Guest MJG
On BBC 6 o' clock news tonight. Greenpeace inundated today by supporters who pay by Direct Debit who have 100 yes that's 100 times the normal amount debited from their bank accounts. Of course guess what caused it - yes you've guessed it a computer error!!!!! UPDATE - on the BBC news web site here- http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4567944.stm

Steve King
Of course guess what caused it - yes you've guessed it a computer error!!!!! I suppose some programmer is gonna get it in the neck. I guess that Greenpeace have had DD in place for a while which makes me wonder what they were changing and why. It just goes to show the importance of running a test or two before going live! Even if they were pushed for time and ran the DD routine without testing it, the output file can be viewed before sending it off to the bank. Errors like demanding 100 times more than usual should be fairly obvious!
minivin
sounds like they left out the decimal point
western
sounds like they left out the decimal point on last nights 10 o;clock news, they said for some unknown reason the decimal point was moved 2 places to the left, so someone DD'ing £5 per month had 500 taken instead but they're going to pay it all back plus any bank charges involved
