)
  9. Hi friends, Does anyone have any tips for making engine oil changes any easier / cleaner to do? Are the difflock drain plugs worthwhile, or an expensive gimmick? What oils do people use in their engines - specifically a '93 200tdi that's done 116k ish. I usually do fairly frequent changes (3000ish miles) as i'm running on a (strong) veg mix. Is it worth using a cleaning additive when changing the oil? I'm also going to do the axles and gearboxes for the first time too, any tips appreciated! Thanks Chris
  10. The interior is currently beige, but to be honest, i would probably take any colour, though a pair the same would be good! Thanks for your speedy response!
  11. Hi all, My '93 200tdi disco has a broken drivers seat. I have been looking for ages to replace it , but not found any. But i have seen some 300tdi seats for sale locally, but i don't know if they will fit, either by changing the whole seat mechnism from the floor up, or by just removing the seat from the top half of the fore-aft slider mechanism. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Many Thanks Chris 93 200tdi Disco Slough, UK
  12. Both the reversing light switch and the difflock indicator light switch can be disconnected from the rest of the circuit from the engine bay. Look on the bulkhead on the passenger side and you will see some large connectors with small wires which run down underneat the the gearbox tunnel. This makes it a lot easier than going underneath and using your double jointed wrists and elbows to disconnect at the switches whilst not being able to see what you're doing. Hope this helps Chris 200tdi Disco
