cosmobuller
I was gifted this old external cage from a friend who had planned on using it himself, he said the cage was one of the first made for 5 door 110’s, it’s fully external and doesn’t enter the body at all like most cages. I’m planning to make some box section rock sliders, was really just interested to ask if anyone has seen a cage alike this or has any idea how it could be fitted at the rear cross member. Many thanks Cosmo
Popular Post FridgeFreezer
Fully external with no interior bracing / hoop means it's nowhere near as strong as a "proper" cage with a cross-braced rear hoop & stays - this will give you some protection from scraping the roof along trees and help keep you in one piece / reduce damage if you roll it slowly but it's not going to do much for you in a bigger crash or roll. For comparison, this is what Dan describes as the "roof rack" portion of my cage : But there is then a full cross-braced hoop with rear stays mounted in the rear and braced through the roof to the external tubes: Show here under construction with no stays fitted yet. Here's the extended rear outriggers where the cage meets the chassis, might give you some ideas for the back of yours: Dan made some chunky sliders and beefed up outriggers too, looks like yours would meet up nicely with something like this: Rear outrigger: Front bulkhead outrigger: 4
Escape
I had a full external cage on my 90. IIRC the rear mounted on inserts bolted to the rear crossmember, front and mid to the rocksliders. There was an internal cross-brace as well, absolutely necessary to give some strength.
FridgeFreezer
Can't really see it but this shows the rear hoop with stays & bracing through to the "roof rack", some idiot put a spare 37 in the way...
