200 Tdi Chassis replacement

Recommended Posts

I have ordered a new chassis for my 90 200 Tdi from Richards in preparation for a complete refurbishment. My question is about Chassis numbers, the original chassis has a chassis number stamped on it and recorded on the V5. Do I stamp this/get Richards to stamp this on the new chassis, or does the Richards Chassis come with its own Chassis number? Or do I need to find some method of recording it and attaching it to the vehicle (small plate for example).

Presumably if the Chassis number changes I need to inform the DVLA?

Any advice gratefully received

Mark

When I got my 110's new galv Marsland chassis they wouldn't stamp it, Can't blame them, I suspect Richards won't either, I haven't bothered stamping it, but do have photo proof of the old chassis cut up & scrapped & the original section with the VIN on it, if there are any problems. VOSA or whatever they are called now are not bothered, provided the owner has proof the new chassis is exactly that, not a rebuilt 2nd hand chassis & the appropriate papers, if you contact DVLA they will issue you a brand new VIN starting SAB**************, it's just DVLA doing their own thing.

there are no VIN numbers on any brand new chassis. be it galvanised from Richards or Marsland or new from LR.

I'd suggest you get the VIN number stamped into the chassis if you'd consider going to the Continent - it is about the 1st thing they look for when checking out a vehicle. For export order, both companies mentioned have an option to get the VIN # stamped into the chassis before shipping.

But this is the Continent - UK is very different.
