  1. My switches have 5 terminals and I have only used 3 to get them working so far. I do think its more by luck I have them working and all the wiring could be wrong, do you know which terminal should ger which feed and should some be linked together.
  2. I bought some carling type rocker switches from Bolt on Bits, They are simple on off switches. I have got they working fine and the orange light illuminates as it should. What I can't get to work is the yellow light with the ignition. Does anyone have a simple wiring diagram for these, as I am pulling my hair out.
  3. Not sure if all V8's are the same a quick google brought this up. http://www.brookwell.co.uk/products/DISCOVERY_1/all/V8/Fuel_and_Air/Fuel_Pressure_Regulator/Fuel_Pressure_Regulator
  4. Good spot, i'm a member of the Yorkshire group and have copied the link onto the forum,
  5. I have a closer look at my engine in the morning while its light, but from memory the alterator is in the same position as it is in The bottom picture.
  6. While away on holiday in my E Reg 110, over Christmas I had the alternator belt snap (Fixed by the nice AA man) I have decided I should carry a spare. After a quick Google I am unsure which belt I actually need as I am unsure if I have a defender 200tdi or a disco 200tdi. Is there an easy way to tell between the two. So I can order the right parts.
  7. As your 110 is a 4.6 with a big lift & 35" tyres. (copied from your first post) I'll have a couple of guesses depending on driving style. 200 miles if, you drive like a girl. or 70 miles if drive it like you stole it.
  8. So I got my indicators to work, turned out the hazzard switch was at fault, that and a dodgy fuse (really need to change the fuse boards to take the blade type fuse at some point) I still can't get the main beam to flash when I pull the stalk towards me, All the rest of the lights work inc main beam, it just won't flash at all. Looks like I might need to change the stalk in the end anyway I really hopped I could get away from it as I couldn't move the streering wheel when I tried at the weekend. Or could something else be wrong.
  9. All the wiring looks okay, I'll order a new stalk and try to fit it this week. Do I need to remove the steering wheel first to get the stalk out.
  10. Thanks, I'll have a look over the weekend in daylight.
  11. Over the weekend I lost the indicators on my 200tdi 110. I have hazzards but the indicators don't work. At the same time I also lost the use of the main beam flash, pulling the stalk backwards, if I push the stalk forwards I have full beam and all the other lights work. I am thinking that the stalk is dead, just need a bit of confirmation before I order a new one.
  12. Thanks for the help, looks like i'll be back under the car at the weekend. hope it's a quick and simple fix. Also a cheap one, buying a starter that is not at fault has put me right in the bad books with the Mrs. I know I should have tested it first, feel rather stupid now.
  13. Just changed the starter motor, that's to the helpful tech pages. Only problem is that there is no change in the car. Turn the key and nothing happens. If the auto box is not in park or neutral then the car would act similar when it was starting, how would I test the inhibitor switch. Getting Feb up with the car at the moment.
  14. Quick check last night, I can hear the relay clicking in the passenger footwell, when the key is turned so I'm guessing that the relay is okay.
  15. um, thought I had added which engine the car had, in my first post. Its a D1 300tdi Auto. Also updated my location
  16. Sorry to sound thick, but how do I test the starter by using a set of jump leads
  17. Mrs took the disco out last night, no problem starting the car at home and drove to her meeting with no problem, just a small smell of melted plastic. When she tried to start the car again to come home, nothing, the car did not even attempt to fire. I was at home with the children so could not go too her. A quick call to the AA and she was delivered safe to home 4hrs later. Now the AA man says that the starter motor relay has burt out as well as the wiring to the starter motor and more than likely that has also gone. Knowing how little checks the Mrs said he did, is this possible. I can't afford to waste money buying a new starter motor if its not dead. Is there any way to test each part? where is the replay in the car can I just replace that and see what happens. I'm useless with wiring but money is tight at the moment. and can't afford for a garage to look at it.
  18. I am trying to put a whole new socket on the car as it has nothing at the moment. The 5 plain wires I found come up in the rear corner through a grommet these are all together in a neat little wrapping. The wiring on my car is a right mess as is seems to have been used by the police in the early stages of its life so has loads of extra wires kicking around. I'll have a detailed look over the weekend, but electrics is really not my strong point.
  19. So should I am able to use these, wires as part of the trailer socket wiring. White, green, yellow, red brown and pick up the rest, from the other lights, as I would just need the black been the LH side light and blue been the fog light.
  20. Okay thanks, that explains the 2nd set as I don't have a rear window. So wiring is surplus now.
  21. I am looking to install a 7 pin trailer socket in my e reg 110. I have got myself confused over the wiring, which seems to be in a real mess. I have found a set of 5 wires coming through a grommet in the back. White, green, yellow, red brown There is also a second set of 5 which seem to be separated from the rest, Green, red with green trace, brown with red trace White with black trace Black Struggling to work out what these wires are for and can any be used to wiring in my tow electrics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  22. Going to do all the prep and painting while they are on the car. Eventually the car will be getting a whole new paint job so this is really a short term solution. Just something to tidy it up at the moment
  23. I have a white 110 with a lot of checker plate on it which is not painted. I am thinking of painting the checker plate a dark color as a contrast. I have been looking around but can't find any examples to look at apart from one where the checker plate is black. I can't decide between Blue, red or green for the checker plate Has anyone seen a car with this done before or any pictures I can use as a reference. I know it won't be to everyone's liking but I like the white body i', just looking for a little contrast.
  24. The newer cars and a lot faster, safer and a nicer place to be on a long trip. Not sure I would want to go to Cornwall in my 110 but the Freelander 2 made it easy. That said I have just traded in the Freelander as it was 3 years old and didn't fancy running it outside a main warranty, It had alredy had a few thousands spent on repairs covered by the warranty as it was. I just can't see any of the new cars, anything from the Disco 3 on wards still been around in 10 years from now, The cars are just too complicated to repair by your average man.
  25. Too far south for me, there is one up north near Skipton on the 20th April that I am planning on going to.
