  1. Hi there, You defo have a drain on the battery! Whilst you have the meter out, and with the battery disconected. Turn the multimeter to the setting that you get an audible beep when you touch the probes together (cant rember what it is actually called!!) What you are checking now is continuity. Put the red probe on the back of the starter where the main supply bolts on, and the black probe to earth. Does it beep? if so the starte is knackered and draining the battery. Do the same with alternator and see what you get. You do not say whay engine you have but if it is petrol check the coil pack etc. Bear in mind though that it takes about a twenty minute drive to put enough into the battery from just starting it. putting the radio on etc wont help! Hope this does Cheers Neil
  2. Hi there, In my own Expierence, The two candle lights of a sealed beam are worth keeping. But fit some Proper lights up top, or a lamp pod, or an a bar. My reasons for this is that every time you go through some water, with a H4 conversion they fill up and with the heat of the bulbs they explode!! So i think that driving with two candles on the front is better than no lights on the front. Cheers Neil
  3. Pux, I was told that this place was in addition to Minety
  4. No, This one is suppose to be down the road (or so i was told) from Foxham
  5. Afternoon! I was chatting t someone the otherday about pay and play sites in wiltshire. They told me that a new site is going to open somewhere to near where Foxham is near chippenham. anyone heard about this? Cheers Neil
  6. In everyones honest opinon which one is best to have? I have a 300dti defender that has just sripped the halfshafts on the fornt, so looking to replace it. Cheers Neil
  7. Hi there, i would say that for that sort of money (in my opion!) you would be better off getting the britpart (yellow) polybush kit from paddocks. The quality is there and job done! However i only use my truck as a light offroader so really depends on your pocket and what your doing with it. Cheers Neil
  8. Afternoon, I have got a 200tdi conveted 90 on a c plate, of which im querying the size of the battery. can anyone tell me the size that a defender diesal battery should be? what amphr it should be? I have on there a 65 amphr one at the mo and finding it difficult starting when cold, is this why? I do also have another brand new 65 amphr one, can i put this in parralel to give it some boost? Many thanks Neil
  9. Have a play with the reverse switch plunger. It can vibrate out of adjustment and stop it going in
  10. thats what i meant, but you obviously havent got that problem!! remember that oil can track along joints, and that the sump is the lowest area. check the back of the engine, is it damp with oil? it may be the the rocker is leaking and running through what makes you sure its defo from the sump?
  11. hi there, ive fitted, along with some other items, a Cobra alarm system. I have found this to be invaluable at keeping the local pikies, i mean less afluent people at bay. I have also Accedently let it go off a few times at home and when im out and about, so if anyone is watching me pull up, they will know it has an alarm I am also just about to black out all the rear windows so those said less afluent types cannot see all my offroading gear and tools! cheers Neil
  12. Hi there, Is any oil draining out throught the bel housing drain plug? It may be the rar crank case oil seal. As to whether it is a big job, it would mean engine gearbox split flywheel off. cheers Neil
  13. gents, Some more info!! I had all four wheels on the deck with the hand brake on, and i must of had just over a quarter of a turn on the front prop. The ujs look good and the extra play is certainly coming from inside the diff. What is likely to wear first, the diff or the half shafts? Cheers Neil
  14. Hi there.... again! I have noticed a knocking when changing gear, so i duly dived underneath to look at the transmission. I noticed that whilst the rear prop cannot be turned (with all wheels on the ground) the front can be twisted an amount. My suspicions are the the diff is on the way out, or is it? Before idive in with another diff is it more likely to be half shalfs? What action is best? Cheers Neil
  15. Afternoon! When i took mine for the MOT test, he didn't put in on the rollers but instead tested the parking brake by using his hands either side of the drum! As this point it is only fair not too name names, as i am more than happy with the methods used!!! Obivoulsly he couldn't turn the drum so that was a pass. With reference to the brakes he took the vehicle out for a drive and used a delerometer and cross ref'ed with the book on his return. This showed that they were fine and another pass! With ref to the origanal post, i believe the legal limit is 7 so your results are well inside. Neil
  16. Sorry gents i forgot to mention its on a 300tdi in a 94 plate 90 For 18 of my great british pounds, i wil get a blanking plate, and a new hose with fittings. cheers Neil
  17. ladies and gents, Quick question for you, EGR valve removal. is it worth it? its about £18 of eBlag. How much power and fuel consumption is it likley to give me? Cheers Neil
  18. Thanks for that! better get cutting some wires!! Love it... i thought thats what it meant, just sounds better when someone else states the obvious for me!!! Amazing, i can swap engines till the cows come home but the hazard switch, forget it!!! Cheers Neil
  19. Afternoon all!! just trying to wire in a alarm to my 300 tdi defender and got as far as the two wires that i need to solder into for both sides of the indicators. On the RAVE software these are labelled as both being green with one with a red stripe the other being white. It shows switch hazard warning (S121) on the diagram, where is this on the vehicle? Also i need to add a wire to the back of the ignition, the one that is live 'when the vehicle is crancking over. This is for the imobilisor, which wire is this, is it the white one with the red strip? Many thanks in advance guys!!! Neil
  20. I have a 94 registered 300 TDI defender Station Wagon. I have noticed that i am getting a lot of turbo lag, and reduced speed when going up hills etc. I am however comparing it to my last 90 with a 200 TDI coversion in. but it does seems a lot slower. Any ideas guys? i am running on 235/85/16's so how much of a difference would this make? cheers Neil
  21. I have noticed the poewer steering box on my 300tdi leaking. Has anyone got a diagram to show how i can strip this unit down to replace the seals? also what sort of time/ tools should i allow to do the job? Cheers Neil
  22. Gents, I have a L reg 300tdi station wagon. just been offroading tonight on thw way home and noticed the power steering box making a horible squeel! Should i be worried? if so why? cheers Neil
  23. Gents, It appears that i should be worring about other things and not the size of my tyres! Thanks for your reassurance and nice motor BM52 Cheers Neil
