samdb
Can anyone help me to open the bonnet? I have so far removed the grill expecting to find easy access to the cable, but admit that when I got there, it did not look as easy as I thought... If anyone has info please advise.. Mr Bean
Can you not reach the cable any where? You only need a bit to grip with some pliers.
Eightpot
If you pull the bonnet release handle, you should be able to pull all the inner wire out leaving just the outer cable sheath. If you suck really hard on the end, you should eventually make your 90 pop it's bonnet. Or just unscrew the grill and lever the bonnet catch back with a screwdriver or grab whats left of the cable with pliers and tug it across. western
as above, grille off & as you look at the vehicle just to the left [your left] you should find the release lever that the cable pulls on, move that to the drivers side of the vehicle & bonnet should pop up to the safety catch. If anyone has info please advise.. tuning in from Australia so with time zone difference was great to get feedback this am... thanks ..note that the defender is right hand drive... I am not sure that this make such a big difference with the cable will try to remove the sheath at the cable release handle where it snapped in the first place, hope that some cable is still there.. otherwise I will remove grill again and hunt for some cable, did notice a lever... but this barely budged, was very loose and there was no way of seeing beyond it... note that the lever could only be pulled towards passenger side... samdb
mmm...had to make an incision into the black outer sheath to access the cable at the cable release handle, as there was no sight of any cable behind that grill, and that lever I could see, I gathered was the lever latch. Anyway....with a big yank, the bonnet released... so now we were able to check the power steering box, which has a leak... another job awaiting, a reco to get done here in Melbourne is around AUD$1200+. As for the new cable, [now ordered and hoing it is the right one] I hope that it is not a big deal to thread through, as I must say, the incision may now cause us a hiccup..... what do you think?... is replacing the release bonnet cable a dig deal? No info in our manual... thanks all for your advice... cheers susie
