ianmayco68
Hi all , hope everyone's well been a while since my last post . I rebuilt a transfer box a while ago for my project and I seem to have a problem , whenย difflock is engaged it works fine , its a little stiff but easily turnable with your hand which I put down to new parts but when you dis-engage difflock the output flanges turn easily but the gearing doesn't move . I've had it back apart several times and can't see any issue , although there is one . I can see the diff centre gears turning inside freely but the movement doesn't transfer to the internal gearing . The hi- lo selector is moving and engaging and when you move the gears by hand the output flanges move . It all goes together okay you don't need to force anything . There's something in there that's not in right or working correctly but I can't see it , I did think that one of the bearing preloads was wrong but thought that would just make it stiff , any help would be much appreciated . Cheers Ian
steve b
With the diff lock disengaged you will need to hold one flange stationary and turn the other to confirm the selector is working and the gear train all turns Steve
ianmayco68
Cheers Steve , I'll try that but think I have and the gears don't .
ianmayco68
I stand corrected , hold one and the internal gears turn when other one turned by hand .ย cheers Ian
steve b
Glad it's all ok Steve
ianmayco68
So @steve bย I'm guessing from that reply that I don't have a problem andย the box is good ? I was going off another box I have , on that one with diff lock dis-engaged as soon as you turn one of the output flanges the other turns and so do the internal gears . cheers Ian
steve b
The other box probably has a stuck diff lock dog if it drives the gear train disengaged.ย The one you built looks to be ok from your description Steve
ianmayco68
Glad I asked , thank you just saved me a lot of work for nothing . cheers Ian
steve b
I'm pretty sure if you have rebuilt it then all will be well, it certainly engages ok from your description. They are fairly simple in function Steve
ianmayco68
And me apparently ๐๐๐๐ never gave a thought that the other box wasnโt working correctly.
Escape
It could be the old one is just a bit stiff in different places. More resistance on the output flanges and less on the internals compared to the new box could be enough to have the internal gears turn even with diff lock disengaged.
