g90
My defender gives out a good blast of black smoke on start up, and i was wanting to check, and possibly adjust the injection timing. How is it done? I have done a search but couldnt find anything
western
Normal at start up & right after, all 200 & 300Tdi's do it to some extent, if it doesn't clear quickly then something is no right. have a look in the tech archive index.
muzaz
probably its not injection timing which is wrong, but the pump setting, there are quite a few threads on the subject, and some experts on this forum...unfortunately i'm not one of them
Ex Member
Sounds normal. The timing is set via a pin into the injection pump through an access hole in the timing cover and another pin in the flywheel through the drain hole. You "can" use drill bits or get the proper timing pins. Best to read the workshop manual.....
